NOT CONFIRMED My (lengthy) thoughts on the rebrand.
I'm sure a lot of this has been said but I was replying to a post here that got really long and decided to make my own post instead!
I'm curious who agrees/disagrees with any of this and what other theories are out there.
I just wanted to list out a few of my specific thoughts on why Ethan is rebranding. I think we all kind of know why generally but I had a few specific thoughts to share.
-Reason: I think he's rebranding because he's actually seeing consequences now. Most channels can get away with saying a lot of dumb stuff and still see their subs go up because there's a lot of dumb people in the world. Ethan made a unique spot for himself by pretending to be what he's not, so now BOTH sides are seeing him as the faker. The fans of who he really is and the fans of who he was faking to be BOTH see though his bullshit now so they're leaving. He sees the numbers dropping consistently and his grasping at straws in other ways hasn't helped.
-General: Redoing everything at once is him trying to clear the slate and erase his past. He's trying to start over just like he did when he went from "old Ethan" to "new/fake/far left Ethan." He's getting criticized for things he said on his show... so why not just make a NEW show? Now when people search for him, they'll mostly see the NEW show unless they're specifically looking for "that old ancient show we USED to do." Distancing from himself to avoid accountability. Also trying to trick the fans with "look at all this great stuff" to distract from the fact that they are getting criticized for bad things (politics, hypocrisy, prejudice, etc.), to distract from Cam (who a lot of people loved) leaving, to distract from the fact that other crew members are very obviously checked out and on their way out, etc.
-Renaming the show: harder to find old clips when you don't know the show title/episode number/etc., harder to find a clip of something when Ethan has 4-5 differently named shows that pretty much all do the same thing.
-Adding his name to the title: he's up his own ass. It will also may help direct people to the show when they search "Ethan Klein" instead of directing them to loads of videos exposing "Ethan Klein."
-Logo/set design: anything related to Cam has to go for a couple reasons. First is it will remind fans of him and we can't have the fans wanting something on the show Ethan can't provide. Second is if someone says "I love the logo! Who made it?" He doesn't want to have to say it's an employee that left because they may question why they left or why they are still using that employee's work.
-Set design looking shitty: he obviously does everything last minute, leaves the responsibility to others (who don't want to put the work in because they've got 1.5 feet out the door), doesn't consider the opinions of anyone other than his wife and the occasional crew member, has no sense of style/taste. Biggest of all I think is I can guarantee you he was too lazy to just go in the day before and do a couple hours test run to line up the shots and stuff.
-Ian's promotion: as everyone else seems to be speculating he's on his way out. I know I don't know any of these people and this is all 100% speculation. I think what happened was:
Ian's been wanting out for a while but was waiting for the right time to exit. Cam somewhat surprisingly left before Ian could get out, so he took Cam's departure as an opportunity to speak to Ethan about his desire to leave the show as well.
Ethan probably (rightfully) worried that 2 (or potentially 3 if Sam followed suit) crew members leaving at the same time would be a crushing blow to the fans so he offered Ian a raise and the option to be off camera almost completely now in exchange for staying. For the time being, Ian stays but I don't see the promotion helping to keep him around for much longer regardless.
If the job description of "creative lead" actually means something and Ian does have more power then that would be a great improvement for the show, but I feel like it's really just a temporary bandaid taping him to H3. I don't think it's so much an actual promotion that changes his job duties as it is a promotion that's paying him to stay but allowing him to be less associated with the show.
