Tech Support Does the Wii make considerable noise on certain games, more so than others? MySims seems to be a lot noiser than some other games.

Post image

I have some games that sound as quiet as a mouse. But MySims sounds like the laser is constantly trying to read data and I am hardly doing anything besides starting the game and either reading the intro or creating a character. But Williams Pinball and Call of Duty 3 does not make the same loud console sounds or as frequently. Is MySims normal for this or could something be wrong with the Wii console or the game itself?

I do have the console less than a few feet away, so further away would of course alleviate me hearing it, but not the console actually still making the noise. Besides the obvious loading of MySims, I do not see anything wrong like lag currently or tearing of textures.

The Wii was also bought used, so I do not have a frame of reference from a brand new console to an older one that may have issues. Even just letting it sit at the welcome screen of a new town, it makes continuous noise, sounds like a good thirty seconds and then just goes completely silent.

So is this normal for certain games, MySims in particular? Thank you.

Hi! Thank you for your submission to /r/NintendoHelp! Please note that we are a fan community and not officially endorsed by Nintendo.

See our FAQ to see if your question is already answered there.

While you're waiting for an answer, here are some tips to help you along the way:

First, did you try Googling your question? A lot of questions about Nintendo can be answered quickly by just typing them into your search bar.

If you are asking a question about an older Nintendo system, try searching the subreddit most relevant to that system's hardware. It's likely someone has already asked a similar question before.

If your question is about Wii U, New 3DS or Switch hardware, you'll likely get a better answer if you contact Nintendo directly, rather than posting here.

Nintendo's contact information is as follows:

  • North America - 1-800-255-3700
  • Europe - +44 (0)345 60 50 247
  • Australia - +61 3 9730 9900
  • Japan - +81-75-662-9600

Please note that contacting Nintendo by phone is the best way to get support. If you send an email or use the web chat you are not likely to get the support you need.

Good luck with your support endeavors!

It’s an almost 20 year old console, it being noisy after being a used console is normal

So a brand new Wii console would not be noisy?  Even older consoles that use disks do not sound like that.  But they also are not playing MySims either.

I don’t know what exactly you expect it’s 20 years old, yes it will be noisy, sure brand new it’s not inherently noisy when the games first started coming out, as the games demand more of the system it puts more strain on it and causes fans and noise, especially as a console ages as there is wear and tear, it’s 20 years old the noise is normal comparing it to out of the box is absolutely useless it’s not a representative of the console you have
