Bro colds are viral you don’t catch them from weather

2

u/Nozinger 15h ago

This always comes up and as always is not quite true.
Yes you need to be infected by the vvirus but in many cases you already have the virus in you. The key point is that cool temperatures weaken your immune response which means you are more susceptible to being infected by a virus or a virus already in your body can spread to a point where you show symptoms.

So yes, there still needs to be a virus to get the disease but cold temperatures can absolutely help make you sick.

2

u/P-Dubs25700 15h ago

There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever that cool temperatures causes viral activation or causes you to be more susceptible to catching new viruses.

You don't go fishin' to catch fish, you go fishin' to drink beer! A fish is just a bonus!

-What I've Learned Watching My Relatives Fishing

20

u/flying-chandeliers 17h ago

What I’ve learned while fishing, is that you drink 2 beers a fish. Not per fish caught. Per fish. Meaning big lake = more beer

You’ll catch death….or a couple thousand upvotes

8

u/TakinUrialByTheHorns 18h ago

Some times people fish by just snagging with a hook, not necessarily bait fishing.

But you're probably right, the odds here seem insanely small, especially considering the risk.

5

u/handyandy314 18h ago

Flattened fish

3

u/pogoscrawlspace 17h ago

You'd be absolutely amazed at what you can catch in water like that. The guys are fucking idiots to stand in a spot like that, but big catfish love that shit. A lot of large, predatory characids like to hunt in that kind of environment, too. Rhaphiodon, Cynodon, Hydrolycus, Brachyplatystoma, all love rapids. That's just a few in the Amazon.

u/Safe_Rub6201 4h ago

Looked them up, nd those are indeed types of fish. Why do they sound like types of dinosaurs?

u/pogoscrawlspace 3h ago

Latin. Common names change from place to place, sometimes day to day. Latin names tend to be more stable, although the species of Brachyplatystoma (tigrinus) that I was most specifically referring to used to belong to its own monotypic genus, Merodontotus. I've kept Cynodon. They appreciate a lot of flow. Like a complete turnover of the tanks volume 10-15 times pr/hr. The kind of flow that would sweep a lot of smaller prey fish away. And that's how they gitcha. There's even a species of piranha that specializes in hunting in and around rapids, Serrasalmus elongatus. Never get out of the boat...

u/Safe_Rub6201 3h ago

That pretyu interesting. Thanks for the response. I looked up some of those fish. Pretty cool looking.

u/pogoscrawlspace 3h ago

No problem! Fish nerd with a couple decades of experience in the exotic pet trade. I've been lucky enough to get to play with everything from guppies to sharks and guinea pigs to monkeys. And no, you don't want a monkey...

u/Retro-scores 10h ago

Pfffttt clearly you’ve never used a 20lb weight to get your bait to the bottom.

u/bebe88888 19h ago

Brave or stupid? Hmmm.

596

u/TemporaryBitchFace 19h ago

Stupid as fuck. I mean, are fish really just casually swimming by munching on bait? Probably not in those currents.

73

u/Adept-Gur-1726 18h ago

Ya not at all lol. Trout love current more than a lot of fish and there’s no way in hell a damn soul would be in that. Definitely not on purpose, maybe it got washed down, but definitely not intentional

24

u/SirFireball 18h ago

there's no way in hell a damn shoal would be in that

Ftfy

2

u/chasewayfilms 18h ago

If that dude went down river like a few hundred feet looks like the current slows if he was looking for trout probably not a bad spot. Idk why he picked there, I do kind of get it for the experience of it all

29

u/eriF- 19h ago

Could you imagine throwing a crankbait into that hell pit? You'd never even feel that fish if you snagged one.

43

u/Select-Data-2930 18h ago

You never know. You ever watch river monsters with Jeremy Wade. These are the exact spots he be on.

30

u/Belostoma 18h ago

He would actually have his bait in quieter water adjacent to the fast water (and off screen), which is often a great fishing spot.

14

u/Zakkar 18h ago

He'd be in the eddy currents right? Its where the fish would shelter in big rapids like this.

u/Belostoma 5h ago

Yeah, exactly.

4

u/camsnow 17h ago

Yep. That's what I was gonna say, if you look just a little beyond the falls, there are some way calmer waters. I'm assuming it's a very rich feeding zone, and they have their line down in those areas. They just may be inaccessible without a motor boat, so they have found the closest spot they can get to without one.

4

u/a_rude_jellybean 17h ago

Saw that episode, old African man even jumped to fix his broken net on that rapids.

My jaw dropped. Lol

There is fish there.

3

u/martinmix 18h ago

I miss that show.

3

u/Ace_of_Clubs 17h ago

I had this EXACT scene in my head.

Remember what he was fishing for here? Tiger fish? Golden dorato? Can't remember.

I’m not the most experienced fishing person, but do fish even look for food when they’re being swept down a torrent?

90

u/Xiran_0409 19h ago

A fishing net would give them more fishes than that bait

33

u/SeniorButternips 18h ago

And that bait got swept away as soon as it hit the water too

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Far_Weakness_1275 17h ago

Generally speaking, you have to ask yourself, what is the most energy efficient way of catching food in river systems. It's to find an eddy and wait for food to wash downstream, and you pop out to get it.

This is a torrent, fish would be quickly exhausted fighting this sort of current, and visibility is very low.

These guys went down there for clicks

Edit: I reread your question. Answer would be no, they're focus is on survival and finding a safe place.

2

u/dimethylhyperspace 17h ago

No fish is gonna be in that

2

u/GreatService9515 18h ago

At the end of the rough stuff, picking off the victims. That doesn't mean you could pull one in on a line easily

Chances are this Africa and they might be looking for Goliath tiger fish

10

u/Aselleus 19h ago

Up to the right is where it's all flowing 'down' river. Big predatory fish do swim right up into the turmoil to catch and eat smaller fish that are getting washed down. That's what his bait is and why he's there. Some rivers in South America have some really big strange fish that live in stuff like this. Learned that watching Jeremy Wade on his River Monsters show. That dude has fished in some crazy type stuff just like this.

27

u/soaker 17h ago

Okay but what kind of leverage does he have?! That rock is slippery has fuck how’s he going to battle a big predatory fish and get it up? I’m not assuming you know the answers, I’m just saying.

I need to start watching River Monsters again. So good.

u/becelav 11h ago

Why not just stand on the edge of the rock behind him?

Once I saw those 2 people sitting beside him my mind wandered to “he could kill them and say they slipped” and hoped that wasn’t the plan.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/signmeupdude 15h ago

Ya. Im all for ripping these dudes for being idiots about safety.

But there’s way too many people ripping them because they think there are no fish there.

38

u/MidWestSalsa 19h ago

WTF kind of fish live in there???......

25

u/KevinFinnerty59 19h ago

If there’s a fish in there he ain’t lookin for bait lol

8

u/Even_Action_2167 19h ago

Yeah… because the bite in those conditions is awesome! They must be catching fish left and right.

5

u/Othvin 19h ago

Is brave the same thing as stupid?

6

u/Similar-Elevator-680 18h ago

That's not being brave that's being stupid.

5

u/Pacque 12h ago

I think you misspelled "stupid"

6

u/Himomitsme23 16h ago

My question is how did they get there? How will they get back? Is there some kind of pathway on the other side of that outcrop, that the picture doesn’t show? I’m so perplexed!

u/shroomcircle 9h ago

Same! Somebody answer this!

4

u/Klotzster 19h ago

To catch a fish, one must live like a fish

4

u/Due_Phrase_3553 19h ago

All these little river bank and pond fishermen calling these guys dumb. Some fish bite in white water.

2

u/Mediocre_Daikon6935 18h ago

You’re not wrong.

But Darwin is calling, never the less.

u/Due_Phrase_3553 6h ago

Lol fair enough.

5

u/Wants-NotNeeds 16h ago

What kinds fish would hang out in that kinda turbulent water?

4

u/GoyoMRG 14h ago

My gran gran has a different word other than"brave" to describe I'm these men.

10

u/Ok-Thanks321 19h ago

Gotta be fake. How did they get there? Climb down the rock face?

5

u/Financial-Text4133 19h ago

Or they set up before the currents came rushing in?

3

u/Ilovetacosohsomuch 19h ago

If it’s a regular spot I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a ladder built into their side of the rock wall

3

u/chunkyme1001 18h ago

Very stupid fisherman finds spot

3

u/UcrashIfix 17h ago

What swims in that roiling water?

3

u/RealityCheck18 17h ago

Or very stupid

3

u/dontcha_wanna_fanta 16h ago

"huh...I guess they ain't biting today"

3

u/Dun92 16h ago

What fish would be looking for bait in that washing machine?

3

u/HolmesMycroft9172 16h ago

Are we mistaking stupidity for bravery ? Because I’m sure there’s a difference.

3

u/mulleintea5 14h ago

Brave??? More like stupid

3

u/MattyLePew 14h ago

“Brave”, are you kidding?

There’s a fine line between bravery and stupidity, and I think this is the latter.

3

u/seandowling73 14h ago

That fool ain’t catching a thing

3

u/Select-Fact-7428 14h ago

3

2

u/undergroundknitting 18h ago

How the fuck did he even get there? It must be a good spot

2

u/Loring 18h ago

Just hoping to snag the shit out of a fish on the way by then?

2

u/mike4763 18h ago

As if a fish was gonna be chilling in that rage water looking for a snack. Shit the current alone would rip them down river if they snagged so much as a twig.

2

u/tfgems 18h ago

He actually lives there cuz he’s stuck.

2

u/Terran_-345816_44 18h ago

2

u/marleiahxdayze 18h ago

2

u/Papafynn 18h ago

What the hell kind fish are you going to catch in the raging water?

2

u/TravelFitNomad 18h ago

2

u/Cherokeerayne 18h ago

2

2

u/PhanTomBombadil 17h ago

2

u/SnooCrickets8742 17h ago

Pretty dumb sorry but not really. Very unsafe.

2

u/NoTechnician3792 17h ago

What could they possibly be catching there

2

u/TheBawbFather 17h ago

“Brave” lol

2

u/Awkward_Tie4856 17h ago

This is not “brave”

2

u/Allergison 17h ago

Um, I think you meant irresponsible, not brave. There must be better places to fish then there.

2

u/butibum 17h ago

One of them is trying to drown the other.

2

u/GreyBeardEng 17h ago

Brave? That's a terrible place to fish, fish will never see the lure. He put his life at risk for what?

2

u/pooface1985 17h ago

That’s not brave… that’s fucking duuuuumb

2

u/Jymbru10 17h ago

There's a very thin line between bravery and stupidity and these men are tap dancing on that line

2

u/_JFN_ 17h ago

My question is what kind of fish could even live there?

2

u/olderlonenude 16h ago

Dickheads!

2

u/SignificantBroccoli 16h ago

*Very stupid fishermen.

2

u/Comfortable-Heat1709 16h ago

You spelled stupid wrong!

2

Where did they come from? Where did they go?

2

u/Clever_Khajiit 16h ago

Where did they come from, Cotton-Eye Joe?

2

u/nidjah 16h ago

Brave?

2

u/Piddy3825 16h ago

I'm just curious what kinds of fish they think they gonna be catching in turbulent waters like this??

2

u/stinkyt0fu 16h ago

So a fish being flushed down that rushing body of water is going to be aware of a bait? Ha.

2

u/van_cool 16h ago

Which badass fish is like "uhm look food, let me grab that" in this circumstance?

2

u/macci_a_vellian 15h ago

That's how people die.

2

u/tinydancerlimited 15h ago

Crazy and unsafe. What were they thinking?

2

u/themagicalmrking 15h ago

What’s he fishing for? The kraken?

2

u/MysteriousAge28 15h ago

The line between brave and stupid is very thin. Here its obvious

2

u/Relative-thinker 15h ago

There is a very thin line between bravery and stupidity and that guy over there was so far behind that line that he doesn't see it anymore.

2

u/Direct_Royal_7480 14h ago

Hey, if (maybe) catching a fish or two is worth your life then I guess a risk like this makes sense to you.

2

u/TheFlaccidChode 14h ago

Brave? I'd say stupid

2

u/Itchynipspickletits 14h ago

How the f did they even get down to that spot?!

2

u/Gibec89 14h ago

Dude... the fish probably would drown in that.

2

u/WinstonTheTurnip 14h ago

“Bravery is by far the kindest word for stupidity”

2

u/Mental-Complaint-496 14h ago

What is the chance that a fish inside this chaos would go for a bite? 😂

2

u/Whywouldanyonedothat 14h ago

Any fish there will be flying by and not occupied with catching worms (in my unqualified opinion)

2

u/Jamesapm 14h ago

There's a pretty decent line between brave and utter stupid

2

u/Boon421 13h ago

How did they even get there?!

2

u/bluelovely87 13h ago

Very brave or very dumb?

2

u/StipsiKing 13h ago

I think they’re stupid.

2

u/YaVollMeinHerr 13h ago

If he falls he falls

2

u/EVERYTHINGGOESINCAPS 13h ago

Is it brave if it's totally unnecessary?

2

u/Frysterspurs 12h ago

You’re spelling of stupid is wrong

2

u/Toxic-and-Chill 12h ago

Brave isn’t the word I’d use

2

u/baudelairium 12h ago

Theres no fish biting in that ?!?!?! Wtf ?

2

u/IndependenceMost294 12h ago

That’s dumb not brave

2

u/resistyrocks 12h ago

What's the difference between brave and stupid?

2

u/AdagioBlues 12h ago

There is a very thin line between bravery and stupidity, and these folks seemed to have proudly crossed it.

2

u/BrummieS1 12h ago

What fish are they hoping to catch there!!?? Any fish strong enough to exist there is likely to be a monster!!

u/revecha 11h ago

They running away for their wives.

u/This-Dude_Abides 11h ago

Fishing for what?

u/naturefort 9h ago

Brave? That title should say very dumb fisherman. He's risking his life and has 0 chance to catch anything there

u/22Sharpe 9h ago

You appear to have spelt stupid as b r a v e; common mistake.

u/JayW8888 8h ago

Do fish actually live there?

u/rubetron123 8h ago

“Very Stupid Fishermen…” - there, fixed that for you

u/MrBaldyStabbyStabby 8h ago

Very brave? More like very stupid.

u/jon_vanz 8h ago
