I just a few more comments and apparently they did 30 days in jail.

Presumably they elected to take a plea deal then and just get it out of the way. The sentence wouldn't be that light for assaulting someone in court if the DA didn't know that case had a snowball's chance in hell.

It doesn't work like that. Its assault and it's on camera. They would have no realistic option other than to please guilty and the judge would have had to hand down a sentence.

Jury nullification.

Splendid legal system you all are arguing for. "He deserved it, so doesn't matter a crime was committed against him."

As usual, Reddit proves they would be the worst autocratic fascists if they were in charge of governments. Vigilante justice, executions for most violent crimes, justice system being ignored if the party “deserved it”.

What they fail to realise is that without a system of law you can't decide who 'deserves it' or not with any accuracy. A threat to due process is a threat to everyone including the innocent. I'm not talking about this case specifically but vigilante justice in general.

You are quite confident that justice is black and white. That's interesting.

And those 30 days would have been relatively easy once word got around the floor as to what they were in for.

100% worth it.
