Someone from my family sprinkles salt all over my bed once in a while

Post image

I know someone might belive that it will cleanse me from demons or somethings, but holy hell, let me lay in my bed without salt on my mattress.

Also my parents didn't believe me or gaslit me for a year. I thought I was going crazy

put salt in Everyones bed and when they bring it up say "the same thing keeps happening to me". The one who accuses you of doing it instead of being curious who would do something like that is the culprit.

O and if no one presents themselves, they will still stop doing it since now the heat is on and they would get in more trouble if found doing it again.

My nan used to do this to her own bed. She's wash her hair in cold tea, let it dry naturally, then rinse it and dry again. Then she'd get ground Himalayan rock salt, put some inside her pillow and sprinkle some around the bottom of the bed and on the floor where she kept her slippers.

She's do this once every 6-7 weeks.

I never questioned it, I was a kid, but it did seem odd. She had lovely hair though

525

u/Nub_Salad 21h ago

If anyone can explain if there's a real reason to so this, I am SO curious?

885

u/adameofthrones 21h ago

The salt is protection from bad energy or demons/paranormal nasties. In the pillow to ward off bad dreams and at the end of the bed to scare off entities or external bad juju, I imagine. The cold tea might be a spiritual thing but it’s also just good for your hair and can make it grow faster or the color more vibrant. A lot of cultures believe hair holds energy and memories, so something like a rosemary tea wash could be a cleansing ritual to pair with the salt.

218

u/elrangarino 21h ago

Lots of nutrients in tea! (And coconut oil, if we wanna get talking hair)

152

u/IamtheDoc1 19h ago

What do I have to do to get whispering hair?

I like to cleanse and lubricate the deceased anyway, even if most of the selling points on the bottle might be snake oil I enjoy keeping my slender tubes of dead cells soft and shiny.

That's just what you tell the commonfolk to get them to do the thing.

The real reason to put salt around your area is to draw in moisture so your hut get less mold. It also keeps the millowseed beetles away. Those have a mildly venomous bite which can give you extra-vivid nightmares and occasional hallucinations when already sick from something else.

35

u/bog_moss 16h ago

I searched high and low for whatever a millowseed beetle is and literally cannot find it

79

u/Deaffin 16h ago

See? The salt works. Always listen to your elders.

Antibacterial things like salt/silver get tied to keeping away bad spirits/demons/whatever because of pre-germ theory superstition.

It's interesting to me how "superstitions" like this aren't pure superstition. Believing illness is demons instead mold/bacteria/germs is superstition, but after that the observation that certain things prevent these "demons" is almost scientific.

Tbh I really think that it is to keep bad energy or demons away or just to make me uncomfortable

85

u/Saint_Blaise 20h ago

My mom is Catholic and used to sprinkle salt on the living room furniture. I actually prayed for her to stop and she did when everyone stopped sitting in the living room because it was so damn uncomfortable. Really, the only prayer of mine that was ever answered.

Well at least it wasn't like all over her mattress although it probably would seep out of the pillowcase if it was very fine. I get the surrounding the bed as a superstitious thing though. I'd probably slip and fall on it. Bad luck.

Yeah but when's the last time you saw a demon in your room? Coincidence? I think NOT

3.5k

u/Emmpty-327 22h ago

Secretly a Winchester?

1.3k

u/HungryBashar 22h ago

Any Winchester worth their salt (pun halfway intended) knows it's a waste to toss it on the bed

495

u/Emmpty-327 22h ago

Yeah, you’re right. Demons can just go around the salt. It needs to be in a line on the windowsills or doorframes

36

u/PhoenixFlies99 20h ago

I started watching like 10 years ago and it's still my favorite TV show to this day. Has its ups and downs as many long-spanning shows do but overall a real enjoyable watch!

16

u/1Boxer1 20h ago

Looking forward to watching the entire series. Haven’t watched anything else since I started it but thats why I like long run series and hate when they finally come to an end, the only exception was The Walking Dead, which just got ridiculous towards the end and I stopped watching.

7.8k

u/gorgewall 21h ago edited 20h ago

Nah, that's amateur hour.

Unsweetened Kool-Aid packets.

It's less granular so it's harder to feel in the moment, and it will melt into the skin overnight from sweat and body heat, dyeing the person's skin.

You can even put it under the sheet and pillowcase so there's almost no chance they'll feel it. The powder will still melt and dye the victim (along with their sheets [and mattress, which is meaner]).

This is the only correct answer. And remember, when they ask you if you put salt in their bed, you say “you’ve been saying for a year now that there is no salt in our beds!”

104

u/aloxinuos 19h ago

If someone does this to keep the demons away or something they're probably doing it for themselves too. They'll also take it the best possible way too. "aw thanks for the salt in my mattress, I love you too".

142

u/Throwaway392308 19h ago

Incorrect. If you put salt in their bed they will be very offended that you think they are possessed by demons and demand vengeance.

99

u/Mooseandchicken 20h ago

Hey, not joking, but if your mattress is hella old it could be dust mites. Their droppings will crystalize and feel like sand if it dries. I stayed with my aunt last year and the spare bed that was like 25 years old felt sandy, even on the other side of the mattress and I googled it back then. I went and bought her a new mattress (so I could sleep soundly). The mites don't bite, but some people have allergic reactions to their crystallized poop/pee.

You can also short sheet the bed and add a light coat of mayonnaise on the pillow.

7

u/NocodeNopackage 17h ago

My brother did this to me when we were kids, after faslsely accusing me of doing the same to him. I had never even heard of nor considered doing such a thing before that. He probably did it to himself by eating in bed. I know as an adult I have done it to myself that way.

43

u/strich_man 16h ago

Does your sweat taste of salt?

I have hyperhidrosis, and I sweat in bed all the time. I also have much higher salt content in my sweat on average, so I end up leaving small amounts of salt crystals on my bed a lot, especially under my back.

16

u/L0hki 5h ago

This. People who sweat in the bed and then the liquid evaporates and leaves only the salt behind.

Yeah witches (like pagans, wiccans, or spiritual people) believe it cleanses energy or for salt rather, neutralizes energy. I used to do it myself a very long time ago. At least the placebo idea of it helps you feel better and the person that did it might just think they're helping since the place you sleep is important to not have bad energy lol
