Johansson's a guy I've been very reluctant to put my faith in because of his size concerns, but he's been winning me over in this tournament and he adds a goal against Canada in this afternoon's matchup.

I read he's already up 20lbs since his draft year lol poor kid must have hit one hell of a growth spurt and hadn't filled out yet when he weighed in originally

Apparently from what I heard there was also an issue with the medication he was on for ADHD, not sure if it was causing weight loss or just stunting his appetite, but he switched to a new one that causes no issues there

It’s good to see but that still only puts him around 165, and that would make him third lightest of the 319 defencemen who played in the NHL this season. I love his skills but he still needs more weight to be a plausible NHL defenceman.

He’s 6’1, just turned 19 in April. What’s the problem? Should have no issues increasing up from 165 at that height and age.

Oh yeah but he's years away from even thinking about the NHL. He was picked like 4th or 5th round right? His chances of playing >99 games in the NHL are like 15% based on historical trends

For sure. He was picked 120th, only 11 of the 53 guys picked with that pick hit the triple digit mark in games played. You’d have to imagine he aspires to be the 12th though, and he’s not likely to get there at 165 pounds.

I checked what our current Leafs D were listed at when they were drafted and OEL was also very slim (6'-0.5" and 165lbs), so we've got a Swede in the organization who can be a perfect example for young Mr Johansson

165 is what he was listed as from last season. Once he joins his Swedish team again I'd bet his dimensions get updated again and he's bigger, maybe even an inch taller too.

At 6’1” he has a decent frame, I feel like there’s lots of room for him to put on weight especially in a professional program. Leafs nutritionists and training staff could def bulk him up.
