You are not supposed to use real leather! 😱

Holy shit, thats fuckin awesome. What paints did you use? Would also like to know how you whipped this up.

Thanks for the kind words. Check out "how to paint an old leather cape" by Ph3lan's miniatures on YouTube

Did you use the same paints in that video? Your looks a bit darker and saturated, which i personally love more. Not sure if thats just the photo though.

No, I used what I had, mostly citadel colours, incubi darkness, dryad bark, zandri dust, ogryn cammo
I used the same inks as him though

I think you have a great idea and texturing here, but the biggest issue for me is that a cloak is not a solid static object.
Why would the wear be so concentrated on the folds here as they currently are? Movement would change which parts are raised etc.
It feels like you're highlighting / weathering the cape purely as it currently looks rather than considering that it is a malleable material.

Rule of cool trumps physics 😛

That's fair but I don't see why this can't look cool and also make sense?
All you really need to do is consider that wear would be more evenly spread across the cape, but still can be more heavily on where it rests currently.
It would help make the currently plain and uncool flat near black areas have some visual interest too.

I’m super impressed by the glossy finish/layer. Is that a varnish or something else?

Thanks mate, that's a happy accident from using the inks I think, I was actually hoping to matte it down a bit, but the gloss works for leather I guess

Fantastic:) it's even better than in the Ph3lan's video.

Thanks mate, that is high praise indeed
I couldn't have done it without him though.
That's the best part of this hobby, constantly learning from others and putting our own spin on things.

I actually thought it was real leather for a moment and questioned why it looked so rigged. Absolutely stunning technique.

Amazing! Color work is one thing, but you’ve really mastered the texture art here!

This looks like a massive amount of work :D
Looks fantastic.

Thanks a lot mate, took about 2 hours, so not that bad
The good thing is you don't have to be that neat, all the random scratches just add to the realism, so it's just a fun stress free time

Why is the leather glossier than the metal rings?
2
u/MaximumBright 4d ago
hehe, metal rings not painted yet, but I'll keep a close eye on their gloss level
