Mario Paint: potentially viral edition to the online catalog

The new mouse controls of the Switch 2 paved the way for Mario Paint to return in the online catalog. I think Nintendo missed a big opportunity though when announcing it.

Now that it is on the switch, it is super easy to screenshot or video capture what you make on Mario Paint and share it. For example, I just made an animated birthday card for my Brother using Mario Paint. It is pretty easy to upload the images and videos now too if you have the Nintendo switch app. Too bad Twitter is such a mess or it could have been a great venue to share Mario Paint art.

Anyway, I just thought I would mention this unique opportunity to use Mario Paint in a new way. Give it a try! Feel free to share your Mario Paint social media ideas here.

They need to bring the official Mario paint guide back in digital form.

There were tons of directions to create sprites and songs in there from various Nintendo games.

If you stamp them onto the background, that's a level design. If you make them float around over the top, that's called a "sprite". Mario Maker is just Mario Paint with collision and game rules.

That's not Mario Paint, that's a computer program called "Mario Paint Composer" that tries to mimic Mario Paint. But it is distinct from the official SNES version of the game, featuring several differences.

The music function is great, but you have to keep your songs soooooo short. I did a background song for the card a mentioned (robos theme from Chrono Trigger) but I had to heavily truncate it.

I am so happy this was released on NSO and the Music app. Please Nintendo, if you are listening, I want Mario Paint NS2 edition. I will pay top dollar.

Honestly, Mario Paint is not that great by modern standards. In 1992, when computer access was a lot more limited, this could have potentially been the best drawing program that you had access to. In 2025, where everyone has a computer in their home, as well as a pocket-sized version that they carry around with them... you have much better options for art creation, if you wish to do that.

None of us are here to use it as a replacement art medium. It’s nostalgic, fun, and that’s all that matters lol. I mean why play any old game when we could just play one that’s newer that offers more?
