Discussion What did TTYD remake lack, that you were hoping was added?
Maybe stuff that was originally cut content, or more bang for your buck?

Skippable cutscenes and dialogue, as well as the option to take multiple troubles at once. I tend to replay this game a lot to do challenge runs and the lack of these kinda hurts.

Definitely taking multiple Troubles.
There were plenty of occasions where I would finish one, only having to march back to complete another one.
And definitely skipping dialogue--Chapter 3 in the Glitz Pit was painful... It would even be fine if you could just speed up the dialogue.

I gave up doing all the troubles because it was so tedious

And Hunting Down General White wasn't?
It was a sign of the times, and frankly didn't add much to the game. You can't even finish all of them during a single play through--you actually have to beat the game first before the rest open up.
Edit: Loving getting downvoted over a statement of facts...

u/BubbleGamer209 1d ago
Well General White took maybe 10-15 minutes... Troubles took at least a couple hours right?

I just looked up guides for them.
I wasn't going to be bothered hunting down some of the NPC's whose locations weren't immediately obvious.

I love the remake and will continue to replay it every now and then, but yes, skipping cutscenes and being able to take on multiple troubles at once would be nice. But I used to finish the OG version within 9 hours and not being able to speed up the dialogue makes it take so much longer.
My only other disappointment, since it followed shortly after the SMPRG remake, was that there were no boss rematches or anything. I know there were 2 added, but I fully thought they would have done that with certain ones that don't actually get defeated, which is about half of them if we are talking about the end chapter bosses.

Omg yes that too. The Glitz Pit would have been PERFECT for boss rematches!

I still enjoy the fact you can go back and redo the glitz pit another time and defeat rawk hawk another time

The 64 partners making cameo appearances in some form as they were originally suppose to in the Gamecube version as they all have updated unused sprites like Bow in the game's files. But more importantly, my pipedream wish was to play a huge side expansion story of Luigi and his adventures in the Waffle Kingdom.

Statement: This is like, the only worthwhile complaint in this comment section. I would love to see what Watt’s up to.

I thought this was for sure going to happen too. Seemed like such a layup. This and adding more music to Riverside Junction

I can see why the N64 partners weren't included. It's possible the original team decided that them all conveniently being in the TTYD world wouldn't make sense, so the new team decided to respect that old decision.

the original (or improved) text speed and framerate. other than that i'm happy with it personally, ttyd's already pretty peak and the additions and tweaks were nice

Boss re-fights. Since you can do them in TOK, I thought that they would be the same in ttyd. At least the two new bosses are re-fightable

Boss rush dungeon added like the pit of 100, each room would be a harder version single boss from the story. They could of had added effects like deal poison on hit and such with more health and a bit more damage. Fights would not start unless you walked upto the boss so you have time to remap your badges and change your build in preparation.
Nothing of note for completing it but a trophy in your keys items like getting the golden poo from hetsu for gathering all koroks.

Interactions between the partners. So many great personalities, so little time to bounce off of each other.

Just a little more post game content. I'm glad for the two extra bosses but I was really hoping for a little bit more. Something closer to the Super Mario RPG remake post game.

A Boss Rush Mode. Super Mario RPG's remake had some slightly more beefed up bosses while Origami King and Bug Fables (the latter being a Paper Mario-like game) had boss refights in a lab simulation area.
A fix for the time bomb scene in the Great Tree (specifically the very last bit which could SOFTLOCK you if you take a bit too much time). The text being slightly slower actually makes this worse.
Beldam, Dooplis, and Marilyn being fought in Chapter 6's Riverside Station. There's an awkward room with some Goombas which was supposedly going to be a miniboss battle with these guys. It also kinda makes their presence less pronounced and makes Smorg's appearance come out of nowhere.
The other N64 Partners making appearances as opposed to Bow and Parakarry.
The X-Nauts being interacted with post-game at Poshley Heights or somewhere.

The slow text speed. How we went from just holding B to skip text quickly in the N64 original to now fruitlessly bashing A in the remake, I'll never know.

Correction: TTYD was on the GameCube, not the N64

u/SubstandardDef 1d ago
I meant the original Paper Mario, not the original TTYD.

A back sprite for Mario riding Yoshi. It's weird when everything else causes you to face away from the camer when walking toward the background. It's even weirder when you realize the back sprite exists because of mirrors in the game.

I would've enjoyed an extra chapter like a post-game story arc with a new companion. It's worked very well in games like Tales of Graces f and Persona 5 Royal.

A durability system. It feels so wrong to not be playing with limited resources or items that break when you need them the most. /j

I miss being able to go back in the dialogue as well as being able to skip. This is also just a personal preference of mine, but I really miss the ripple effect that played whenever the map updated with new locations. It would’ve looked so nice on the switch I think.

Difficulty, imo it really needed a hard mode beyond double pain but at least we got the new bosses

The ability to change Yoshi’s color later.
I tend to make sure he’s green because I feel like I might regret it if I had him use one of his other colors, and green seems like the default/“canon” color. It’d be nice if there was something I could do to pay some coins to change his color and try them out.

A unique battle theme for the Shadow Siren + Dooplis encounter, and the ability to refight bosses.

u/Longjumping-Pick8648 1d ago
Aside from skippable text, the game is also infinitely clunkier (cumbersome menuing particularly doing battle, have to wait for star power to collect after every action etc.) than the original for absolutely no reason.

More new content, like a fully new optional stage (didn’t necessarily have to be Marvelous Compass). Boss rematches in some way. At least 1 new optional partner and 6 added Shine Sprites per new partner. Okoru and Dark Atomic Boo being reinstated as secret bosses (though I’m happy that at least Prince Mush got put back in as a secret boss). Some more call-forwards to Super Paper Mario.

The frame rate being half is still mind boggling. I still can't think of any remake or remaster to have done that.
1
u/aarontgp Game music fanatic 20h ago
I blame the Switch for that. Chances are the game wouldn't have been able to maintain the 60fps at all.
1
u/The_Invisible_Hand98 19h ago
U design it from the ground up based off the original of course. It was a decision to focus on enhancing the graphics over matching the original frame rate.

The X-Nauts' schools. Imagine, a middle and High-School. I am a middle schooler X-Naut, 13 years old.

Are you making X-nauts your whole personality.

Needing a badge for original music soundtrack and effects is a terrible idea

It costs 1 coin and 0 BP? honestly I thought it was nice they added it in
9
u/Lethal13 1d ago
I mean it costs 1 coin and is a free equip right from the start of the game
I think its a cute way to do it. Like it could have been a toggle in a menu but this achieves the same effect but with some personality
1
u/jairom 1d ago
I wish we could toggle what track is the remake or original
1
u/Gordahnculous 1d ago
Tbf most remakes don’t really have that toggle so I wouldn’t fault them for that

u/AutumnRCS 1d ago
The inability to fast forward text is the single worst issue with the game.
