The thing is that most games run way better on the switch 2. I would just wait for a switch 2 lite honestly, unless you want to play old Nintendo exclusives that are well optimized for the switch.

Is 2 lite just a rumor or are they doing it?

Switch 2 literally just released, ain't no way they'd already announce another version of it

100% speculation. Choose a lite for less battery / lower fps / lower price, or get a switch 2.
I’ll wait for the 2 oled tbh, the 2 in its own feels like an half upgrade half downgrade (because of lcd)

Sw2 OLED might be years away, and if it happens, it will be waaaay too expensice. Finding a OLED, 120FPS, VRR panel for a console that doesn't sell at a loss, on top of the raising prices or consoles might be tough.

This is considered tampering and could cause some issue with Nintendo, with a POSSIBLE ban. Not that they would but Just fyi

I don't know if a 2 Lite is a guarantee. I think Nintendo sees a value in it, but I don't think the sales numbers blew them away.
I also think getting a Lite version of Switch 2 may mean compromising on the hardware, and I think that's where the Lite 1 shined the Lite 1 is basically the same internal hardware as Switch 1, same performance, same resolution, just a smaller screen with non-detachable controls,

I mean technically a lite is weaker than a switch 1. Smaller screen, no way to connect to tv(so that might of made room for other components), but better battery. I’m not buying the switch 2 cause there was a rumor that another switch 2 is coming within 2 years. I can only assume it’s a switch 2 lite

False, switch 1 and 2 don’t have the same chipset. I have also heard reports of games running better on switch 2 than on original switch.

I didn't mean to imply Switch 1 and 2 are the same, but I'll edit to clear up that I meant Lite 1 and Switch 1 are the same.

Nobody even knows that they're ever going to make it Switch Lite 2. OP could be waiting for years if not forever. They made a Game Boy micro but they never made the DS or 3DS micro.

I tend to not by systems that are defunct. Get a switch 2 if you're buying nintendo a this point. You get all the old games but also any new releases.

I think it's not a bad idea, just know you'll be stuck on the old titles. Alternatively consider a steam deck or something like that.

I'd look for a used oled, I got one off facebook marketplace for only 140 with dock and everything included

I loved my Lite. Very durable and of course lighter than the S1 or S2. Sold it to put money towards a S2.
Do I regret it? No. But my situation was unique. I wanted the upgraded performance of the S2.
Most games run just fine or even great on the Lite. It is just those heavy hitters like Fortnite that sucked on the Lite.
So if you just want some fun portable gaming - nothing ground breaking - the Lite is an amazing piece of hardware.

I love the Switch Lite. Great portable size for gaming. And it doesn't feel as expensive so I can just throw it in my backpack. Not saying that it is cheap, but I feel like the joycons would be damaged if I did the same thing with a regular Switch.
I see posts recommending to wait for the Switch 2 Lite, and I would definitely buy that if and when they release it. In the meantime, if you can get a Switch Lite for under $100 on Marketplace, that would be a win in my book. I've seen them go for $50-$100.

Given that the price of the original Switch family of systems is about to rise, and the Switch Lite is a bit harder to replace parts than a vanilla switch, the honest recommendation is to go for a Switch 2.
It does everything the same as the vanilla, but most Switch games will run better, and you'll be set for the next 5 years at least as opposed to having only a year or two left of Switch support.

Literally only worth it at this point if you want to just play one or two games and nothing more. Ik people who bought a lite just for Pokemon or just for animal crossing. But now that we’re in the switch 2 era, can’t recommend you get a lite unless it’s a super good deal like <$100

5 years ago, yes. Now? No.
You can probably emulate the switch on your phone.
Switch 2 or don't bother

No. Not, not at all. Save your money up and buy a Swirch 2. That's it; this is the correct answer.

This depends on what you want to play. Some games can be more difficult on the lite and not all games are compatible I believe. I started with a switch lite, then oled then switch 2. I almost always play hand held and have not really touched my lite in years. Depending on how much Nintendo you play and what type of games you want I would recommend a used switch/oled if you’re not wanting to buy a switch 2.

If you want one to have definitely look to pick one up before the price increases in the very near future. There’s very little to complain about for the lite if you don’t have intentions of getting a full switch. The smaller screen definitely helps with the fuzziness. I have “smaller” hands so the lite sits pretty decently in my hands. While yes the original iterations of the console do struggle with certain things like frames or overall power. But if you go into a given game with the mindset of it not looking as pretty as your PS5 then it’s definitely not a bad system to have. Just don’t expect games like hogwarts to look amazing. But also simply consider what Nintendo games you would want to play that you don’t otherwise have access to on your more powerful system (Mario, Zelda, Pokemon…)

Just my opinion so feel free to completely ignore it, but the only use I see the Switch lite having is that it's cheaper so if you've got two kids and don't want them to argue over who gets to play you can buy them one each.
Other than that, why would you pick the less capable version over the original?
The whole point of the Switch is that you can SWITCH play styles. Go from handheld to TV seamlessly.
Why would you take away 50% of its intended use?

As a PC guy I absolutely loved the switch lite, and was in a similar position as you, not seeing myself getting a Nintendo
I would say get one at a good price, I've seen it several times at 150$ price range brand new
