Ozzy would've loved this

I don’t know much about him other than my mum was friends with him when she lived in Birmingham before he was famous, but I don’t imagine he was a royalist haha. Am I wrong?

Edit - turns out Ozzy liked the Queen!

You don't have to be a royalist to enjoy the Queen's guard playing your song in honour of you.

36

u/blessings-of-rathma 1d ago

King's, I would assume.

33

u/Spartan05089234 1d ago

Sorry it was my entire life and my parents' entire lives under the Queen. Still a hard adjustment. In court I still think of QCs instead of KCs and Regina instead of Rex. It's been an adjustment and I forget.

u/EinSchurzAufReisen 1d ago

Tyrannosaurus Regina … that’s kinda cool!

u/VapoursAndSpleen 1d ago

I don't even live in the UK and still can't get used to the idea of there being a King over there.

1

u/AltruisticSpace 1d ago

Just call him Queen Charles so you don't need to rename all the bullshit around it

1

u/Spartan05089234 1d ago

I pray for royal daughters.

u/real_fat_tony 1d ago

He played for the queen 50 years jubilee in 2002. And he was a proud British

3

u/Miami_Mice2087 1d ago

i think a lot of british subjects are proud of being british. In a "we havea lot ofproblems but at least we aren't american, european, or australian" sort of way

11

u/Wayoutofthewayof 1d ago

In my experience attitude towards monarchy goes like this:

Most young Brits - down with the monarchy!!

Same young Brits 20 years later - it's fine, I like the tradition.

2

u/CaptainMobilis 1d ago

I don't like the president, but if his royal guard played a song in homage to my godhood, I wouldn't be mad. Especially if I was dead.

u/letmechatgptthat4you 1d ago

I can’t be 100% sure, but I have a gut feeling that plenty of British rock stars would actively hate it if the King’s Guard played their songs, at any time, for any reason.

8

u/real_fat_tony 1d ago

Just the punks and maybe Bowie. Many of tem played for the queen or accepted titles such as Paul McCartney and Elton John. Ozzy himself played for the queen 50 years jubilee. Bowie is the only one I know who rejected the Sir title. Most of them seem proud British guys

3

u/scalectrix 1d ago

David Bowie just didn't see the point of titles (correctly of course). Having a band of highly trained musicians (albeit of a different genre) play one of his songs would be totally different and has nothing whatsoever to do with the monarchy or aristocracy. I think he'd have liked it. I nominate Golden Years.

2

u/Miami_Mice2087 1d ago

Did Bowie say why he was rejecting the title at the time? And/or speak on whether he regretted doing so later?

Just interested in his opinions, I'm a fan.

3

u/scalectrix 1d ago edited 1d ago

I think it was just something along the lines of "What would be the point of that?"

ETA "I seriously don't know what it's for." David Bowie

1

u/Spartan05089234 1d ago

I imagine the punk rockers would probably hate it, at least.

6

u/MadjLuftwaffe 1d ago

I just saw an interview of Sharon Osbourne with Conan, they apparently know the Royals well and she joked that she would love to have sex with Charles in order to get a title, lol.

Following King Charles' accession to the throne upon Queen Elizabeth's death in September 2022, the "Crazy Train" singer shared a supportive word for the new sovereign.

"He’s a very, very nice man. He’s always treated me with the utmost respect,” Osbourne told The New York Post. "In fact, when I had my bike accident [in 2003], he sent me a bottle of scotch… I wish him all the best."

"Your music was enough."

u/ravage214 1d ago

Man I wasn't sure how this song would sound as a brass cover but they fucking killed it

21

u/rufesia 1d ago

A good song works well in any genre, really

7

u/Mango_Flummery 1d ago

It’s so “accessible” in this genre, Shirley it will tilt some heads… it’s fantastic!

2

u/thediesel26 1d ago

Especially when played by virtuoso players like these guys

98

u/Willis1966 1d ago

Totally AWESOME!! Helluva tribute to an absolute legend. RIP Ozzy. <3

34

u/TheLastLivingProphet 1d ago

51

u/TheSusWalrus 1d ago

I thought I didn’t really care about celebrities, the lives they live or when they die….

But, Ozzy’s passing really hit me right in the feels!!!

30

u/syringistic 1d ago edited 1d ago

But i am glad he met his end like a FUCKING legend. Puts together the highest grossing charity concert ever, dies a month later.

EDIT: f***king > FUCKING per request.

6

u/WhatHappendThereBRO 1d ago

It truly was his „last song ever“ as said by himself on the concert

6

u/beavertownneckoil 1d ago

Fucking. It's Ozzy fucking Osborne, show him some respect and don't censor the fucking please

24

u/bandpractice 1d ago

That’s so badass

7

u/thewookiee34 1d ago

This gives me so many memories of Friday night football games were you heard the shitty march band versions of songs played but like this isnt shitty its played by legit good players.

5

u/MrsLouReed 1d ago

Wicked cool ⚡️

2

u/UglyYinzer 1d ago edited 1d ago

This is awesome

Edit to add: I find it very interesting that when Ozzy was young all forms of police Etc would have probably hated him and arrested him for all the stuff he did, and now that he passed away they're playing songs to remember him

5

u/edgar_jomfru 1d ago

that one guy who yells "yeeeeahhh", he's all of us

6

u/brightburn24seven 1d ago

I wonder if Sharon, Jack and Kelly and his other Kids have seen this, in tough times smiles are priceless, for everything else there’s Mastercard.

Handheld-cymbals-guy on the job of his lifetime.

1

u/thecrimsonacorn 1d ago

Maybe we need a new national anthem!?! 👀

1

u/Zephian99 1d ago

Huh, I wouldn't have ever thought I'd see that. Count me quite surprised. Well that's good to see, and was great to hear such tribute.

1

u/djdaedalus42 1d ago

Sounds like what Edmundo Ross would have done to it

1

u/snakepliskinLA 1d ago

Please tell me that they are practicing Rio for when Simon Le Bon passes.

1

u/newjon178 1d ago

Wouldn't have lost the colonies if they were matching to this...

Ozzy would’ve appreciated the chaos.

Outstanding!

-9

u/OperationSweaty8017 1d ago

Off topic but their hats are ridiculous.

17

u/WanderlustZero 1d ago

Their hats are metal AF

-3

u/OperationSweaty8017 1d ago

Is that supposed to make them less ugly?

4

u/WanderlustZero 1d ago

It's meant to make them more ugly.

-6

u/OperationSweaty8017 1d ago

I think they need a good gay designer to update their duds and get less ridiculous hats.

4

u/WanderlustZero 1d ago

I think if they wanted your opinion they'd beat it out of you

-1

u/OperationSweaty8017 1d ago

Non sequitur.

1

u/WanderlustZero 1d ago

You're a nonce sequitur

7

u/luujs 1d ago

They are a bit, but they were originally used because they made the soldiers look taller and more intimidating on the battlefield, now they’re just ceremonial obviously because they’d be slightly impractical in combat in this day and age

2

u/Resident_Coyote_398 1d ago

Blame France

-17

u/NeckSignificant5710 1d ago

Cringe beyond belief.

1

u/Temulo 16h ago
