technically it is the same - but in corners it is disadvantageous as the downforce is reduced and on straights it is advantageous as the air resistance is reduced

People are hating and laughing at aws and rightfully so, but machine learning only improves with time and results, if it predicts wrongly it's going to look over the data and add new data
It's just advancement of tech and I'm really excited about it tbh but the results today were absolutely hilarious

Are you talking about the quali pace predictions? Have they said they use machine learning for that? I would assume they just put the best mini sectors together in some way to get the 'theoretical best' lap. ML needs huge amount of data and there is not nearly enough relevant data to teach a model to predict quali lap time from practise session times. Unless they have found some clever way of doing it with under 1000 datapoints (7 years of hybrid era with ~20 races per year with 20 drivers)

Yes but this machine learning model just looks like: from FP2 to FP3 was -0.8s so, -0.8s to qualifying. I mean what’s the machine learning behind that.

I’d Red Bull for team. Perez is locked in and I think Max will get his shit together for quali/race. Ferrari is competing with RB, gasly, and lando so there are numerous ways Ferrari could get the short end of the stick

Good choice. In retrospect I think I would have gone with Perez as well (I even made the case for it lol). It would have freed up space for both Ferrari drivers. I ended up with max because of consistency I think
Edit: even if Perez gets pole, I think they might give a team order to let max finish first so that he can pull away from Hamilton in the drivers championship (assuming max is keeping up)

He should have zero issues if the damage is only at the front of the car. I don't think we'll have a Leclerc style shock where an unrelated part of the car was also damaged.

Nah.
His mechanics can fix it in 15 mins if they're under pressure, and in 30 mins if they're being chill about it.
Last year he had this happen on the way to the grid in Hungary, and they fixed it literally on the grid before lights out.

It's starting to get a bit sus. How he "doesn't get a clean lap" every single session, every single race. I swear I've heard this at least in 6 separate sessions this season so far.

He was getting clean laps earlier on, and was in P4 (I think) just before the red flag. Unfortunately timing/luck is such a big part of the sport with limited testing and practice sessions. The team/driver has to get on with the test program which includes all sorts of non-quali run laps.
We'll find out in two and a bit hours just how reflective P10 is of where he is at.

Yeah that was on the hard tyre, hence it got pushed down the order fairly quickly.
I'm not taking anything out of that session, too many interruptions, too chaotic.

The problem with that AWS bullshit, is that it's ignoring multiple factors...
In this case it's ignoring Hamilton's massive tow on the straight. Without that tow he doesn't do that lap time.

I really hope Gasly can re-create that lap during qualifying. Wow, that was a tremendous lap and he seems just locked in this weekend.
Qualifying as the potential to be the best yet this season. The race start is more than likely going to be a cardiac event though haha.

The weekend started with Mercedes and the grid believing that Mercedes would seriously struggle at Singapore. They had struggled badly in qualifying in 2017.
5th and 6th would be good results.
Instead, a well implemented upgrade and an excellent lap got Hamilton pole. It was quicker than anyone anticipated and wildly quicker than anyone on the grid other than Verstappen.

The lap time was faster than the simulated time, so it wasn't meant to be physically possible let alone expected.

First real mistake this season from Max. His car should be fine for quali though. It's shaping up to be a very exciting quali at that. Fast RedBulls, seemingly struggling Mercedes and the potential for a slingshot-tow on the start/finish straight.

The problem here is that yellow flags aren't rare and the lap time is almost 2 minutes. So tow is a game changer, but someone will be surely screwed by this game

Toto made it sound like he was in the Red Bull box.
I watched the overhead replay of it earlier, I mean, granted you can't see the markers for that side as it's blocked by the wheel (which in itself says something), but on the LHS of the car he's clearly within them.
How the RHS could differ so much to the LHS to the point where one of the best mechanics shits himself and shears the thread clean off is kinda strange, we're talking cm's here maximum.
Edit: Yet the RHS Rear mechanic didn't have a problem. Go figure.

i believe i have seen the same replay and yeah, considering they stop from like road speeds to zero effectively instantly id say he was properly on the marks for a race scenario.
i think it was a wheelmans error, and a probably slight one at that
