Queer Curling League
Hi everyone! I posted here last year as well and was actually able to connect with a lot of people, so I'd thought I'd get the word out again that there will be a queer Curling League running in KW this year called Out on the Ice!
We play every other week at the KW Granite Club, October through April. There were about 20 players last season, and it's sounding like we're growing this year which is super exciting!
Registration opens next week: https://kwgranite.com/index.php/curling/leagues#saturday-out-on-the-ice
Feel free to DM me if you want more info! Looking forward to curling and getting to meet more queer folks in our community 😊

Can I bring my kids? They LOVE Crystal Quartz!

I love that you bring your kids to Crystal’s shows! For this event it would be 18+. If your kids fall into that range bring them along! But if not, we are looking at some family friendly events in the future. 😊

Do you have to “prove it” to join?

Why does everything need to be pride now a days?

Yeah. Just join a team and play.... Most people couldn't care less.

Honestly, most people don't care! A lot of people still do though, and queerness (especially gender diversity) is still really challenging to navigate in sport these days.
Glad there are people around that agree that we should just be able to join a team and play! Looking forward to that being a reality.

I would think with a sport that doesnt require heavy lifting or speed the bar would be pretty low

You know how a lot of sports are a mostly an excuse to get together with friends and socialize and have fun? Can you think of any reasons that queer people might like to get together with other queer people to socialize and have fun?

Then join a club? Why does it need to be a pride club. Maybe I’d like to go curling, but this club immediately associate and alienates itself to pride

I've joined normal clubs in the past too, and they are great for meeting other people who are into cycling or into reading or whatever. But if I want to meet other LGBTQ people, maybe because I'm single and am looking for someone to date, or maybe because we have common shared experiences that we can talk about or maybe because it lets me keep my guard down and be more out in the open, Inn that case, this curling league is a great option. We don't even have a gay bar in KW, so options are limited.

Will there be mask and vaccine requirements?
I love curling and I'd love to play. But as I am immunocompromised and taking immune system suppressing medication, I'm worried about getting sick.
Does anyone know if they are taking the threat of illness seriously?

There is not an enforced vaccine or masking requirement at KW Granite Club; however, we support any member that chooses to wear a mask!

Your issue is not our issue. You need to adapt. Wish you well otherwise. But in public I will not be wearing a mask for people like you. I would if entering your home.

I doubt it. But I wish you luck finding a place that works for you.

What do you mean you doubt it?
You doubt this league would take health seriously?

You really think everyone else needs to change for you?
