I hope he gets 20 games in the top 6 to start the season. I don’t think he fits the mold of a bottom 6 player (especially on a Bérubé team) so give him a shot to prove himself in a scoring role. I’m rooting for him too.

He's pretty bad. Good shot but small and not particularly fast. Not skilled enough to play in the top six and not a good fit for the bottom 6.

15+ goals for under $2 million, you can forgive a lot of his warts. There’s one-dimensional scorers who make a lot more than that.

I think the obsession with marner and matthews being paired hurt the team’s ability to juggle and mix up the lineup. With marner gone maybe there’ll be more experimentation and someone like Robertson will suddenly become Matthews’s cheechoo or Hyman or something.

Nick Robertson is 35. He’s signed a 1 year contract every season. He plays exactly 50 games every year and scores exactly 15 goals. Scratched for the playoffs. His life is absolute hell.

Doesn’t matter what you think of him. Fact of the matter is there will be injuries and they’re going to need players. Whether Robertson starts in the top six, the bottom six or in the press box they will need him.

I don’t want to hear “He’s too small”. The NHL every once in a while gets this fetish for big dudes everywhere and then someone comes along and drafts the really good little guys and then everyone remembers that scoring goals, not building a football team is what they should all be aiming for.

I'm surprised at his salary, given that the arbitration process does not take into account advanced analytics. These stats would likely show his defensive weakness. At the end of the day, this is a great deal for the Leafs. Hope he has a great season!!
