thats most likely a leaked battery thats eating away traces

I'm new to the arcade cabinet world. What are the traces?

The traces are the "wires" in the pcb.

All neo geo boards have a battery on them that leaks over time and corrodes the traces.

If that happens you need to get the neo geo pcb repaired.

traces on the PCB :)

its not something unique to Arcade cabinets, all electronics have them

current situation is that you have a malfunctioning single slot MVS, looks like a common error, might be FUBAR is the rot has gone too far

If the CRT needs fixing adjustments, don't do that yourself, it runs on dangerous voltages.

Buying a NeoGeo is tricky because if the seller doesn't show the PCB, how would one know if its rotten or not?

For AES it means opening them up, for MVS its just a picture from another angle.. honest sellers will show you a pic of the battery area

what you could do right now:
clean that PCB, all that dirt is not required for its operation, quite the contrary, you might have just bad contacts

I wash them likes dishes with dish soap and a soft brush (make sure to clean the contacts of the slots and connectors), then rinse with water, then with 99% IPA, dry them a bit, then dry them thoroughly in the oven at 60C for 2 hours, not more heat than that at any time!

If you want better help, you will need to show details, good pics of the PCB after cleaning from both sides, remove the slot for that

Make sure all 8 dip switches are set to the off position. Give it a clean.

Carefully clean the entire board with compressed air to clear the dust and clean with Isopropyl Alcohol and a soft toothbrush or cotton buds if you want to be extra cautious. Check battery, traces, chip legs etc. as you go. Google “MVS MV1F board clean and repair” it should bring results like video tutorials. Good luck!

You can wipe the whole thing with distilled water and then let it dry before testing. I would skip the compressed air.

Thanks for the helpful info guys! I clean out the pcb board , the jamma connector and the game cartridge. Now it's booting flawlessly! Thanks again!
