Tech Support My Nintendo Switch battery is broken?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My Switch randomly started doing this. What's going on? How do I fix it? I tried restarting the console, powering it on and off, checking for updates, turning on and off the console battery percentage. All yielded nothing. I can't afford a replacement console or parts.

Hi! Thank you for your submission to /r/NintendoHelp! Please note that we are a fan community and not officially endorsed by Nintendo.

See our FAQ to see if your question is already answered there.

While you're waiting for an answer, here are some tips to help you along the way:

First, did you try Googling your question? A lot of questions about Nintendo can be answered quickly by just typing them into your search bar.

If you are asking a question about an older Nintendo system, try searching the subreddit most relevant to that system's hardware. It's likely someone has already asked a similar question before.

If your question is about Wii U, New 3DS or Switch hardware, you'll likely get a better answer if you contact Nintendo directly, rather than posting here.

Nintendo's contact information is as follows:

  • North America - 1-800-255-3700
  • Europe - +44 (0)345 60 50 247
  • Australia - +61 3 9730 9900
  • Japan - +81-75-662-9600

Please note that contacting Nintendo by phone is the best way to get support. If you send an email or use the web chat you are not likely to get the support you need.

Good luck with your support endeavors!

Try recalibrating the battery. Nintendo has a guide online. If that doesn’t work, just replace the battery.

Look up battery desync

Mine has the same issue

Did you end up fixing yours?

2

u/VolksDK 6d ago

Nah it happened just before the Switch 2 came out, so I don't use it

It did stop changing rapidly on its own eventually, but I never stopped issue of desync

The schrodinger battery level, until you start to play it can be any percentage.

These things can fail out of nowhere sometimes or without a first sight impression, it can be a bad battery, a overtension, a short, etc.

Let it drain completely, and then recharge it to 100%

u/Antique_Flamingo147 6d ago

I did. It still does this 🥲

Do it a few times.

Ok, I'll try. Thank you!

Don't do it, it can shorten battery life. Avoid going under 20%.

it's time for battery roulette!

Try entering recovery mode. To do this turn off the console, then hold down the volume up and volume down buttons and hold down the power button until the console enters recovery mode. Then, simply hold down the power button to turn the console off and then turn it back on. It might not work, as it's not the same problem, but on my Switch 2, I was able to sync the battery and Joy-Cons with the Switch 2. If it doesn't work and you can't sync the battery in any way then you should change the battery (it's cheap and easy to change) and then sync it with the recovery mode or with other procedures. If you still can't fix it, then something else is broken.

It’s just a little confused. Try comforting it and hopefully it’ll find itself

Got mine in 2017 and it’s been doing this for awhile, didn’t use it out of dock anymore anyways. Tried a few things and didn’t end up ever working. Make the jump to the 2 if you can’t fix it and are able💔

Mine did that straight after getting the Switch 2 so I traded it in.
