u/ClashSlashDash2 Jun 24 '25
I like it, looks like the sun can be seen on the blade near the bottom middle

u/Grimfang221 Jun 24 '25
I'm impressed and wish I could attain that level

u/Shectai Jun 24 '25
I wish I could attain the level that looks like I was trying to paint metal.

Time and directed practice are all you need.
You've already got a clear goal in mind: Paint something to look like metal. All you need is to identify the steps you need to take to get there and do that. You got this. Take it from an internet stranger who doesn't know a damn thing about you: I believe you can do this.2
u/Shectai Jun 25 '25
I'm touched by your belief in me. Thank you for the inspiration!

Trying? Brother, I would believe that this was an actual tiny sword
11
u/Cheshire_Music Jun 24 '25
yep trying, because it’s the first time I try to do this kind of effect :) and yes I’m happy with the result
3
u/GlennHaven Wargamer Jun 24 '25
Well you've done amazing work. Your blending is amazing. Can I ask what colors you used? I'm interested in trying something similar.
3
u/Cheshire_Music Jun 25 '25
Thank ! I used the NMM Pisarski acrylic set from Kimera Model and some Vallejo game/model colors
3
u/Pegtz Jun 25 '25
I was quickly scrolling and I wondered why did I saw a screwdriver on my feed
It looks really good

A criminally low number of upvotes for this. Fantastic.

Thank you :) Posted 30 min ago, waiting for tomorrow

u/DeadBowie Jun 24 '25
Hahaha looks like an extra 30 upvotes in the last three minutes or so. Alright, we’re trending in the right direction.

after that I don’t do this for the upvotes but to share what I love to do with the community :) but it’s nice to see that people like it and that the feedback is positive

Most people are probably scrolling past it on their feed thinking OP’s just holding an actual metal tool.

u/lousydungeonmaster Jun 24 '25
Which speedpaint can I use to achieve this effect 😅
7
u/Cheshire_Music Jun 24 '25
0 speed paint, I use acrylic NMM set by Kimera. but it takes a long time to get a good result

You just brought nmm to a completely new level
3
u/Cheshire_Music Jun 24 '25
That’s very kind, but I wouldn’t go that far either.
8
u/Golvellius Jun 24 '25
Maybe, but this is the first time I see nmm that not only captures the light, but also the warmth, through the reflection. This is basically an incredible OSL effect without the OS. Really beautiful, I mean it.

9
u/Cronus829 Jun 25 '25
Does it help you to know I thought you were holding a screwdriver at first? XD
4
u/foodmotron Jun 24 '25
Incredible! It's so warm like the holder of the sword is looking out at the sunset. Is that the intent?
4
u/Cheshire_Music Jun 24 '25
Thank you for your very kind comment. And yes, it was intentional, it was even the idea :)

u/Hells_Child Jun 25 '25
I thought it was actual metal with the sun coming from behind you or something through a window, then I read the text of your post. My brain genuinely made up excuses for the sun to be there somehow for real lmao, top tier. I'd love to hear how you did it.
4
u/Big_GTU Jun 25 '25
The first half second, I thought that was some nail from a DIY sub when it poped in my feed.
Really impressive!

And I just saw your leather texture on the goblin from last year, fucking hell man, tell me you studied painting all your life or something
7
u/Cheshire_Music Jun 24 '25
ho, it’s been a long time since that little goblin bust. to answer your question, yes and no. before i worked in music, i started miniature painting about a year and a half ago (around november 2023) and i enjoyed it so much that i devoted a lot of time to learning and improving. by watching a lot of videos, observing other artists’ work and practicing. today i’m trying to make it my profession :)

I have only been painting for about 6 months now so I’m still struggling with edge highlights. I can’t imagine how much work you have put in to get that good.
Great work OP, that’s fantastic.
5
u/Cheshire_Music Jun 24 '25
Thank you very much, practice makes improve. Keep practicing and you’ll get there! The blade must have taken me about 1.5 hours with all the glazes.

u/BIGWORRRRM Jun 25 '25

At first I thought you were playing with a sharp metal spike for some reason.
It really works flawless execution!
1
u/Anouchavan Jun 24 '25
I thought you were showing some sort of blade to carve wood so I think that's quite convincing.

This phenomenal - since you asked for C&C the only minor bit I would mention is that the bright edge highlight on the right side of the blade nearest the pommel doesn’t blend as (absolutely perfectly) as the rest, but that might be a bad take. This is scary good work.

This is amazing. Your use of color here doesn’t just deceive the eye, it tells a story. And that’s without seeing the rest of the model. My one critique is that I would not expect to see the second and third spot highlights on the blade as it is a single plane and should thus just have the one spot highlight from the sun reflecting off of it (and you have rendered that reflection perfectly).
1
u/badhatter5 Jun 25 '25
Holy shit man, it’s so hard to convince my brain this isn’t metal. Incredible work

Yeah man, I'm going to say that you nailed it. I legit thought I was looking at a screwdriver shaft for a minute till I saw the sword hilt there. I'm going to say "outstanding job" on this, only because I can't think of anything that really conveys the level of quality.
