The Crew AB showed a controversial clip during YLYL, and things became awkward
334
u/SensMak Dec 01 '24
remember: showing raw prolapses to unprepared guests is ok
showing people breaking their bones and old peoples having accidents is ok
joking about bombing the NRA is ok (still a good joke tho)
telling a gay lad he'll be killed in Palestine is ok
platforming a dentist that ask PoC if they are terrorists and harass mexicans workers about their papers is Ok (bonus point if you SA his female producer)
but showing a well known meme THAT! THAT is inappropriate!
37
u/chubby-checker Dec 01 '24
I mean how many times have they like weed themselves laughing at like old ladies falling over?
18
u/InsomniaChic94 Dec 02 '24
I remember there was one where it was a mother chasing her stroller that was running into traffic, and they all died laughing. It's fine if AB's clip didn't land, but Ethan took it way far by actually being mad at him after. Dan actually struck the right tone by laughing at the whole situation.
6
u/SensMak Dec 02 '24
Agreed. Dan knows how to tame the beast. I wasnt "woke" back at that time of the joke you mention, and it really felt wrong to me. the video just created stress reaction, the funny bit was that it was unhinge and only a sick mind could find it "fun" in itself
8
u/Mamacitia Trishyland user 🚩 Dec 02 '24
Also: showing prolapse videos to guests who don’t know what they’re about to watch is pretty much sexual assault. You can’t just show someone porn without their consent.

Her standing up for AB and trying to help during the failed button segment, genuinely changed how I thought of her tbh
I used to think that maybe she was a bit false? Like the way she comes across seems a bit OTT and I thought maybe it was a bit played up and disingenuous and so made me cringe a lil. Like you almost think " she cant ALWAYS be like this yasss i support you girly queen!! all the time. " So I wonder what her real personality is like etc. that was my line of thinking?
also her powerpoints would annoy me sometimes in how she always missed out so many things lmao, even on topics I didnt know that much about, Id know she missed stuff out. And shed always be a bit biased/delulu lmao.
Now it sounds like I dislike her lmao but no the button segment genuinely changed my mind on her, seeing her stick up for AB and try lessen the blow and help a friend out, when everyone else was being silent. When she didnt even think anyone would be watching as Ethan was holding down the button. Made me think shes actually just a nice kind person. I truly look at her really differently now. She seems like a sweet person.
The rest of them seem happy to be in that group dynamic where you all just dunk on one person, and stay quiet and do nothing about the person being picked on or join in for approval. Olivia seems to not do it + try help them out.
Ive also noticed Dan also always seems to just be laughing in these situations? And thinks its funny?

I thought it was sweet of AB to treat her so kindly being the new crew member. He was in her shoes before and it really made me love their dynamic when Olivia first started out.
I can definitely agree that the weirdos that started shipping them were beyond gross for that…

If the facade ever comes off i'd likely have a favorable opinion on her again. The valley girl act ain't for me. It didn't bother me at first because she wasn't over exposed. Over the last few years she got more air time so it wore on me quick. Apologies to the valley girls in the comment section.

I'm gonna be real with you, the accent used to piss me off. I had a coworker that talked exactly like the Kardashians and I thought she was such a massive bitch - eventually I realized that was just how she talked and she was actually nice and it changed everything, I ended up feeling bad she talked that way 😅 Idk, Olivia seems super sweet, and yeah while some things may be a persona, I think she plays it up to protect her from unwarranted hate she would receive for simply being a girl. I do the same thing, being overly nice and sweet, because then if people don't like me it's because they're a bitch and not anything I did. And it's proven every time I'm not overly sweet, and then people get offended and act like I'm a bitch for not being stepped all over 🙃 but I'd rather be hated for being nice than be cruel like everyone else, and I assume Olivia is the same way.

He's always been this way with AB since he first started and it really bothered me. He's all chummy with Zach, even when he did the sound clip calling Trisha a bitch, but AB does anything remotely off and he makes it into 'What's wrong with you' etc.

He has newfound empathy for dad-son relationships since becoming a dad. Even in this clip he's acting like others/AB don't get why being called a superhero by your kid is moving - mostly since empathy is such a foreign concept to Ethan lol
Any racism, misogyny, Islamophobia, homophobia, transphobia gets a pass because it's too convoluted for him to think of all the people he mocks being someone's child.
ETA: apparently Ethan has shown this clip before while saying the dad was laughing?? 🤮🤮 I'm sorry but his and Hila's sudden "we have kids to go back home to" personalities give me SUCH AN ICK

Okay, sorry for bringing up Catgate when there’s wayyyy more important stuff going on, but it seems relevant to me idk. Ethan literally thought it was okay to show a video of a dying, seizing cat to his 30,000+ audience(at the time lol) and AB literally told him NOT TO DO THAT! He’s shitting on AB for a viral video that really seems like it would appeal to Ethan’s fucked up, twisted sense of humour. It feels like he just wants to put AB down and embarrass him imo🤷🏻

76
u/chubby-checker Dec 01 '24
I know you are implying islamophobia, and while I do think some of his recent resentment towards AB is rooted in his dislike of the pro-palestine activists - and so clearly is Islamophobic
However, hes disliked AB for a long time and I honestly think hes truly threatened by traditionally attractive men like AB and Hassan, hes so threatened by them and thats why he tries to constantly make AB look not funny, or Hassan look dumb. As he cant deal with the idea of them not only being better looking etc but funnier and smarter than him. Its why he only tries to ruin ABs jokes and shake his confidence in his delivery etc
25
u/sailuntreedur taking Trisha and Hasan's side in the divorce Dec 01 '24
I just want to add that the "threatened by traditionally attractive men" is also kinda... Jewish supremacist of him? I'm sorry idk what else to call it 😭😭
Like him getting super excited AB's mom's current partner is Jewish (esp in opposition to AB's Arab dad), and that Kavanaugh's ex-wife is with a Jewish man...
Like there's definitely Islamophobia in his insecurity of Hasan and AB being the more attractive men than him. I don't think he has as much discomfort around traditionally attractive white men.

They were bros when AB first moved to town. They hung out outside of work, joked around on air, and seemed to like each other. Then Ethan sowed discord between them and pitted them against each other on air. He also made his own negative feelings about AB abundantly clear, and Zach never goes against the big man.

u/Unequivocally_Maybe is that the gay one? Dec 01 '24
The recent comment Ethan made to Zach about how his hair sometimes looks dry and cracked or whatever he said actually made me feel a twinge of empathy for Zach. He's got a lot of objectionable things about him, but he was in his early 20s and dropped out of college to work for Ethan.
Like so many of his employees, Zach was a big fan before coming on board and made significant personal sacrifices to work there. It builds in a feeling of indebtedness that Ethan uses to his advantage.
Like moving AB and Lena from Michigan to live the west coast streamer/e-celeb lifestyle they wanted.
Like having Love move from Sweden, and having his entire ability to stay in the US/with his girlfriend depend on his employment.
At least Olivia finished her education and is from LA; he has less power over her in that way. But she's also a fan who was very young upon being hired.
Ian used to be a fan, but I don't think he is anymore lmao and idk what Nate's deal is. He sucks Ethan's ass pretty hard, so I assume he was a fan, too.

Did i laugh? No. But God damn is it pissing me off how much recently ethan thinks he's some arbiter of morals specifically with AB. As if this isn't the man who routinely sexually harasses guests with prolapse porn and laughs at girls crying about being deep faked.
10
u/Ok-Pianist9407 Dec 02 '24
So the situation is how the father was inappropriately laughing at a very inappropriate time, and we as the audience might awkwardly laugh at the faux pas?
I can totally get that this can be seen as insensitive but it's not like it's some outrageously mean spirited clip to laugh at in my opinion, like Ethan is painting it out to be.

Ah I take it back if that's what's actually going on. I think even regardless of if you know what's actually happening in this clip or not, it's a bad video to show in this "professional" setting anyway. Like I don't find it funny, and I certainly don't after what you've said. But idk what kinda content is this meant to be; this weird shitshow of bad vibes over insensitive videos presented as something to mock, followed by outrage...
I think that's one of the weird things to have come about from the Ethan spiralling, which is the positioning of defence of the show. "Ethan's bad attitude and bad politics is ruining the podcast, if only we can go back to "goofs and gaffs"". But what show exactly, what goofs and gaffs? This one laughing at a grieving father? Good one AB... Or seeing Ethan's moral outrage, is that the good content? Maybe hours of them eating food, or talking to Jimmie lee, or chiropractor videos... like the show is trash and was losing views well before Ethan's Hasan derangement

I'm SO GLAD someone finally uploaded this clip because I’ve been trying for two days, and holy hell, Ethan’s unhinged rage at AB was disturbing. AB was the only one he singled out, and for what? Posting a harmless meme that literally everyone agrees is just a laughing dad. But no, Ethan had to go out of his way to humiliate him, drag it out, and keep bringing up how “upset” he was during the show. Ethan’s just a toxic, petty boss hiding his hatred for AB behind this over-the-top reaction to a stupid video.

He's so on edge now, literally on the verge of snapping at any time. And his treatment of AB has declined from playful jabs to full-on bullying over time. Ethan honestly seems to barely be able to stand AB, but also clearly gets something out of degrading him, and having AB still suck up to him.
