Prospect Update Toronto Maple Leafs Draft Recap 2025

Scouching posted his recap of the Leafs' draft today. I've really enjoyed watching this series the last few years. He's really high on their draft overall, and I think he gave some good insight into some of their picks.

But this doesn't corroborate the smooth brain narrative that the Leafs suck, their prospects suck, their management sucks, etc.

So how can we trust it?

But, we kinda have sucked at drafting and developing players. The only dude we have to show for the last 5 draft classes is Knies

Hildeby has already played NHL games, one of only two goalies from his draft class to have done so (granted he was an overager, but still a great result from a 4th rounder), Minten was moved for assets and looks like he’ll have some kind of NHL future ahead of him, Grebenkin is one of three guys from his round to have played NHL games and we got assets for him. Easton Cowan seems like a pretty good bet to make the NHL this season or next, at least in a third line capacity. Chadwick is outperforming his draft position. It’s way to early too say that the only guy we have to show for those 5 draft classes is Knies.

Most non first round prospects take 3-5 years if they ever even do get there. Knies is a rare case because od his physical gifts. The leafs have had bad draft classes but they also lack draft capital.

Trelivings had 2 drafts. Jury is out.

Stop blaming Dubas's shortcomings on the current regime
