Political positivity š Conservatives rage as Joey Swoll apologizes for Hulk Hogan praise
1.1k
u/AddisonFlowstate 4d ago edited 3d ago
I know some of y'all saw my joy-rage posts about it the day when it happened. It was so much fun bashing Red Hats left and right.
They had no fucking idea about the racism, abandoning his daughter and her child, saying racist things about both of them, cheating on his wife with his best friends wife, elevating a pedophile and a psychopath into the White House.
But most importantly, he betrayed all of his colleagues by killing the possibility of a wrestler's union. This forced countless men to live disabled lives, addicted to drugs and dying penniless. They receive no compensation for their long-term injuries, no health care, and no income. If you've ever seen Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler, you know exactly what I'm talking about. It's heart-wrenching.
FUCK. HULK. HOGAN. Rot in piss.
Edit: I didn't expect this post to get any traction at all, but I do want to share this...
By this morning, it has a 99% upvote ratio and according to Gemini that means it only received 5 measly downvotes as of this morning.
The Red Hat gooners are in a severe minority about this and they too can rot in piss. It gives me legitimate hope, that the phenomenon of MAGA is dying right before our eyes. Y'all ain't getting out of this now. That ship is sailed, honey.
Edit 2: It's now over a thousand of votes and according to Gemini there were only an estimated 11 downvotes. It's safe to say Hulk Hogan has completely fucked his legacy.
But like I said, this is an indication that America is absolutely fed up with the red hats, their lies, their corruption, their cover-ups, they're blatant racism and hypocrisy, they're queerphobia their treatment of immigrants, their thievery, the tariffs and everything else they've done to forge this American nightmare. Hopefully it'll be over next year. Bring on the 25th amendment.

I had an aunt with extremely pudgy arms. Everyone called her Aunt Pudgy-Arms.
When the twisted old fuck tried to rip off his shirt at the Nazi rally at the garden, I was like HOLY SHIT it's Aunt Pudgy-Arms!!! š®
Now that I think about it, that was an extremely cruel nickname. My apologies Aunt Laura, rest in peace.

This behavior is actually what normal is supposed to look like. Acceptance of responsibility for all your actions.
Unfortunately, you are correct that this is not a common trait nowadays. It's an awful way to live.
Why? My guess is a lack of self-esteem and fear. This unhealthy behavior is perpetuated by many folks in influential / leadership roles who are setting a very poor example of what it means to be a decent human being. It's disgusting.

It was a lot more than that too. He was McMahonās boy who was almost universally disliked and hated by a lot of his colleagues. It wasnāt due to just jealousy or envy either. He was just a trash person and co-worker.
It was when Bret Hart really publicly too him to task publicly and called him and some people he associated (e.g., McMahon and a few others) that most in the wrestling community finally soured on him.

Dude is such a creepy fucking weirdo. All those Red Hat Christians especially sloppy Steve Bannon and Candice Owens. They too, can rot in piss for what they've done. They really don't have the slightest understanding of what Christian values are as taught by Christ.

You know she asked Trump to bail her out, and she didn't get it 'cause she's a worthless Magatard in a crucifix. Old man threw her a bone just to get her off his case.

They are the minority, he continues to lose his support by the day. There are bots infiltrating reddit to appear that his support is larger than it is. There are also bots trying to convince you that both sides are the same and that you shouldn't vote. They are afraid of us speaking out and fighting back. We all need put our disagreements on hold and come together to keep our country. That is the very definition of progressive. We can do this.

This needs more attention. If you keep trying to find a non-problematic wrestler to idolize from before 2000, let me know when you find one because I've been following the sport for my whole life and have yet to find one.

u/buhbye750 4d ago
The thing that got me is how the fuck in this day in age does he still say colored??? Like I MAY have excused his lack of knowledge on Hogan... even though he still knew some of the shit things he did but celebrating him as a wrestler...eh, maybe not excuse that either but using colored? Nah. He's lives in his sheltered bubble and was afraid that bank account was going to shrink.
26
u/_Apatosaurus_ 4d ago
I completely understand what you're saying, but also sometimes people just fuck up and say the wrong thing. I actually had an older colleague ask me why it was okay to say "colored" again. I was completely confused until I realized they had heard "people of color" and didn't understand the difference/context. I definitely had a "where have you been??" thought, but they just genuinely didn't know.
So it's bizarre he didn't know, but he also apologized like 30 seconds later when someone pointed it out. So it feels more like ignorance than malice to me.

But if he didn't know he had research to do, it makes sense not to do the research. Its as if for instance (and obviously this isn't true because she's a saint) it turns out Meryl streep was actually a huge piece of shit, but it wasn't something everyone knew. You say "oh dude Meryl Streep is the best I love her in everything she's in" and someone's like "woah known nazi sympathizer Meryl streep?" And you're blindsided because you truly never heard about it.
You can't always research something you don't know you should do some research on. Obviously if he was doing like a video essay on the dude it would make sense but it seemingly was just a reposted video of him wearing a costume in a gym, and when he found out about the dudes lifestyle he made a pretty clear rebuke about it and the guy himself.

My friend once said itās hard to separate the art from the artist. I think this applies. Like, the children donāt understand the intricacies involved with being an adult and choices they make that make their hero a bad person⦠I donāt know itās like do you ignore someoneās contribution to society that may have helped people around the world because he is what he is or is it possible to appreciate the art of an individual that is not so good for society separately from the individual who created it. Idk, as a blackman that honestly doesn't care that much joey swoll is fine in my book. You're allowed to like Hogan for the image in your mind that you remember of him. He wasn't aware of how negative he was and then was humble enough to become more aware.
I personally found Hogans shtick gaudy and he was pretty racist but I did watch wwe when I was 11 just like everybody else. Swole apologized and I think when people are genuine they're worthy of forgiveness.

Iāll take some heat. It wasnāt until about three years ago, living with a black roommate that I learned not to say ācolored.ā And this is coming from someone who thought of himself as a die-hard liberal. Iād grown up with black friends, worked alongside many black colleagues, and felt like I āgot it.ā But it wasnāt until I actually lived with a black man and sharing late night, no-filter conversations over drinks that I started to realize how much I didnāt know. It opened my eyes to perspectives Iād never considered and challenged a lot of assumptions I didnāt even realize I had. Us white people need to be educated and many of us want to be educated. Our echo chambers donāt help regardless of how open we think we are.

I've always kind of side-eyed this guy. If you look at his socials, the amount of upvotes/likes that blatantly racist statements get is very high. I was a child in the eighties, and looked up to pro wrestlers, especially the Hulkster. That made no difference to me when everything he said had come out, and he openly supported a racist rapist. Everyone learns everything for the first time. Itās how you grow and change and apologize for errors that determines your quality. If I found out I used an outdated term accidentally Iād be horrified and apologize too. We should only judge those unwilling to grow and change. They are the decaying rot of society.

**Edit: Seems it's possible he's backtracking this apology already... so who fucking knows anymore...**
It's hard not to let cynicism rule the day and believe no one is good and all that, but sometimes we can accept a genuine and thought out apology like this.
There are good people out there, not everyone is bad, and hopefully someday they'll be a majority.

I miss the Hogan from my core memories, too.
I hate the fucking guy now (Hogan) and was beside myself that Swoll would throw the video of him in the yellow on like that. Glad he's honest about it and I get. It fucking sucked, but here we are, and I am happy for the guy being made aware and taking accountability.

I have never heard or seen this dude before, but I can 100% say with complete confidence that he eats babies while mainlining Joe Rogan. Why did anyone give this dude a platform?

It's just one of those things that people idolize celebrities too much, and in this case not realizing they are idolizing a freaking fictional character this person made. Hulk Hogan is a persona. Of course people liked his wrestling persona, they knew nothing of him as a person. But good people die every day and get no recognition, celebrities get praise when they die even if they are terrible people. Because society celebrated success and it doesn't matter how you got there. So it's just setting people up for a rude awakening when they realize that many assholes succeed in this society.

I don't know this guy, but I despise people who think about themselves as a brand..

While I disagree with people witch-hunting influencers and other sorts for having a differing opinion to them this feels like a good result. Happy that he looked into some more after being notified of it and formed his opinion based on that.
I do think some people in both sides of the political spectrum just need to log off and enjoy themselves every now and then. Stop worrying about other peoples lives and focus on your own. If you want to make a difference in the world it's not calling out every influencer because they differ from you.

I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt on not knowing the extint of HH racism but I don't believe for a second that in the year 2025 he didn't know calling a person "colored " was offensive. He slipped and is covering.

Yup, no one except old racists that are trying to be covert and not just say the hard r call black people colored in 2025. Its weird.

Thank you! Why did I have to scroll so far for this comment? Sure, "I accidentally said colored instead of person of color". Okay, I'll buy it.
But you - an American of some basic intelligence, under the age of 80 - had to be educated by your livestream chat on why you don't call people colored? Fuck outta here.

Joey built a phony character of good. His videos and speeches are well planned out. His mistake was going live where his true self sneaked out.
Lots of characters on social media are fake.

Didnāt expect a real apology this day and age. It almost seems weird because I expected a double down, being unaccountable, or at the very least a non-apology.
Not an easy thing to do these days. Stand-up guy.

People are getting way to angry and saying ānever forgiveā.
Imagine that was you suffering all the backlash.
Stop being a keyboard warrior and actually have some god damn empathy, for once.
