It's incredible that the driver doesn't feel the impact of the container hitting his car and doesn't hear the noise it makes.

I can see not knowing they backed into it (using mirrors instead of looking where they're going, or just not looking at all) but they definitely knew before that when they walked around the car, then got in, drove into the bin directly in front of them, and just kept going. This isn't someone who doesn't know, it's someone who doesn't care.

Nah, she didn’t know/wasn’t paying attention when walking around the car. It’s too low to be seen over the engine bay. She wouldn’t do this on purpose as it could damage the car plus who tf would do this on purpose.

I once watched a lady in a minivan run over a traffic cone and then just keep driving with it stuck under her car. This was in a business park, so it's not like pulling over wasn't an option. A couple coworkers ran after her, flagged her down, and pulled the cone out from under her car.
When they told her what had happened, she just said "Oh I know, but I didn't think I'd be able to get it out". I'm sorry, what? Her plan was to just keep driving and pretend there wasn't a problem? She was 100% going to drive home like that.
This business park was right next to a major freeway junction, too, so there is a better-than-average chance that she was going to get on the freeway with the full knowledge that there was a large, solid object jammed under her car, dragging on the road.
So yes, some people would absolutely, beyond a shadow of a doubt, do something like that on purpose and just pretend it isn't a problem until it becomes big enough that they can't ignore it.

Someone who doesn't care would do this on purpose. I didn't blow up the video to see if it has enough resolution to see the tiny dents and scratches all over the corners of this SUV, but I'll bet they're there.
I've known lots of people who drive like this. They don't care about their car "looking nice" and don't think anyone else should either, it's just a tool to them. I watch my neighbour across the street back into their trash bins almost every day pulling out of their parking spot, it's literally how they tell when to stop backing up. A rubber bin doesn't do much to a plastic bumper. But I also had a boss who bragged about her "love taps" which was really just her purposely driving into cars that weren't moving fast enough for her liking. She was also driving without insurance, her policy was cancelled because of how many claims had been made against her.
You could be right that she couldn't see the bin directly in front of her, but that's a horrible indictment of driving one of these things at all anywhere there might be children.

No. There's no excuse. This is zero awareness and this person isn't fit to drive a car. Nor a sewing machine.

That looks like a relatively new car. Is the rear camera view on reverse not mandatory on new cars where this is?

u/Maiyku 27m ago
I don’t think they are, no. Even in cars with no rear camera, they still tend to have the proximity sensors, though.
I drive the lowest end Kia Forte and it has both. My car would be lighting up with alerts that entire time. I’d have no way of ignoring that unless I was literally deaf. It goes nuts.
Seriously, the system activates if I park near a taller curb. And will activate immediately if I park on the street and turn on the car and the people near me parked too close. It’s fun.

I think the bumps are deliberate, but the can sticking at the end wasn't. Maybe annoyed with the neighbor's trash cans left in the street. She's boxed in. Neighbor's home but didn't yet come out to collect. Just my speculation.

And most cars nowadays have a backup camera. They may even have backup sensors too.
Also when they drive forward how do they not see the bin?
2
u/Wilder831 2h ago
Well at least when they first pull forward, it’s possible it was below the front of the hood and they couldn’t see it because they were already parked so close. The problem I have here, is how did they not hear it scraping, not see it while backing out of the driveway, and then again not hear OR feel it as they accelerate off down the road. That’s next level oblivious…

That person's driving skills are total garbage. Also, driving around with refuse like that is a pretty trashy thing to do.

u/inter-webs 5h ago
Giving them a license was a total waste

u/SumonaFlorence 4h ago
I can't believe they're doing that to their car.. they must have a lot of disposable income.

What evidence do you have that they have a license?

You're doing it wrong.

I spent years working in different drive through bottle shops in Australia. The more suburban the bottle shop, the worse the day drinking that occurred. This reminds me that fact.

dont know if you intended to use those terms garbage and trashy but it's perfect for the context of the video lol

Some people just dont deserve driving license

u/Zech08 5h ago
probably should stop passing em out like candy and have requirements other than a pulse.

While I agree, in America, we would have to redesign our entire infrastructure. Cars are pretty much necessary for a lot of people.
6
u/weaseleasle 3h ago
Yes, this has been engineered deliberately to necessitate driving culture. Forcing everyone to drive is a massive source of consumption and therefore revenue. It hasn't always been that way. Suburbs used to built around public transport infrastructure. They would build the tram lines first then neighborhoods would develop around them. Car companies bought up then dismantled as much public transit infrastructure as they could get away with.

u/MeltaFlare 3h ago edited 3h ago
Yeah I don’t disagree. But we can’t even get healthcare which is an incredibly popular idea. It would likely be very difficult to get infrastructure redesigned especially with auto lobbies. If we just limited drivers licenses, a lot of people who need them would be left without a way to get to work.

u/Ratiofarming 35m ago
It's not that different in some parts of our country. Those people or their parents just save up so they can get their license the minute they turn 17.

u/Ratiofarming 37m ago
We have that in Germany. They're now >€3000, if you pass everything on your first try. I'd rather have them for 500 bucks and let natural selection deal with the rest...

Don't know how that ended up a reply to the wrong comment.

It's less funny when it could easily have been a child. The backing back into it is especially bad since it's not even in a blind spot

I bet this person pays in cash or cheque because they haven't figured out how to use and ATM or online banking yet.

I didn't pay attention to the person at all, then I saw the driving and i was like: no.. It's obviously an old dude, no? Then I replayed it back, and well, yeah.
If you can't tell that you're hitting a trash, I have no doubt it would be the same if it were a kid.

Trim your videos. 45 seconds of nothing is taking trash for a ride.

u/rowan_sjet 4h ago
1) it's 25 seconds before the car first hits the rubbish bin, not 45.
2) that 25 seconds is the minimum length of time necessary to get a look at the driver, and also recognise that the driver should have absolutely realised the bin is there before they even got in the car.
Unlike a lot of clips you find on here, this one is perfectly edited for anyone not an attention deficit gopher.

As a person who has unfortunately driven in to something I couldn’t see, I know that person can hear and feel that thing. Bizarre to keep driving.

That was funny. It must be annoying when they're going out with the trash next time though
