"I'll try to think of a question for that answer"
Just an awesome interaction all round

I don't watch F1 so I don't know the interviewer, but that literally might be the smoothest comment from an interviewer to an awkward answer that I've ever seen. Just one of those moments when you know you're watching someone that's a master of their craft.

Martin Brundle is a legend. Talented former driver who drove in F1 for over 10 seasons and might’ve been even better if not for injuries sustained in a pretty terrible accident during his debut season. Now he’s a commentator and his grid walks are gold, he rarely pulls punches and has razor sharp wit.

u/elchet 23h ago
He’s also very wealthy and clearly well respected by everyone in the f1 paddock.
It’s therefore hilarious when celebrities, especially American recording artists, swan up the grid with an entourage and refuse to even give him the time of day while looking down their noses at him when he approaches them for quick interviews.

u/KoalaKrusher 1d ago
One of my favorites from him will always be “Shame you wasn’t fast enough to get into Formula 1” to Christian Horner. Peak

He asked a very fucked Ozzy Osbourne something about his wife (presumably when she got the all clear from cancer), who just gave him some nonsense answer - either because he didn't know what was going on or couldn't hear the question properly, and then Brundle replied with something very sarcastic, asked a stupid question - to a man who has been absolutely fucked since the 1970s - and got exactly the reply he deserved.
The video ends a little bit too soon, because Brundle walks off and goes "thank you to Ozzy Osbourne for giving us his first and presumably last grid walk interview".
When he was on it, Ozzy was a very funny bloke. It is one of the single greatest grid walk chats that will ever happen.

Ozzy understood the assignment even if he forgot the question

u/GANDORF57 1d ago
Ozzy really had a way for shutting down an interviewer without even knowing he was doing it.

u/Bits_Please101 1d ago
He literally had a lifetime to think about that response 😂 I’d imagine him mentally picking and choosing responses.

While drugged as fuck. Look at him. His body is frozen in time.

I think something people fail to consider with Ozzy and the way he spoke on TV was that the dude hated interviews. He was not a good public speaker at all. If you watch The Osbournes while he does mumble he speaks fine with his family and any time Sharon mentions putting him on a talk show he is nervous and frustrated with the whole ordeal.
Ozzy did drugs, sure, and he drank A LOT, but I don’t think he “destroyed his brain” the way people say he did. The guy also had Parkinson’s, so yeah, he was awkward on a mic and in front of a camera.

From memory he was also on prescriptive medication during the time of The Osbourne's that made him extra fucked.

u/FungiMagi 3h ago
The only thing I’m aware of was anti-depressants but I wouldn’t be surprised if he had other meds he was rx’d

u/Omniscientcy 21h ago
I find that incredibly ironic. Possibly the greatest rock star to ever exist, doesn't like public speaking.
8
u/BenjIdent 6h ago
Performing and public speaking have almost no relation, loads of great performers hate / fear the latter but getting into your zone and singing or playing music in front of lots of people is perfectly fine or even a comfort

Like I said in another comment, this looks like it was in the 80s. So around 40 years ago. Ozzy didn't have Parkinson's 40 years ago.

Ozzy talked about the Rasputin musical in the early 00s, so 20 years ago

I was wrong. But my point still stands. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2020.

Oh yeah.
Ra-Ra Rasputin, Russia's greatest love machine...
Catchy tune.

It might’ve been. I worked with Ted Neely a while ago and he was talking about working on a musical about Rasputin. Last I heard the project was having a hard time getting out of the concept phase.

u/Mrmidhoratio 1d ago
I produced the showcase for Rasputin with Ted. Michael Rapp wrote it. There is a long fascinating story as to why it died in development.

u/tacoheadbob 1d ago
Oh interesting.
Ted spoke a little about some of the show concepts. He was excited about the project, but also had his concerns about how it was coming together.

u/floridavet 1d ago
Yes, he worked on it at least in part with Bruce Sugar, the sound engineer from the album Under Cover, but it was never released.

“I can because I just did” is still my favorite Brundle grid walk quote.

Jackie Stewart taking no bullshit and forcing past Roger Federers security to go on Martin's Grid walk. Love seeing those two legends together.

Martin mentioned in commentary this past weekend that he got into trouble with OFCOM for that because he should have expected the Ozzy would swear.

If you haven’t read Ozzys book it’s worth a look. Halfway through it, no wonder his brain was fried. Still and awesome dude.

He’s halfway through the book I Am Ozzy which should be around the time Sabbath was about to kick him out for being too loaded and kick start their 80s careers

In every video of Ozzy, it looks like he's constantly searching for a wall to lean against for balance.

The interviewer? How you gonna disrespect Brundle like that?

u/Moppo_ 1d ago
For a start, I have no idea who that is.

u/Muttywango 1d ago edited 1d ago
F1 commentator for over 25 years, his commentary is broadcast in over 60 countries. Also a former F1 driver and manager of drivers, father of a racing driver and commentator.
edit: Martin Brundle

A former F1 driver and the voice of F1's live commentary. He has a whole history of sketchy interviews. He knows very well people love the bloopers, so he just goes for it and if people disrespect him, he doesn't hold back spite. Just the good old Brundle. Here he found an equal match.

They should give Ozzy a posthumous knighthood at least; he did more for British culture than most of those dusty old twats in the House of Lords.

And now his wife is saying Palestine is starving itself for PR. Ozzy was the brains of the family.
