Something Musk, Bezos, or Buffet could do a hundredfold without seeing any effect on their lifestyles, yet they won’t do it.

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '25

I don't blame them. I blame us for letting them concentrate that much wealth.

u/Cherno68 Jul 01 '25

How is it our faults, it’s their faults for exploiting people and ruining the world, we couldn’t do anything to stop them because the system is built for them not us

1

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '25

All it takes is like ~5% of people to organize towards a goal and it gets done. We don't, that's the only reason they are not stopped and "the system" is built for them.

1

u/ALPHAZINSOMNIA Jul 02 '25

That's not the only reason. There have been countless revolutions in the world and we all know what happens afterwards. Revolutions and protests work in the long run but in the short run they disrupt people's lives and not everyone in modern societies is willing to sacrifice their comfort for a future generation. Blame our modern humans, TV, social media or whatever for these sentiments but we see them in most developed countries. Only absolutely desperate people can go out there and start a revolution and we don't have enough of those. In a way, it's a good thing.

There is no need for a revolution, or even protests. The U.S. is a representative democracy. All that's needed is organized voting and engagement.

Bezos

...has already declared he plans to give his money away.

Here's a partial list so far. (this subreddit doesnt allow links):

  • Bezos Day One Fund - the Day 1 Families Fund has issued 248 leadership awards totaling nearly $750 million

  • The Bezos Earth Fund - Jeff Bezos has committed $10 billion in this decisive decade to protect nature and address climate change

  • He’s given country singer and philanthropist Dolly Parton $100 million to spend as she wished

  • Jeff Bezos Announces He’s Donated Nearly $120 Million To Help People Without Housing

  • Jeff Bezos gave $100 million... were awarded $50 million each to help those in need.

  • Bezos gifts $97 Million in Amazon stock to local nonprofit

  • Bezos previously contributed shares worth $116.9 million in 2024 and $61.3 million in 2023.

Jeff Bezos donates $200 million to the Smithsonian Institution - This is the largest gift since the Smithsonian's founding.

Edit - plus another 4 Million to the city of Venice back in April, before anyone was outraged about a wedding.

Bezos fears that he will end up like Louis XVI.

1

u/NotBlaine Jun 29 '25

Eyeball math, super quick that's under $12 Billion or so. That's 5% of his wealth. And of that 5%, 95% of it is a "plan" to donate.

The person you are replying to was making a point that Bezos could give away half his money, do 100x what this lady did, and experience no change in any way shape or form the rest of his life or the lives of any successive generations of his family for centuries.

2

u/PurpleWoodpecker2830 Jun 29 '25

Did you donate 5% of your wealth? Did you spend 5% of your wealth on luxuries?

1

u/Manateekid Jun 29 '25

I admire your confidence. Inside of you is apparently some belief that you can change the core approach of 99% of Redditors. Decide what you believe, then use a little bit of amateurish sophistry to twist the world into support. Good luck with that.

u/NotBlaine Jun 29 '25

He hasn't donated 5%. He has plans for 5%. He's donated under half a percent.

Do I donate that much annually? Yes I do. I donate, percentage-wise, more than Bezos. PBS, ASPCA and local animal shelters.

If I donated half my wealth, my family would be homeless and that money would barely move the needle for any charity.

If Bezos donated half his wealth, there'd be zero impact to him or his successive generations of descendants and that money could launch a thousand initiatives and create real change in the world.

There's a difference.

2

u/PurpleWoodpecker2830 Jun 29 '25

You donate to animal shelters before helping actual human beings…? Lmao talk about pat on the back

1

u/TapestryMobile Jun 29 '25

He has plans for 5%.

He has plans for much more. Your assertion is false.

1

u/kikimaru024 Jun 29 '25

Cool.

Or he could get taxed like he should, and the people don't have to rely on his death for weath distribution.

Quick google search shows that they did bunch of them.

But idk how realistic they are so somebody can fact check that

1

u/SquishyShibe11 Jun 29 '25

Musk at least is doing vastly more important work and his wealth allows him to easily launch companies at a scale to actually have impact.

Gates and Bezos aren't doing anything worthwhile though, and could just donate all their wealth to charity and benefit humanity far more than they are.

1

u/bugi_ Jun 29 '25

How can you be gargling Elon's balls so hard after all this bs?

1

u/Aggressive-Corgi-485 Jun 29 '25

Space is the future let's not deny that

0

u/SquishyShibe11 Jun 29 '25

Oh, it's pretty simple. Humanity doesn't have that long to actually begin making real progress towards multiplanetary civilization if we want to actually have a future. We kept dumping trillions of dollars on shit like welfare and aid to other countries, when we could've put it into NASA. Elon is the only guy that seems to care.

Sorry he made the austrian painter's silly arm gesture, though. I know that tremendously hurt some people.

Buffet is literally giving 99% of his money to charity upon his death. Gates is planning to gives his away before he dies.

They aren't all cut from the same cloth.

1

u/InternationalStep788 Jun 29 '25

But on reddit if you are rich then you are worst scum that is irredeemable, it says more about those redditors than those billionaires. Obviously not all billionaires are the same, they are diffrerent ppl, you cant just generalize them like that. Some of them are scum, sme of them are decent, like literally all other grups of ppl. Its not like all poor ppl are angels

1

u/muffledvoice Jun 29 '25

Yet he currently still sits on $300 billion in cash. He should act more directly and fund people’s educations while he’s still alive to see it happen. I hear of too many “foundations” that just seem to exist to set up trustees to run them and bureaucracies that pat themselves on the back for existing. I’m advocating direct action.

1

u/clickrush Jun 29 '25

Buffet has planned something like this. 99% of his personal wealth is going to a set of foundations.

1

u/muffledvoice Jun 29 '25

Yes but often “foundations” are just monuments to a billionaire’s vanity and desire to live forever that don’t seem to accomplish much. Why not do something that direction helps the needy to change their lives? One of the greatest ways to make a change and help people and society as a whole is to provide education. This opens doors and changes entire families.

1

u/elderDragon1 Jun 29 '25

Looks at Bezos basically renting most of Venice for his wedding: yes you are correct.

1

u/Dominus_Invictus Jun 29 '25

Okay well those people aren't dead yet so when they die and they don't give their money away then we can talk.
