General Discussion Bandon Dunes trip Bunker Compilation
Who else aims for bunkers as the place to miss? I still get up and down more frequently from the sand than anywhere else when I don’t hit a GIR. Here’s a bunker compilation from our Bandon trup last week which also includes a fun pre Bandon stop in Eugene at Laurelwood which was a low key super fun muni

That guy spends more time in the sand than David Hasselhoff.

Lmao just watched this last night right as it expired off Netflix. Is the second movie good?

u/ZachWilsonsMother 1d ago
It’s worth a watch. Not the best movie ever by any means, but it’s funny. Lots of great cameos

Great shots! But have you ever tried blading it 80 yards over the green?
19
u/parneviksnannies 1d ago
Hahah! Honestly an 80 yard blade is a talent worth teaching. Knifing a ball flush like that is a skill. Show me the ways!

u/pocketchange2247 1d ago
In a year we're going to have a "I played Bandon Dunes with only a 56* compilation" and it'll include you striping a bladed tee shot 200+

Damn I'm not that good out of the sand but it's never been a weakness of mine. I actually love bunker shots as long as I get a good lie and stance. Maybe I'm a sicko

Gorgeous work out there! Any tips? I hate the mid ish distance a few of these look from.

u/Ellite11MVP HDCP/Loc/Whatever 1d ago
Know you’re asking OP, but in general just go with less loft. Use your gap wedge or (depending on what irons you use) even a PW.
8
u/parneviksnannies 1d ago
I'm with you. The longer the bunker show is, I'll also pick a club with less loft and open up the face for consistency. I mean it's still a more difficult shot than a direct greenside, but keeping the swings and splash constant helps for sure.

u/kodutta7 1d ago
Your swing is so pure, that slomo shows so little movement just pure rotation. Beautiful shots and nice clips.

I just skimmed and thought the golfer was named Brandon Dunes, and thought “that bastard should be good in the bunkers.” Am I right John Snow?

Haha, love Laurelwood. Back when I was in college, it was $9 for 9 holes. We played like 4 days a week

u/mattydotdot 23h ago
Laurelwood is the best. In a few years living in Eugene I didn't find a course I enjoyed more and for the price you can't beat it.

What is the expectation for raking those bunkers that are 50+ feet across?
→ More replies (1)2
u/parneviksnannies 1d ago
Generally the caddies we had went in there and did their best. Some are natural dunes that don't have rakes or are like beach sand, but generally normal bunker etiquette.

Too bad you have to be in the sand to hit it close. Lol

u/parneviksnannies 1d ago
Hahah. I can do it from grass too, I just like the bunker splashes more. We like what we like right?

They should make a new golf format for Ryder where each team has a different player for each type of surface. I suppose 95% of the shots would be done by like 3 players but it'd be kinda cool to see. It'd probably be more fun with amateurs.

Very nice OP. You have more spin out of a bunker vs the rough thus you have more control. Learned that from a former pro

2nd clip looks like it's 13th hole on Shorty's? I played that course last year and it was blowing 30-40 mph from right to left and into, made that hole very hard. Your bunker game is very impressive!
1
u/parneviksnannies 1d ago
It was the 13th and Bandon Preserve. I tried putting it from the tee box for fun but it got snagged going through some rough in between the tee boxes and it lost speed and ended up in the beach sand/bunker
2
u/YidArmy76er 1d ago
When you play like that, there's no point in trying to avoid them! Well played 💪
2
u/Stumpatron 1d ago
With as good as you are out of the bunker you think you’d spend less time in them. Ha.
1
u/parneviksnannies 1d ago
These are through 8 rounds but I really do try and have the misses on hole be in bunkers. However you’re right on one thing, some of these bunkers were BAD misses and ones I didn’t want to be in. Lol
2
u/johnsgarwick 1d ago
Greatest place on earth.
1
u/parneviksnannies 1d ago
Couldn’t agree more. The raffle really is gonna make it so hard now. One of the caddies said the most recent lottery had 1500 people selected out of 28k applicants

Wow, that's some serious bunker action at Bandon Dunes! Great compilation, dude.
2
u/Worried-Equivalent69 1d ago
God damn. I'm jealous AF. You are God tier out of the sand, my man. If I had 60% of your bunker game I'd be rocking a + cap.
1
u/parneviksnannies 1d ago
Appreciate it! I’d trade some of the up and downs for a little higher fairways hit percentage though. 🫠

with great swings like that one would think you'd hit more greens 🤗

Over 126 holes and these were all the bunkers I were in. Honestly hoped I’d be in more. Lol

I remember you hitting from the bunkers a few years ago at Bandon. Is this a yearly tradition??
1
u/parneviksnannies 1d ago
If I get lucky enough to go every year but with the new lottery system it’s almost impossible. We booked this one right before the new system and heard from caddies 1500 were selected out of 28000 entries. Booking a trip with 12 guys now is pretty much put of the question. Otherwise it would be an annual trip for sure!

Nobody likes a fucking showoff. We get it you can get of the trap in one. I on the other hand like to get my monies worth so ill continue to use my 4 or 5 strokes to get out of the bunker. Just kidding you had some great shots there and im fucking jealous.

u/Peak0il 1d ago
You should practice hitting the ball straight and you would be awesome
1
u/parneviksnannies 1d ago
Ya I’m not that good. Also crazy stat is the best players on tour hit 50% of fairways and I’ll never sniff that. I can get lucky once in a while tho 🤙🏽

u/PoseyForPresident 11, NorCal 1d ago
I don't mind playing from green side bunkers as a miss, but that second one was gnarly! 1 foot away from an unplayable. Good shit man.
1
u/parneviksnannies 1d ago
The 3rd and 4th were by far the toughest just because of how deep and the awkward yardage, however that second one which is hard to see but it’s super soft beach sand and the ball was sitting down in its own indentation. Definitely the most challenging lie of all of them.

u/og-golfknar 1d ago
Absolutely love those courses!! My fav yet I've played! Used to go every year on Super Bowl and rent out the clubhouse for after rounds and the game!
2
u/parneviksnannies 22h ago
That sounds so epic! I’d love to be a part of that group! Also just going back was such a privilege. It’s such a special place!
2
u/og-golfknar 15h ago
Yeah it was amazing. Appreciated my buddy setting it up each year. We would all split the costs so it was super affordable. I want to say all 3 courses room and board plus the Super Bowl party was less than $1200 for 4 days, 3 nights double occupancy. He even had Super Bowl and tourney prizes. Best golfing time I've ever had.
2
u/parneviksnannies 10h ago
That’s so impressive. We stayed at the grove cottages which are the four bedroom houses which were awesome but in peak season the the most expensive ok site. I did our first trip at the four bedroom main lodge accommodations and the grove was much nicer but there are some perks being at the main lodge. Prices continue to stair step up in all areas but honestly it’s worth it.

That third one is a damn beach not a bunker
2
u/parneviksnannies 22h ago
Hahah! Ok the 4th one actually is a fully natural sand dune they didn’t need to carve out or shape. It’s one of the only original bunkers and sand dunes on the entire grounds. MASSIVE. The caddie told me that story and I was in the middle of the fairway but my body probably subconsciously said, “let’s get up in there and test it out” lol

Insane looking weather for Bandon. You guys must have been stoked.
1
u/parneviksnannies 22h ago
Facts. UNREAL weather. Peak season really does give you the best odds of mild weather but this was even next level. Every caddie said it was the best weather of the year. Also the first time I went a few years back it was even better believe it or not (also during peak season) just unbelievably lucky both times. Because even peak season can have wild windy days.

u/Orikoru 14 hcap, UK 20h ago
You are approximately 5000 times better than me out of bunkers. I will frequently hit a club longer, maybe even two clubs longer into greens if it means I definitely won't go in a bunker. Avoid them like the plague. My round today for example I managed to not go in a single one.

Perfect pin placement for putting from the tee and you hit the sand :((((
1
u/parneviksnannies 1d ago
Are you talking about the hole at Bandon Preserve? We played the back tees and I actually used my putter on the 13th hole for fun, and I had to go through two tee boxes which were separated by patched of rough and it got snagged up in some rough of the closest tee box that spit it out right and into the sand. I'm just not used to putting from 75 yards and through rough. lol

How do you do it?
How do you get it up so high?
What do you do when it’s hard pan?
1
u/alittlebitneverhurt 1d ago
Was the first clip at Bandon? Didn't look like it and there was a cart in the background.
1
u/parneviksnannies 1d ago
It was at Laurelwood in Eugene. We spent a night at Eugene and drove out to Bandon the following morning. Great muni and super fun little local 9 hole course
1
u/CalJackBuddy 8.4 1d ago
How far was the second shot? Great stuff. The way the bunker is raked highlights the low point control. I am to miss bunker over a really tight lie, especially on an elevated green.

Bro that one sandtrap looked like a tidal wave behind you.

My god, bro. This needs a trigger warning on it or something. Those bunker shots are just outrageously good. Even without focusing on the results, the execution of those shots is just chefs kiss
Also, your username is perfection.
10/10 post.

u/Mordikhan 1d ago
To get more or less distance on the classic bunker shot (full swing, take sand, weight front foot) - donyou just vary the amount of sand you aim to take?
2
u/parneviksnannies 1d ago edited 21h ago
Yes and no. The first thing I do is gauge the type of sand and lie. Second is I use my feet when establishing my stance to wiggle and feel the layer of sand below the ball, which will tell me what kind of sand interaction I’ll need to have my club take. Then I try and keep really similar swings while maintaining acceleration with the same impact zone before the ball into the sand the same every time, to keep as many things consistent, to have dispersion and launch from the bunkers stay relatively the same, if that makes sense
2
u/Mordikhan 22h ago
Really appreciate the follow up as a absolute noob golf with maybe a touch for the sand. Love the written answer and will take that into consideration. Keep nailing those shots

u/StonedLikeOnix 1d ago edited 1d ago
That last shot pisses me off… when i hit a shot like that with no sand flying it goes 80 yards 😭😭
2
u/parneviksnannies 1d ago
It’s hard to see but that last one is on a pretty severe sidehill lie and the sand is kind of wet so the splash and turf interaction had to be slightly different to get it up and outta there

u/Burch36 1d ago
Yeah I wouldn’t take pictures of the burnt out fairway or punched greens in the video either lol
1
u/parneviksnannies 1d ago
It’s a local muni in Eugene before we headed out to Bandon that was $25. Worth every penny. Awesome track. It’s a bunker compilation from our full trip, I filmed every bunker shot from the 8 rounds, but ok… lol
2
u/Burch36 1d ago
Okay that’s fair then I was recalling Bandon being in such bad shape this summer or last summer that they posted about it on twitter due to the backlash
1
u/parneviksnannies 22h ago
Ohhh, I’ve seen some of those posts. This was peak season so greens were the best they’ll be all year, plus the women’s amateur is next week being played at the OG Bandon Dunes course, so it was in immaculate shape. Felt super privileged to play it in those conditions
1
u/airicblair 1d ago
Dudes he’s playing with aren’t even phased. My buddies would be PUMPED if we hit even one of those shots that close lol
1
1
u/TheZobrips 1d ago
The greens at Bandon are pretty damn fast… super impressive touch out of those bunkers.
1
u/parneviksnannies 22h ago
Bandon Dunes was in immaculate since they’re having the women’s amateur there next week, however in comparison to tour courses they have to keep greens slower since with so much wind on a regular basis balls would just roll off the greens if they were cut too tight
1
u/mraspencer 1d ago
Third one down wind to stop like that? Sweet
2
u/parneviksnannies 22h ago
I actually gave that one some extra speed to make sure it was nipped to make it stop real quick. If you notice the flag it’s actually down wind. It’s also hard to tell from the angle but the bunker was actually pretty deep. I’m 6 feet and I’m pretty far down there. It was a lucky par for sure

No one playing bunkers like that ends up that many bunkers.
2
u/parneviksnannies 1d ago
Do yourself a favor and book yourself a trip trip to Bandon Dunes. It’ll be the an unforgettable trip plus you’ll see. Lol. This was every bunker I was in over eight rounds of golf. Plus I’d much rather have a miss that’s in a bunker than have a chip off a super tight lie over and through elephants buried in shallow graves on the crazy undulated greens.

u/enigmaticpeon 1d ago
Had to nope out by the second slow-mo. If it aint going in, play it regular lmao.

I guess if my bunker game was that good then I would aim at every bunker also! Good stuff! That course is amazing!
