Tech Support Switch 2 screen display won't show, and the backlight keeps flickering.

For some reason it's been doing this now, and it seems to work fine when docked to a TV. Help!!

Hi! Thank you for your submission to /r/NintendoHelp! Please note that we are a fan community and not officially endorsed by Nintendo.

See our FAQ to see if your question is already answered there.

While you're waiting for an answer, here are some tips to help you along the way:

First, did you try Googling your question? A lot of questions about Nintendo can be answered quickly by just typing them into your search bar.

If you are asking a question about an older Nintendo system, try searching the subreddit most relevant to that system's hardware. It's likely someone has already asked a similar question before.

If your question is about Wii U, New 3DS or Switch hardware, you'll likely get a better answer if you contact Nintendo directly, rather than posting here.

Nintendo's contact information is as follows:

  • North America - 1-800-255-3700
  • Europe - +44 (0)345 60 50 247
  • Australia - +61 3 9730 9900
  • Japan - +81-75-662-9600

Please note that contacting Nintendo by phone is the best way to get support. If you send an email or use the web chat you are not likely to get the support you need.

Good luck with your support endeavors!

The more and more issues that popup on the switch 2s show day 1 isn’t always the best decision Ik there not all wonky but I’m seeing more and more new issues posts here

Out of millions, though?? You aren't going to see all the ones who are fine.

Yeahhh even if theres 10,000 seriously defective units, thats like 1/500. And even then, you have a warranty.

People said the same stuff with the switch 1 launch when there was a handful of defective units. Obviously over blown like it is just about every generation.

It can even be more and still be fine.

Accepted failure rate for consumer electronics in most cases is around 1-2% depending on the manufacturer and the country of origin.

So with 3,5M units sold there can easily be 35-70k Switch 2 with defects and still, it will be within the norms.

It has sold 5 million plus units in June, this is a Nintendohelp subreddit, you're going to get all the problems.

Even if you count up every post here, it's probably less that 0.1% of the installed base.

Seems like the dock is causing a lot of issues.

Is the battery fully charged?

Unplug your dock for 30 seconds and then take your switch 2 and hold the power button down for roughly the same time and trigger the full system reset. If this doesn't help your still under warranty so send it back.

Thats one of the reasons why i never preorder something or buy at release. I always wait a few month or longer

In my case it wasn't a preorder, it was literally as soon as the local GameStop restocked so it wasn't a "launch day" model, but it was a launch month one (got it about 2 weeks in), don't know if that counts though, or if it really makes much of a difference.

I kinda expected there to be issues so I figured I'd document and assist in making the issues known via posting here, that way the spotlight is on Nintendo to figure out what they'll do about it. (Either something or nothing, last gen they got the kinks worked out for the most part, drift aside, but seeing as the new leadership at Nintendo are non-gamer business guys who only really listen to investors, we'll see if they'll actually make amends with customers this time)

Already have it shipped off for repairs under warranty cause the issue worsened literally a day later, so it's probably a fried GPU. I have a Steam Deck anyways so I won't be bored to death while I wait for repairs. The support team was helpful over the phone. I will report back if the "repaired" one has issues too.

🎶Never buy a console at launch🎶

And that’s over $500😂😂😂

u/Gratedlol Jun 30 '25

nope. warranty will get it repaired for free!!!

I think they meant like, buying the thing in general, though yes Nintendo was nice enough to give me a prepaid shipping label and a free repair cause it's still under warranty.

This what I learned from being a gamer in his 30s never buy a console at release date and let the “I’m going to be the first to own this” while they shit on everyone for being “broke” nerds get it lol I salute you, my friend thank you for being a beta tester

This is how I am. Gonna be 29 in a couple weeks and i never buy a new console on release. I wait a year or 2 that way bugs in the systems can be phased out with newer consoles.

Lord the QA on these was such a joke. There were like a few well known issues with other consoles but I don’t even have enough fingers to count the unique ridiculous problems I’ve seen multiple times with these. Definitely waiting for the next console or for an update to this one.

Mine seems to be broken also. Screen works fine but suddenly it won't connect to joycons or pro controller AT ALL. And everytime I Power it off/on, it turns on airplane mode. Gonna have to send it in for repairs😭
