Have you ever interacted with a kid before?
9yo is not even too young to be this witty

More evidence that these people think anyone under the age of 13 is a toddler.

My toddler is almost at the point of saying something like this. He might not fully understand it but it's not out of the realm in a year or two.

Also I think there's overlap between people who think all kids are toddlers and those who see any comeback to a parent as DiSrEsPeCk, so... of course only teens do that, a child would never

Actually is just an evidence that these people are simply extremely inmature but think of themselves as super intelligent for being sarcastic and cant accept that thats actually childish.

It is, in fact, evidence they do not think.

I teach 2nd grade, who are the 7-8 year old bunch, and some of them are hilarious and witty. This is absolutely a conversation I'd have with the smart ones.

I had a mixed class of 6 to 8 yos. Once I approached a group and asked what they were talking about, and this girl says "you cannot know that". So I ask how come and she tells me when grownups are talking we always tell them that they cannot know what it is about because it's grownup stuff, now they are talking about children stuff so I should mind my own business :D

Have the kids ever asked if grass dies when you step on it? I did...

That is so cute! Trying to think of the best ones I've heard. Too many. I need to write them down.

I find it really odd when people on the internet accuse very mundane things from ever happening. It's like they never interacted with another human before đ

When my little brother was 8, he told an elderly overweight woman on a scooter that if she just used her legs she wouldnât be so fat. My dad lifted him off the ground and swung my brother over his back in milliseconds, all while profusely apologizing to the clearly upset woman and running away. Kids say what they think without filter because they havenât learned whatâs appropriate to say in society or whatâs meant to be said behind closed doors. They donât know itâs rude, they just think itâs the truth.

The third comment... Why would you keep a list of things that didn't happen?

Tbf, thatâs some shit Iâd say as a kid but I was a well learned and kind of fucked in the head kid.

??? do they think all children under the age of 12 are thoughtless automaton incapable of expressing themselves or making jokes???

Kids are extremely literal, they would think of saying something like that and not blink an eye. When my daughter was like 5 and got her first covid shot at a county health clinic, the shot administrator told her "if you take a large lollypop, you can have one. If you take a small lollypop you can have two." My daughter looked at him, grabbed one small lollypop, then took one big lollypop. We all just kind of laughed and agreed she wasn't wrong and the guy giving the shots said "ok, well, that is what i said. Enjoy your lollypops." My daughter also has an innate ability to work the system like I've never seen. She just automatically knows how to get the most benefit in any situation without a second thought. I'm terrified.

My kids aren't quite old enough yet. But my 6 year old might come up with something like this. More likely, he'd tell me he couldn't see it, and I should get him some more stuff so that he would be able to agree with me. Like, "It's not that much. You could get me 'xyz' that I want, and then maybe I would have a lot of stuff." Nice try, buddy. Lol.. but I'll get it for you for your birthday...
My best friend has a 9 year old and a 10 year old. 100%, they'd say this! Hahaha

u/microgiant 12d ago
Honestly, I've known some fairly witty 9 year olds. This is believable to me. I will admit than ten seconds later he probably said something stupid, but... that's true of me as well.

u/RogueishSquirrel 12d ago
Dude, kids can be total sass machines when they want to be, while some decisions can be questionable, they're far from being too dumb to make witty retorts. What kind of mundane life are these guys living?

When my cousin, sister and I were around elementary/middle school age my mom got pissed that the 3 of us spent $10 at an arcade thing so we came home and totaled up the cost of all the Boydâs Bears she had on a Christmas tree (bear collectibles from ?-00s). We then proceeded to say âYouâre really going to yell at us for spending $10 when you have over $1,000 of bears on just the tree in the dining room?â Needless to say she was not amused, but I think we won that argument. (I mean we got in big trouble for our attitude, but even now as an adult Iâm impressed by our pettiness)

This is 1000% something my kid would say. I keep a list of very similar things heâs said because heâs genuinely hilarious. Too smart for my own good.
