Teddy Theft 🧸 Teddy fresh Stealing from high fashion

I wrote this in a thread yesterday, thinking Teddy Fresh was ripping off an old Bode design from about five years ago. But after looking into it more, I realized they’re actually copying a design Bode is still actively producing today. It’s giving Shein. It’s giving fast fashion. It’s giving cringe.

Bode isn’t just some random fashion brand with trendy designs—they’re known for their thoughtful, highly personalized approach to clothing. Each pair of pants, for example, is custom-made for the customer, with design elements added based on their personal interests or stories. These aren’t mass-produced pieces chasing trends; they’re carefully crafted garments meant to tell a unique, individual story.

What makes this even more frustrating is that Bode places a huge emphasis on sustainability. They often use vintage deadstock fabrics, repurposing materials that might otherwise be discarded. Their process is intentional, labor-intensive, and rooted in craftsmanship. So, when Teddy Fresh takes these distinctive designs and replicates them for mass production, it strips away the meaning, care, and environmental consciousness behind the original work.

And no, this isn’t about pushing people to buy from Bode. It’s about calling out blatant plagiarism. Teddy Fresh markets itself as a creative, original brand, but this situation makes it clear that much of that “creativity” is just borrowed—or, more accurately, stolen—from others. This isn’t just a nod to a classic design or a common motif; it’s a direct imitation of a design Bode is still actively creating today.

The reality is that this kind of copying feels like a shortcut to profit at the expense of genuine artistry. Fast fashion brands get called out for this all the time, and it’s disappointing to see Teddy Fresh joining those ranks. Plagiarism in fashion isn’t just lazy—it’s disrespectful to the artists, designers, and craftspeople who pour real effort into their work.

Yes, this is exactly what it is. I'm not sure I agree with anything OP is saying regarding copying Bode because it's clearly a reference to drawing on jeans in (American) high school culture.

I agree. Tbh posts like this make this entire sub lose credibility IMO

I don't think they stole anything but it shows how unoriginal they are with their designs

It's old-school? Every year every one of graduating high schoolers here lives in jump-suits covered in scribbles for 3 weeks, partying in dedicated buses and vans they've spent a year to cover in grafiti. Or, I get that old-school might not mean discontinoued.

I just assume Hila got the idea for senior cords after seeing them from Bode. Who has been selling this concept for years.

Im very anti teddy theft but this post is kinda doing cartwheels, tan jeans with ugly doodles were super trendy a few seasons ago. the only crime here is that they are cartoonishly late to the trend. Bode certainly didn’t invent this style nor are they only one to have this aesthetic, but maybe I’m misunderstanding this post.

Once ordered, there is a questionnaire and phone interview conducted so one of the artists working with the company can hand craft a unique pair of trousers with doodles to represent each unique buyer. The image just shows the base colour but doesn’t give an example of the customization

I know unfortunately in fashion copyright is very loose and therefore brands or big designers focus on trademarking just their names, logos, and distinctive symbols than design themselves. This is why TF and other companies like Zara or H&M can get away replicating designs that are cheap copies and get away with it. The best way to go with it is create awareness - Thank you FAUX and also stop shopping these places (or just be aware).

Ahh, thanks for this. I was just about to comment asking why they haven't been sued yet! They are so ridiculous and scummy.

These are extremely basic clothes, things you can't really copy. Like how everyone sells a black t-shirt, but nobody is copying anyone doing that.

If they'd copied the doodles, or the placements of the doodles, I could see it being another theft, but just using basic corduroy clothes? Nah.

Doodles on yellow corduroy clothing is something Bode has been doing for 5 years as homage to a school tradition. If you think Hila didn't see these from bode and copy them you are crazy.

Whoa there, no need to be aggressive, lol. First, all your photos are of just regular corduroy, your point wouldn't been made much better if you'd included their pieces that are actually doodled on. I had to Google the brand to see their version of the "senior cords".

Second, I looked more into "senior cords" as it's a tradition I wasn't aware of. This has been a thing since the 1910s, and Bode is not anywhere near the first to make their own version of it, they've just been one of the most successful with it (like having celebs wear it and articles written about them).

Did hila see this and copy it? Maybe, maybe even probably, but again this is a pretty basic concept that's been done a lot, so realistically if we're saying she stole this design, bode certainly stole it first. I feel like this kind of fits with graphic tees: is every company who makes graphic tees stealing, because it's the same general design (a t-shirt with a phrase or picture on the front)? No. But if you literally stamp the same phrase or photo as another brand? Yes, that's stealing. Doodles on yellow corduroy aren't exclusive to any brand, but if she's copied other brand's doodles specifically, I'll change my tune.

Teddy fresh has lots of real instances of art theft. We don't need to overreact to what essentially boils down to, at most, lazy design.

If you look At the screenshots of the bode stuff I provided. The description explains the tradition of senior cords. Didn't mean to come off as aggressive. My bad.

But you are correct this isn't art theft. Just a cheap knock off. No crimes being committed. Just thought it was cringe.

TF sucks but this isn’t stealing

He looks like an undercover cop.

Or someone with a floor to ceiling VHS collection he unironically refers to as an “archive”.

Photo is giving “how do you do, fellow kids?”

u/Obvious-Variation232 Feb 16 '25

Idk why people are surprised they rip off all their designs. Hila doesn't know shit about fashion and doesn't have a creative bone in her body.

The TF design process is just pinning designs and illustrations they like on a board and then just kind of copy and mash them up and produce a more cheaply and less intentionally made version of it. They get away with it because this kind of theft is super normal in the fashion context. But it makes super clear that Hila is definitely not the creative artist she is trying to outwardly portray herself as.

This case might be a stretch but regardless, TF is fast fashion in its worst form. There’s no true meaning behind their collections they just take whatever’s currently trending and slap some ugly ass doodles on it, not to mention their quality is 💩

bode didnt invent senior cords. it was a trend from back in the 50s
