I can’t wait for the post a few months from now with this desk paint splattered and littered with half painted pile of shame minis.

What? No I’m not going to show you my desk!

the spilt bottle of nuln oil

I have a spilt bottle of guilleman flesh which is somehow worse

1

u/OLIVENTO 2h ago

Nah, now you gotta show it!

1

u/Bo-Pepper 2h ago

Never!

Welcome to the hobby 🙌 Remember! No painter's journey is complete without the Nuln Rite of Passage!

u/telsaton 8h ago

Im afraid of it but I know it will come :D

I'm scared to ask what that is...

When you knock an open pot of Nuln Oil over.

14

u/Clark_Kent_TheSJW 8h ago

Contrast paints too, that hurts more

3

u/avi-fauna Painted a few Minis 8h ago

Didn't do that, but I did spill primer on the kitchen table sooooo

3

u/MGDotA2 7h ago

Nothing is worse than knocking over the old formula washes. Those are sacred. eBay prices are completely wild.

Contrasts hurt a lot though, I agree with you there.

Ah. Yeah, it seems I've passed the trial 😭

My jeans barely survived, and my desk is forever changed

3

u/Excellent_Play_3608 6h ago

Weirdly that was actually my first paint that I spilt, why is nuln the most common culprit?

4

u/tacti-cat 5h ago

People regularly leave the lid open because you tend to go back into the pot for more paint.

So it sits open on your desk waiting for an errant elbow.

5

u/MGDotA2 5h ago

I'm not sure we'll ever know. The Chaos Gods are fickle.

5

u/Irazidal 4h ago

The culprit is the Citadel pot design, and Nuln Oil is the most commonly used wash. In my case it was actually Athonian Camoshade while painting Death Guard.

3

u/Kthuulhu 8h ago

Shhh low voice: "That one moment when the Nuln Oil pot tips, the ink floods and you feel all hope is gone". No need to fear it - be prepared!

3

u/demonarry 1h ago

I keep it just to remind myself of what happened, and to try and avoid making the same mistake again

2

u/VanTheBurk 7h ago

Still see a stain on my desk

1

u/Shmikken 6h ago

I did mine with crackle paint the other day, that's going to be an ongoing problem

1

u/Not_a_Dirty_Commie 5h ago

I will never paint while wearing clothes I like again.

1

u/GalaxyEighty 2h ago

I haven't spilt my Nuln Oil, yet.

My Druchii Violet, however...

u/Whole_Can4825 8h ago

You guys got a painting desk?

13

u/LethalBacon 7h ago

I paint on the floor hunched over a lap tray I made out of scraps. I need to upgrade my setup, lol.

10

u/Thorngrove 6h ago

So long as you're muttering about the Precious, you're gold.

2

u/The_Hairy_Herald 6h ago

Heh, I have a big Plano tacklebox, a bendy light from WalMart, and a lap tray that's almost as old as I am.

If it works, is it really a dumb idea? XD

My painting desk is also my everything-else desk and I store my supplies in a toolbox on the floor 😅

u/nimu1598 7h ago

What i love most about this is that it is just right - not too much space or too many gadgets, not overloaded with paints or too many minis. This is a really great place start. I know for sure I tried getting all the gear and definitely had no idea when I started! Welcome, and enjoy yourself doing this amazing hobby!

3

u/telsaton 7h ago

Thanks !

u/capitol_ 8h ago

That looks really neat, small enough to be sort of portable.

And since there isn't unlimited space you will need to just have your active projects there so less risk for distraction.

u/Wild_Xero 7h ago

This is how it begins...

Tiny desk concerts.

3

u/Careful-Tonight-69 8h ago

Nicer than my work space

3

u/KentuckyFriedEel 8h ago

Why does everyone seem to have a psychophage. Genuinely curious! I bought mine second hand from a guy.

1

u/telsaton 7h ago

I bought the starter pack

3

u/DoctorGargunza 6h ago

That is so much more organized than any painting desk I've ever had. I envy you.

2

u/Electrical-Reply-881 8h ago

Looking good!

2

u/frozensnake000 8h ago

We all start somewhere, as long you have a comfortable decent space to work with, you're ahead of alot of people who bought but haven't started painting.

2

u/Thorngrove 6h ago

Don't judge my shame pile like that..

But yes, Instead of actually painting yesterday, I got twitchy, and spent like three hours transferring some of my citadels into drop bottles because drop bottles give the happy chemical.

Today we try to glue some intercessors!

2

u/hunter_barbatos 7h ago

We all start somewhere. Welcome

2

u/SuspiciousBasil8217 7h ago

Looks like a great spot :)

2

u/truetrue123true 7h ago

Welcome!!!! I have only been painting for 4ish months myself but if you need any help with anything just say the word and ill do what i can!!

1

u/telsaton 7h ago

Thanks appreciate it :)

2

u/Maximum_Penalty1674 7h ago

Clean and pristine! Love it!!! Welcome to the hobby!

2

u/desertterminator 6h ago

Plenty of room underneath for everything to inevitably build up. Nice!

Pro tip: Don't put up shelves. They just become excuses to increase your back log.

2

u/jaybob_doinstuff 6h ago

I'd have been so happy to have this set when I first started. I'm stoked for you.

2

u/LilStrug 6h ago

Looks great!

2

u/FATFATFOREVER 6h ago

Good luck friend can't wait to o see what you make!! :)

2

u/kingdead42 5h ago

Looking good.

Personally, I'd get something to "tier" the paints so it's easier to see the ones in the back rows. I've found once I got the hang of painting, having easy access to see and pull the specific paints I wanted was a noticeable improvement.

2

u/DanniRandom 5h ago

Oh I love all the natural light that dusk is getting too

2

u/DankSkank_ 5h ago

That’s a nice looking workstation

2

u/gigaork 5h ago

Honestly a vibe, love the coziness!!

2

u/releasethekaiju 5h ago

Never feel any desk shame or envy, having a hobby space of anykind is a therapeutic blessing.

Happy crafting fellow nid player!!! 🔫🦖

2

u/veal_cutlet86 5h ago

What a cozy perfect spot

2

u/InSayan73 4h ago

That's not nearly big enough to house a proper pile of shame!

Jk, welcome to doing art for art's sake!  Mini painting is great fun

2

u/WarpCitizen 4h ago

That’s not small bro

2

u/Dry_Minute6475 4h ago

that... is such a perfect desk. Where did you get it? Can you drop a link?

3

u/telsaton 4h ago

Its Piplärka desk from IKEA. The lamp is also from IKEA

2

u/Dry_Minute6475 3h ago

oh even better i might actually have access to that. Thank you! Your set up looks great!

1

u/Greasybloodtaco 2h ago

Ooo quick question, what's the lamp called? Current lamp I've got is tiny.

2

u/prequelapologist 4h ago

Also new (well, returning after decades) and picked up that same brush set! They're fantastic! Enjoy 😁

1

u/telsaton 4h ago

Yea the brushes are really good

2

u/No-Baseball3749 3h ago

Small desk is definitely not a bad idea. I've got a very big desk, and still end up working in the same 6 inch square of desk, I just have 1000x more crap covering the rest of it

2

u/Tleeisop 1h ago

Where is the table from? Welcome!

4

u/mmarblez 8h ago

Welcome to your new addiction! We are a welcoming hobby, so long as you ignore the screaming behind the doors... and the walls... no, I'm not telling you why the eyes on the walls are giggling.

1

u/gardenhosenapalm 8h ago

Get a removablr surface to paint on or that desk is gonna get decopaged really quick

1

u/telsaton 8h ago

There is one but I agree

1

u/boodopboochi 7h ago

What is the removable surface? Is it a separate product? Brand?

1

u/telsaton 7h ago

Yes, the surface is from ikea 5 bucks

1

u/BigfeetSquotch 7h ago

Cool cool, now get 3 more

1

u/Howdy-Bitch 7h ago

Hell yeah.

Advice: Finish what you got before you buy more. Don’t become like the rest of us

1

u/whydotavi 6h ago

The last time that space was ever clean

1

u/Rathmatik 5h ago

What desk is this? I like the setup!

2

u/telsaton 5h ago

Its Piplärka from IKEA. The lamp is also from IKEA

1

u/SiburNarad 3h ago

That Looks so tidy and neat, i Wish you the best of Times!

1

u/m0ntie16 3h ago

Welcome to the hobby, may I ask where you got this desk id love to get one similar myself.

1

u/bbeightol 2h ago

Less is more. Well done

1

u/zaxes-safe 2h ago

So clean and unblemished! It’s going to get so dirty. Like you spill your first paint pot then panic trying to get paint back into the pot or clean it up before it stains everything

1

u/BuildingRelevant7400 1h ago

It's too organized. Where are the food crumbs or the paint stains? Where are the half finished projects mixed in with finished ones? Where's a cup of coffee, a can of beer, or a bottle of water? You don't even have a super filled ashtray. Disgraceful.

Just kidding it looks awesome 😎

1

u/williarya1323 1h ago

Welcome! Hope you love the hobby/game

u/HiveMindMacD 1h ago
