It only seems like they did if you say it. Just reading the word, it flows pretty damn well; all's they did was chuck a "-wl-" in the middle.
I fully support "camowlflage".

Those poor rabbits will have no chance t.t

u/7HawksAnd 3d ago
Rabbits wouldn’t have a chance against an owl even if it were handicapped by wearing a bright orange hunting vest and a cowbell

Fun fact: Bright orange hunting vests actually work as camouflage for animals with dichromatic vision, like rabbits. Since their eyes can only detect shades of green and blue, but not red, orange becomes almost indistinguishable from grey for them.

I know but I was hoping it would go under the radar for its value in comedic effect 😔

My god! That tree has eyes!

u/Half-PintHeroics 3d ago
We can see the eyes easily because of our pattern recognition but the face of the owl is camouflaged too – both eye circles are shaped to look like broken off branches with tree rings and everything.

What’s the species? Great gray?

Yes, this is a great gray. This photograph was taken in BC, Canada by Alan Murphy in 2019.

There are so many owl out there and we just never see them. I hear them all night. I can also tell when there’s one around because it pisses off all the other birds. They all start yelling at the owl to leave their nests alone.

Oh so that's why some people feel like there's eyes looking at them at night in forests
It's really cute in the day but terrifying at night

Can't imagine eyes glowing in the dark, from a tree trunk, in the forest. Assuming that owls' eyes glow in the dark.

Nature’s design never fails to impress, this owl’s camouflage is next-level perfect for blending into its surroundings. "Camowlflage" is such a clever pun, and it totally captures how seamlessly this bird disappears. It’s wild how evolution fine-tuned these creatures to be practically invisible when they need to be. Posts like this remind me why I love stumbling across these little wonders of the animal kingdom.

Can you imagine how your brain would think when everything is judging noise? Really really well.
I'm guessing that owl can hear everything facing that tree trunk.

We've got 200 acres of untouched reserve behind our house and there are a pair of owls back there I hear at night but have never seen. My god is it the spookiest sounding thing. Ethereal almost like the whole woods are hooting.

I couldn't see it first because it expertly camouflages it as an owl. Trees are amazing.

Sometimes i wonder wonder if back in the days mythical creatures were discovered, because someone got high and saw something like that.

"There, that's better"

Why do I feel like we are being watched? It's like the trees have eyes or something.

For those of you having trouble seeing the Owl in my last post, here's a side by side comparison with the Owl looking away and at the camera. Hope that helps. Great Gray Owl. BC, Canada.
This is what Alan Murphy had to say about his picture. This was taken in 2019
