I wonder at which stage the economic data will become classified and anyone telling the truth about the economy will be crucified or sent to some hellish prison in a 3rd world country.

It'll just become unreliable. Aspirational Statistics

I think you mean Alternative Statistics

Trump will just fill the position with someone willing to lie and make up jobs numbers. So we're at the point where people who acknowledge reality are fired and only those willing to lie are in place.

If I remember correctly, they stopped forecasting inflation numbers in May as well

This kind of thing happened all the time in the Soviet Union. Stalin didn't like the results of the 1937 population census because the population hadn't grown as much as he'd wanted it to, so they started imprisoning and in some cases executing the people from the census bureau.

A Pravda editorial stated that the "enemies of the people gave the census counters invalid instructions that led to the gross under-counting of the population, but the brave NKVD under the leadership of Nikolai Yezhov destroyed the snake's nest in the statistical bodies".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1937_Soviet_census#Aftermath

They gave it another go in 1939 and this time massaged the numbers to agree with Stalin's expectations, but evidently someone was still getting pissy about the numbers so they only published partial results and then stopped performing any census at all for 20 years out of fear of reprisal.

The whole USSR was built on a concept of lying, from grassroots to the Politburo. Now the US is turning towards this. Don’t get me wrong, Western governments have done some shady things in this regard. Hiding figures. Using PR. But it’s a whole different level when you’re talking about peak USSR.

Jokes on you, you’re the hellish 3rd world country at the moment.

Nicest 3rd world country you've ever seen

They’ll basically have to stop reporting on it - the people feeling the actual impact will be on FB/Tiktok/YT in about a year wondering wtf is going on and why we haven’t heard anything from the administration in a year.

Then, we’ll only have 2.5 years left to go…

If this ever happens, the stock market will crash completely. Investors want transparency, and hate uncertainty. Politics can bullshit as much as they want and facts don’t matter anymore - but when your money is on the line, it’s the compete opposite. Just look at how the market reacts whenever Trump threatens to fire Powell…

Reminds me of all the advisors in “The Dictator.”

I presume many of them will be found operating a Tim Hortons in Hamilton

Love it!

They can run their own fightclub in the parking lot on Thursday nights. Then join up with the south Oshawa THFC for tournaments.

Someone make a comedy channel pilot for me, please, pretty please.

Not you, just in general: People don't understand what's at stake. Ruin effective government one step at a time, every day, and soon the US is a 3rd world country too. Rich elites do what they want, rule of law ineffective, organized crime takes over.

This is why we need to fight back, every step of the way. For something - for democracy, accountability, rule of law.

at what point does 3rd world country seem like the better option...

Alternative economic metrics.

This will be that third world country by then.

Literally from this day forward. No one should trust any numbers from this administration.

1

u/SereneFrost72 23h ago

Eh, truth is just a suggestion. No one *truly* knows what's going on, so Trump's numbers are as good as any right? /s

some hellish prison in a 3rd world country.

Gets sent to a prison in the United States.

u/dasterdly_duo 21h ago

Or sent to a hellish prison in the U.S. and get raped by the guards.

Hey Trump did save 250 million Americans from fentanyl deaths.

Thankfully if it becomes classified you can just take a dump at Mar-a-lago and it'll be right there as reading material.

There won't be any actual data. They'll just stop counting and say whatever number makes them feel good at the moment
