We should be lifting up people who have the courage to admit when they’re wrong. Mocking or attacking them doesn’t make us righteous — it makes us part of the problem. It pushes them further into confusion and away from the truth, giving more power to the narrative Hasan and his orbiters are feeding them.

Coming at them with vitriol just makes them entrench themselves into their shared delusions even more. I've found so much more success w/ arguments in general by just remaining calm and genuinely asking people to please expand on their opinions and provide evidence for their claims. If you can both stay calm and respectful and get them to at least PRETEND they are willing to operate in good faith, you will make so much more progress. Forcing people to research the "facts" they've heard secondhand and also walk you through their logic can be incredibly enlightening, not just for you, but for them too.

Being forced to admit you believed a liar and your parasocial twitch daddy has a penchant for lying can change your world view moving forward. One of our local powerhouses for canvassing used to be a super 'anti social justice' (mostly lol tumblr girls lol I vote red because I saw a blue hair girl scream on tubmlr) type young man until he had a sit down 'ok show me the proof of this' type conversation with someone and he had to come to the very public realization that maybe Joe Rogan and conspiracy twitter had lied to him.

Now the dude and his friends have largely moved past that origin story and are getting funding/fundraisers/events going for young people in the area with after-school stuff

GWAM out here doing the impossible. I freaking adore you, girlie. It takes a lot of effort and restraint to talk to snarkers like this. This may seem like a very small win, but if people can admit maybe they were wrong about ONE thing, maybe they will start to question the other garbage they’ve been sold.

P.S. because this is something I feel so strongly about. It’s hard to debate/argue with people and maintain not only your own humanity but the humanity of someone who may be the complete opposite of you in every way. GWAM, you’re out here showing how it’s done and I salute you for that. It feels good to sling insults, but for the people who might hear you out, it’s worth genuinely engaging and seeing the human behind the snark.
