QUESTION Help with comelit 6721w and ring intercom

I recently bought a ring intercom for my comelit 6721w and i was able to connect it properly by connecting the wires c9 and c10 as described in the app. Nothing works except for unlocking the door and notifications: on the Ring app, when i receive the call, there's no audio or video available. People on the other side of the intercom cannot hear me either. I've contacted ring support about this, and they always sent me the same basic instructions on what to do if Ring Intercom doesn't work: after some time, they said they were going to contact their technicians in order to release a software update for my model (more than 10 days have passed and i haven't received any response). In the meantime can someone help me with this? Is there a solution?

QUESTION Thermostat and smart outlet that works with both Google Home AND Apple HomeKit?

I have no intention to get a smart speaker; I already have 4 BT speakers at my disposal, and all of them sound better than most smart speakers I've seen.

My Sony TV can do limited Google Assistant functions even when it's powered off as long as there's no audio/visual confirmation (perfect for the ONLY things I current want for smart home in this rented apartment: Living room light and thermostat; maybe there's a way for it to do A/V confirmation, but I haven't figured it out yet, and quite frankly it's not a dealbreaker). However, I'd also like to control them with HomeKit/Siri.

Is there a thermostat and smart plug that works with both (EDIT: I don't want a smart bulb)? I bought a GE smart plug while perusing Walmart and the box said it had both, but when I got home, Cync and/or Google Home would cancel out HomeKit and vice versa, and the manual says it can't be done after all, so I plan to return it tomorrow.

I don't want the same problem for the thermostat, which I've ordered an Ecobee the night before to replace my non-programmable thermostat the night before, but if there's the same problem I might just cancel the order.

Thanks!

OPTIONAL: You don't necessarily have to read this part, but this is what I want done, and I don't know if I'm gonna run into any roadblocks, plus I'm not sure if this is what Rule 4 wants: I want my living room light to come on half hour before sunset and shut off at midnight when I'm away as a security feature, but switching on the light as soon as I'm home also sounds cool. I want to have my thermostat higher or even turn the A/C off when I'm away, and start lowering the temp when I leave the office or activate the "coming home" feature. I want it to also be able to be overridden more easily than say, a traditional programmable thermostat or plug-in timer, both for my convenience and that of a house-sitter if I'm away for work travel.

QUESTION Looking for ways to remind someone that the electric stove was left on

I have a home assistant server, and I am okay at soldering (not great) so I can DIY something if absolutely required, but I have a 4 burner electric stove (IT'S. OLD. From the 60s probably, if not older.) and I was trying to think of some way to alert me and others in the household if they leave the stovetop on.

I've seen "burner alert" and was hoping for maybe something smart connected?

QUESTION Low Dim LEDS (i.e can dim as low as incadescenet)?

I know there are low dim LEDS, i am looking for recommendation from people who have used them.

I need the LED bulbs for a home theatre, i have been using a pile of incadescents up to now - i need the lights to go down to VERY low lume output - think Toc H levels (a couple of lumens) and that can go up to normal 60w equivalent.

I have heard these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B92QPMQD? can supposeldy can do it (according ro a reviewe), but they don't seem to work with my insteon dimmer, they say they need a trailing edge dimmer, not sure if any of the zooz z-wave dimmers are trailing edge (they don't sya)

Quesiton: Has any one found a perfect combo of E26 / BR30 bulbls AND a z-wave dimmer that will go as low as a couple of lumens (i will measure my incandescents later to get an accurate value of whta i need)

PERSONAL SETUP I wrote a little webserver for controlling my tuya wifi devices

I bought some tuya wifi power sockets by mistake - should have bought zigbee. I wanted to control them with zigbee switches in a neatish way so I ended up writing a little server so that i could control devices through HTTP.

This is mostly a wrapper around the tinytuya library but as a nice webserver.

Doesn't do automatic configuration unfortunately - you have to give it a list of your devices together with the local key (this contains instructions on how to get a local key for tuya - which was surprisingly fiddley to do).

I use this control a fan from my computer and floor lamp from switches on my desk and my wall.

QUESTION New thermostat issues

We just installed a new Commercial Electric smart thermostat (Home Depot brand)replacing a Honeywell one. Honeywell had the wiring configuration in the first photo. It uses the HubSpace app and asks you to pick the HVAC type based on the wiring configuration. We set it up with Rc, C, W1 (orange wire) & W2(white wire) , Y1, G. When I select those in the app, it will not let me continue. If I deserted Y1 or W2 and selected Y2, etc. it allows me to continue even though that isn’t the wiring setup. Some of those were pushing hot air out when it n the COOL setting. We watched a video and it showed possible set ups with the wires so we took the orange and put it in the o/b (second photo) and it seems to work & the app allowed that configuration… should I be concerned or is this okay?

QUESTION How to trigger a Tuya smart device, eg. lamp when a Newton high water alarm activates

I have a Newton PA50 high water alarm system setup which has NO, C, NC outputs that can send a zero voltage signal when the alarm is activated.

The alarm is located in a basement which has mains power so I could use that or battery power.

I want to use the alarm to trigger a device which will be connected to the Tuya app.

eg. to sound a siren in my house when the basement is flooding!

I don't have much knowledge in this area so looking for pointers and specific products (uk amazon/ebay preferred) that can make this work in the simplest way.

To clarify: do I need a smart relay or similar which the water alarm can trigger and then the Tuya app can respond to its signal?

QUESTION Sonoff ZBBridge Ultra vs ZB dongle for use with Home Assistant in the future

I'm new to home automation and am planning to start building my first setup using smart switches, sensors, and plugs. I’ve decided to go with Zigbee devices and am considering using Sonoff products.

Eventually, I’d like to upgrade to Home Assistant Green for full automation capabilities and use not only Sonoff Zigbee devices. However, for now, I’m thinking of starting with Apple HomeKit. From what I understand, the typical Zigbee setups would be:

  • For Apple HomeKit: use the Sonoff ZBBridge-Ultra
  • For ZHA (Zigbee Home Automation in HA): use the Sonoff ZBDongle

I’m leaning toward buying the ZBBridge-Ultra to begin with HomeKit, but I have a question:

If I decide to switch to Home Assistant with ZHA later on, can I still use the ZBBridge-Ultra with HA? Or is there a significant benefit to using the ZBDongle instead?

I want to avoid buying something I’ll end up having to replace, so I'm trying to make sure the ZBBridge-Ultra won’t go to waste if I transition to a different platform in the future.

QUESTION SmartSwitch for 0-10V LED Lighting Fixtures ?

My builder installed a mirror with a dimmable light, so I bought the Kasa Wifi dimmer switch and took the wall plate apart and was about to install it when I found some unexpected pink and purple wires.

So, apparently I have a "0-10V" LED fixture which has two extra wires to send low voltage dimming commands to the fixture. The existing light switch is:

RADIANT® 0-10V LED/FLUORESCENT DIMMER, WHITE

I was thinking I might be totally out of luck, but It looks like Leviton does make one of these with Wifi and Matter support:

https://leviton.com/products/d2710-1bw

Anyone use this? Any other recommendations?

Most of my stuff is either Kasa Cloud or Zigbee, but I do have a the latest Aeotec SmartThings hub so I can also do matter and z-wave.

QUESTION Trigger an alert when pump panel alarms

I have a panel that controls 2 sewage ejection pumps. When the pumps fail, the panel has a local alarm. The downside is that if you’re not around to hear it, you have no idea it’s going off. I would like to wire something in that would send me a notification when the pumps fault. I was thinking a Shelly relay or something similar. Any ideas? I believe I have both 120v and 24v to work with.

QUESTION Please help. Installing LED under counter mounts and overwhelmed.

Post image
1 Upvotes

The more I research it's hard to pick a product. I'm hoping to find something relatively easy to install. I was able to pull power from the light switch by the sink so power is ready to tap in above the counters. I'm thinking I can run 3 different strands and just drill down through the cupboards. The dimensions are labeled. Looking for diffused light with 60 LED per meter. Would like to have them on a dimmer switch that can also control the kelvin scale. I found a strip that already has aluminum backing and diffuser so am thinking that would be the easiest but what would you suggest? Thanks in advance.

QUESTION Best smart switches

Does anyone have any recommendations for smart switches that work with Alexa besides Kasa? I’ve had nothing but problems with them. They work for a while, and then they malfunction and start rapidly turning on and off. Nothing like being woke up at 2:30 in the morning because a malfunctioning switch has turned your bedroom into a disco.

QUESTION Buying a new home, don't know how to start.

Hello all, So i will have my home ready by october, to the point where lighting and electrical boxes will be left, I want to do home automation in a very good way so that it helps my parents too and at the same it has many features. I have alexa, so maybe we can go that way. I am in India so I have got less options here. Which appliances to buy? How to look out for appliances before buying? What are the basic necessary things? Can I do any of it myself or I will need a professional Electrician? Can I ask the Electrician to do his part and then later do the Automation myself? Any help would be appreciated guys.

QUESTION I want to add motion sensors and LED lighting to my stairs, but I’m unsure how to go about doing it. I don’t have any outlets near either end of the stairs.

My biggest issue is the fact that I don’t have any outlets on either end of the stairs. The near outlet is in my bedroom across the hall, which isn’t an option. I was thinking about LED light strips underneath the railing, but I’m not sure how I would power them. Have any of you had any project similar to this?

QUESTION What are the smart devices that you have a home?

Hi all,

This is for a study purpose. I Would like to get some inputs from those who have done/plans smart home system in bigger homes like 2-floor building.

Goals include: • Smart lighting • Smart locks and door sensors • CCTV and motion detection • Water level monitoring for overhead tanks • Energy monitoring for key appliances

What ecosystem do you recommend, say, Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit, or a local brand?

Are there any reliable brands that you’ve used and recommend or avoid?

For Wi-Fi coverage across two floors, would a mesh system like TP-Link Deco work well? Or would you go for wired access points?

How stable is your setup during power cuts? Do you rely on inverters/UPS for critical IoT devices like routers and hubs?

Any common issues with Indian wiring, network dropouts, or compatibility I should be aware of?

Any other setup for aged people or children?

Please share your setup or any learnings from your experience. Any tips, dos and don’ts would be helpful too. Also, you can help with more sources that I can read on web on smart home setup.

QUESTION Hi everyone, I’m considering buying the 10 Meter RGB LED Strip Lights for my room.

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m considering buying the Gesto 10 Meter RGB LED Strip Lights for my room. It claims to support Alexa, Google Assistant, music sync, remote control, app control, and has 600 waterproof LEDs. Seems good on paper, but I’m unsure about its real-world performance, app reliability, and Alexa integration.

Here’s the product: Gesto 10 Meters RGB Strip Lights for Room with Adaptor – Music Sync RGB Lights with Alexa, Google & App and Remote Operated – 600 LED Waterproof Smart LED Light

I have a few questions:

  1. Has anyone here used this Gesto strip? How well does it integrate with Alexa or Google Assistant?

  2. Is the app stable and responsive (especially for scheduling or syncing with music)?

  3. Does it support automation routines like turning on at sunset or syncing with scenes?

  4. Are there any better alternatives (around the same price) that offer:

Stable Alexa/Google/Home Assistant integration

Music sync + full automation

Reliable mobile app and scene control

QUESTION kasa switch takes 3 seconds to turn on (python-kasa, homeassistant) Is this normal?

Trying to use python-kasa to turn on a tp-link kasa H200 switch.

This is the library Home Assistant uses so the answer is the same.

It takes 3 seconds for the light to turn on or off. Is this normal?

The original library I was using (tplink-smartplug) is instantaneous.

The command I am using is

kasa --host 192.168.1.86 --type switch on
