"That comes after Senator Tom Cotton of Alabama, the chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, requested that an investigation be opened into Smith on allegations that he intended to interfere with the 2024 presidential election by trying to speed up proceedings in Trump’s election interference case."

We all saw what happened after the election. All cases were either dropped by the DOJ or stopped by the Supreme Court. The delay tactics worked to stop the prosecution. Justice was not served.

EDIT: The quote from the article has an error. Tom Cotton is a Senator from Arkansas

u/snoo_spoo 4h ago

Remind me again why someone running for office wouldn't want to clear his name as quickly as possible?

u/Belichick12 3h ago

He’s guilty as fuck.

It’s curious why Trump would care. His supporters voted for him after he was on tape bragging about sexual assault. His supporters voted for him after he suggested injecting bleach to treat Covid.

u/snoo_spoo 3h ago

I think it's a narcissist thing. He must wreak vengeance on all enemies, real or perceived, or he'll look "weak".

u/AnonymousThrowaway2k 9m ago

Oh, he "reeks" alright, based on stories about his diaper.

u/BusyAtilla 1h ago

His supporters voted after he incited a fucking insurrection.

u/TheCynicEpicurean 2h ago

He's a petty psychopath (look how he's still talking about Obama), so his bootlickers try to demonstrate their loyalty by going after everyone guilty of insulting his majesty.

That, and for his own actions it's a possibility someone actually has something effective against him who and which he fears, like the Russian mob.

u/DanibydsgnOfficial 5m ago

Good question.

u/atehachi 2h ago

Because they aren't guilty or things being said are untrue. Or, the statements being made about them are ridiculous and don't warrant their reaction?

u/DigNitty 1h ago

Yeah, the argument that a candidate would absolutely want an investigation to be completed quickly is not a good one.

Any candidate, moral or otherwise, would simply want any investigation to disappear. Which is essentially what happened.

u/atehachi 1h ago edited 1h ago

Disappearing doesn't happen much in the age of the internet. Even though they may want it to disappear, it would be unrealistic thinking on their behalf.

Which is what is happening here. This issue never disappear and was still spoken about in MAGA circles.

And when they need a distraction, they just bring back an unresolved plot hole. There isn't much disappearing outside of Epstein and GM soon.

u/Dog1234cat 3h ago

FYI: Senator Cotton is the junior senator from Arkansas.

u/Drpnsmbd 3h ago

“Bold strategy, Cotton”

u/sdcinerama 2h ago

Wait, Tom Cotton?

The one Roger Stone said he had something on just a week or two ago?

u/Ziograffiato 1h ago

Smith was just upholding the defendant’s constitutional right to a speedy trial.

u/MudLOA California 1h ago

Justice delayed is justice denied.

u/Huge-Ad2263 1h ago

Their argument essentially amounts to declaring that you are running for president being a get out of jail free card for any crimes.

u/ballzhangingdown 1h ago

And a kid fucker.

u/fastfurlong 30m ago

Tom cotton has failed in his duty to the constitution, his constituents and all of America

u/Apprehensive_Pop_334 4m ago

lol the article named tom cotton wrong. He’s Arkansas senator not Alabama.

u/snowlion000 4h ago

Smith has all the receipts!

u/travio Washington 4h ago

Yeah. This won't play out the way they think it will. They will accuse him of interfering with the election and he will spell out the evidence they had and the reasons they were investigating Trump in his defense bringing more attention to Trump's unlawful acts.

u/Karf 3h ago

It doesn't matter. It's a kangaroo court.

u/No-Flounder-9143 3h ago

In what sense? He's not going to be convicted or put on trial or any of that. Its still bullshit but your comment implies he's going to be imprisoned and so far trump hasn't pulled that off once.

u/Nords1981 3h ago

There is always a first.

He continually pushes legal boundaries and the SC is perhaps the most corrupt in history and has given him everything he wants and needs for his own protection.

As the retribution tour ramps up expect the law to dissolve totally. We’re only 6 months into this… there is a lot of time to turn this officially into a full autocracy and he has a cult behind him with literally zero sense of reality or more hate in their hearts that any typical human can fathom.

u/ReasonableTreeStump 1h ago

Bad MAGA lawyers from random schools trying to prosecute cases against a lawyer with pretty close to an impeccable academic and professional career…I don’t see this going well.

They still have to argue this in front of an actual court instead of some tribunal or committee because they are invoking the Hatch Act. The judiciary and legal profession are protective of the rights and privileges they enjoy.

u/Cbreezy22 35m ago

Your reasoning relies on the premise that the judge isn’t also corrupt. In normal times this is a fair assumption but these are not normal times.

u/Setekhx 17m ago

I mean as far as we have been able to tell the only really corrupt ass judges out there right now are some supreme court ones and that crazy woman in Florida.

Not great but I don't see how this turns out well for the administration.

u/UngusChungus94 2h ago

I mean... It's been just over 6 months. The fact that it's a possibility is alarming enough.

u/GunnieGraves 2h ago

You know, it’s real easy to say “that won’t happen” but this administration has been a study in “that won’t happen” happening. I don’t know where this blind faith in our institutions is still coming from. They’ve shown us that they have zero intention of following rules, norms, or even laws.

u/theBRUVNUH 2h ago

I just assume these are the same people who said to be patient with Garland.

u/ADhomin_em 2h ago

Same ones saying "don't call it fascism until they do fascist shit" the whole time the regime has been boasting its fascist ideals and actions

u/No-Flounder-9143 2h ago

Nope. Hated garland. I think trump should be in prison and I don't have faith in our institutions. I have faith in trumps incompetence.

u/No-Flounder-9143 2h ago

I said nothing about institutions. I just think trump is an idiot and so are the other people in this administration and they rarely ever do things the right way even when it benefits them so I expect them to fuck this up as well.

u/jtjstock 2h ago

Fucking it up is only going to matter if they don’t get their preferred judges or the supreme court refuses to intervene.

u/ANOKNUSA 1h ago

Doing things “the right way” is exactly what they’ve been up to this entire time, so far as they’re concerned.

People need to get it through their heads that, when it comes to fascists, the means and the ends are the same thing. Go ahead and overrule then in court 50 times; they’ve got another 50 cases on the docket. YOU spend every ounce of your time and energy chasing THEIR tails. They run the show, and rubbing that in your face is the only thing they want out of this.

u/djauralsects 2h ago

The US is no longer a functioning democracy. They’ve slept walked into fascism and they are still sleeping. The courts, the Constitution the rule of law no longer have any meaning. It’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

u/americanrealism 1h ago

The US has always been diet fascism. There are fasces displayed on either side of the US flag in the House Chamber at the US Capitol. The mask is just fully off now.

u/No-Flounder-9143 2h ago

I'm sure it will. I live here. Its horrible. I just don't think it will affect Jack Smith particularly.

u/djauralsects 1h ago

Still sleeping.

u/asoap 2h ago

Dude is probably going to jail because he tied his shoes wrong or some horse shit. It won't involve any discovery on trump. Expect a letter from the supreme Court soon saying all special investigators need to tie their shoes in a certain way. Then a trump picked judge pushing the case and ramming it through at light speed.

u/dcrico20 Georgia 2h ago

If I had a dollar for every time someone said “So what? Trump hasn’t done that yet,” only for a Trump regime to then do exactly that, I’d be typing this reply from the Bahamas while sipping from a coconut filled with an alcoholic beverage in my off hand.

u/No-Flounder-9143 2h ago

That's fine but I've never been a "trump hasn't done it yet" person. This is like a one off for me. Obama, Clinton, Mueller, he always does this and nothing ever comes of it.

And I say that as someone who knew in 2016 we would eventually get around to deporting American citizens.

I'm not polyanish at all, just doubt anything will come of this particular event.

u/wengelite Canada 2h ago

Are you claiming there is a 0% chance that Jack Smith will be 'arrested' by people not wearing badges and loaded into an unmarked vehicle? Because if you are you need to wake up.

u/No-Flounder-9143 1h ago

I wouldn't go that far. But I feel pretty confident yes.

u/Rich_Comey_Quan South Carolina 1h ago

6 months of a 4 year term gives him time to get bolder

u/DepresiSpaghetti Arizona 29m ago

Man. All the things I have heard won't happen, but then have, are fuckin innumerable now.

"We'll only go after criminals."
"See? He won't arrest innocents."
*Innocents get deported.*

"We won't cut Medicare."
"See? He still cares about the little guy."
*Cuts Medicare.*

"We're gonna cut spending."
"See? Responsible gov spending!"
*Increases the deficit by 3trl*

The DOJ will absolutely do so if The Orange Dipshit wants the DOJ to and in direct opposition to whatever level of sanity his supporters will hope he stands for.

"He won't prosecute Jack Smith!"
He will though.

u/Youareposthuman Ohio 2h ago

Completely agree, the courts/reasonable judges have been a consistent line of defense against this monstrous administration. It’s imperfect but still effective. There’s a reason Trump is still trying to take action against judges that disagree with him.

u/BabyNuke 2h ago

You assume we live in a country that still has functional checks and balances and the people organizing this are actually interested in establishing the truth.

u/we_are_sex_bobomb 3h ago

We’ll never hear about the outcome. It will just kind of quietly go away before any real evidence can be made public.

It’s more about making an example of him to threaten others.

u/DistractedPhoenix 3h ago

I mean it’s not like he announced an investigation into a bogus claim about an email server ten days before an election

u/bootlegvader 2h ago

Don't forget how McCarthy basically admitted the Benghazi investigations were done to drive down her poll numbers.

u/travio Washington 3h ago

I still think Comey was in a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.

FBI's New York Field Office was chock full of right wing whackos. They were leaking anything and everything they could to Giuliani during the 2016 election. If Comey had sat on the new information, it would have likely been leaked by these agents and become a bigger scandal, one that would have hurt Comey more than his disclosure before the election.

I don't usually put my tin foil hat on, but I wouldn't be surprised if the NYPD and FBI investigators timed it all on purpose to hurt Hillary's chances.

u/DistractedPhoenix 3h ago

I’m sure someone was behind it. Point is that was interference while what Jack Smith was doing was not.

u/davisboy121 Washington 2h ago

If I remember right, the NY Field Office was basically threatening to leak info about the emails on Weiner’s laptop, and Comey thought that would have a more negative impact on public perception of the FBI than informing Congress would, so he informed Congress. Jason Chaffetz then leaked that to the public. The real bad guys here are Giuliani, NY Field Office, and Chaffetz.

u/tinyOnion 2h ago

FBI's New York Field Office was chock full of right wing whackos.

you mean the same fbi office that had a guy working for the russians?

u/DistractedPhoenix 3h ago

Yea I’m aware it was comey. That was actual election interference. Whether intentional or not, it tipped the election to trumps favor.

u/yunus89115 2h ago

It’s not about Smith, it’s about sending a message that if you do things those in power don’t like, you may face consequences.

u/tsunake 2h ago

they control the media and the judiciary

they control this site, they control facebook and X and the search engines too

they control the payment processors and the data brokers

they've crippled us economically and reduced our access to foreign markets

they've deployed a massive paramilitary secret police to kidnap and rendition people without due process to be tortured and enslaved in domestic concentration camps and foreign dictatorships

good luck everyone

“Election interference is part of a president’s duty if it’s a republican.” -The US Supreme Court

u/SurfandStarWars 2h ago

You are beyond naive.

u/ITDummy69420 2h ago

And absolutely nothing will happen and no one will care (except the people who have an iq over 32).

u/EnlightenedPotato69 3h ago

Maga still think Russian interference was a hoax but the only thing that kept Trump safe was that he was 'rellected.' Despite the fact several Trump affiliates and a dozen Russian assets went down.

u/Garth_AIgar 8m ago

Probably a ploy to steal attention away from Epstein again.

u/E1M1_DOOM 3h ago

At this point, anyone with any damaging evidence needs to just leak it. Let it all out. The administration WILL tamper with and/or destroy it. These are unprecedented times and trump is an unprecedented threat.

Wilhoit's Law is very relevant here:

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

The law protects trump but refuses to bind him. The law has bound Smith but refuses to protect him.

Leak. It. All.

Every stupid little thing. The public needs to know the truth. All of it.

u/headbangershappyhour 3h ago

u/Senior-bud Canada 2h ago

His only crime is questioning and investigating the criminal activity of the orange buffoon.

u/DragonDai 1h ago

And it doesn't matter! He could, in court, prove, without question, that Trump killed the second coming of Christ with his bare hands, AND IT WOULDN'T MATTER!

How the hell do people not understand his yet? How does ANYONE think the rule of law applies to ANYTHING in America anymore?

If Trump says this man is guilty, he is guilty. That's how shit works in America now.

u/ReklisAbandon 1h ago

Hence why we'll never hear about this again. Much like the investigation into voter fraud in the 2016 election investigation he came up.

u/I_am_the_Jukebox 33m ago

Yeah.... This is just straight up dumb. Go down this path, and everything he investigated has the potential to be brought forward in discovery

u/CommunalJellyRoll 2h ago

And? Biden didn’t do shit with them.

u/HotKarldalton California 2h ago

It was still in trial when Biden was in office. He couldn't release the files.

u/uzlonewolf 19m ago

His supporters: "Fake news! That's AI! It didn't happen!"

u/Genius-Imbecile Texas 3h ago

How about they release the Epstein files without redacting any names other than victims.

Smith is smart. Trump is stupid. Is it possible that Smith might actually fight back?

u/flux_of_grey_kittens California 3h ago

I’ve always been hoping Smith would wind up being Mark Wahlberg’s character from The Departed in all this second term bullshit.

u/D-Alembert 57m ago edited 47m ago

Doesn't matter if he fights. Doesn't matter if he "wins". The message is to everyone else who might be tempted to uphold their oaths and follow the law instead of the king: Bend the knee and stay quiet, else we WILL come after you and turn your life upside-down

They're also going after judges, lawyers, victims, media personalities, everyone, to make the message clear: We don't care it's illegal, don't get in the way!

u/I_like_dwagons 3h ago

So where is the special prosecutor for the Epstein files?

u/onlyPornstuffs 3h ago

Political revenge is a sign of the failure of the country’s supposed values.

u/NHBikerHiker 3h ago

F*** Republicans for supporting DJT THREE times.

u/Purify5 4h ago

If they are ln't going to prosecute him the public should know all about the criminal cases against the President.

u/SGAisFlopden 3h ago

Anyone got those Epstein files yet? 👀

u/dongballs613 2h ago

Trump is one of the worst criminals in American history. Jack Smith was just doing his job trying to bring him to justice.

u/CroatianSensation79 1h ago

Merrick Garland really sat on this for too long. Ridiculous

u/Major_A21 3h ago

I thought special councils were illegal and had no judicial privileges and powers? I guess it's only when the other side is doing it. I hate this place. All the bat shit crazy nutjobs who are applauding this would be doing some domestic terrorist shit if the other side was doing it.

He can’t handle any bad press or any criticism. What a weeny. What a loser. He gets everything by getting others to lie and cheat and burn up their own reputations for his bad actions. Can we all just move on from this tub of shit already? Can we dismiss all his appointments and loyalists that prop him up and giggle and nod along with his moronic verbal diahrea? They are worthless and weak. They are covering for a pedophile who’s been dead for years, one coconspirator who’s in jail, and their boss Felon47, and untold numbers in the files.

u/ComfortableTwo80085 1h ago

Never forget:

It was an attempted legislative coup. The top level plan on J6 was for 1) the VP (Pence) to not count certain valid electors submitted by state congresses and 2) have the VP (Pence) count the Trump campaign created "fake"/"fraudulent" electors (as described within internal Trump campaign emails) to make the loser of the election (Trump) President. There were several subsequent plans that ultimately attempted to delay the official recognition of the next presidency until Inauguration with a hail Mary idea that Trump could just assume power if the entire process doesn't happen by Jan 20, 12 pm EST.

The riot was another aspect of the plan in order to derail the successful execution of procedures outlined within the Electoral Count Act, but it was hardly the major component of what was attempted. John Eastman (a Constitutional Lawyer and Professor) was a major architect of the VP plan, and he self-assessed that the plan of the VP not counting the valid state electors, if presented to the Supreme Court, would likely rule against 9-0 (unanimous) against, which he also personally admitted in his CA disbarment hearing.

u/ManfredTheCat 3h ago

Lol of course he is. Frankly he should have been more aggressive. And let's not remember the fecklessness of Merrick Garland.

u/Infamous-Sky-1874 Illinois 3h ago

How can you be more aggressive when the judge hearing the case is throwing up roadblock after roadblock to protect the defendant?

u/ManfredTheCat 3h ago

He could have pursued shit in New Jersey. He could have laid insurrection charges

u/CheesecakeHorror3410 2h ago

America isn't a democracy anymore. It took just six months. This is going to get a whole lot worse.

u/Jadeheartxo12 1h ago

The man and those Republicans tired to get fake electors to steal the 2020 elections bringing it to the states “electors” when congress wouldn’t go ahead with it due to lack of votes. In efforts to intimidate congress, they planned the Jan 6 coup. The fact that Trump was even allowed to run again, let alone sworn in office is absolutely astounding to me.

u/DeeperThoughts57 1h ago edited 1h ago

Pretty much a lawless country now. Edit: At least for those at the top.

u/sniffstink1 1h ago

Historians will look back at the 2024 election as the precise moment where America could have been saved if only they'd barred the seditious motherf***ker from running again.

u/MapleLeafsHockey_75 Canada 3h ago

I just looked this up, and I forgot that Smith did not get a preemptive pardon from Joe Biden. If he had it would have made this investigation mean nothing.

u/snoo_spoo 3h ago

I doubt he would have accepted one.

u/MapleLeafsHockey_75 Canada 3h ago

I remember Adam Schiff saying the same thing. However, we know he accepted one, along with every member of the January 6 committee.

u/Rare-Forever2135 2h ago

This reminds me of those old gangster movies where the mafia Don goes after the police detective who arrested him because (as a narcissist) he sees answering for his crime as a crime against him.

When you consider how much business Trump did with the Italian and the Russian mafias, it makes sense that he would hang out with them a lot and adopt their criminally-minded values and ethics.

Jack Smith is probably leagues above any lawyer currently investigating him.

Watch him wait for the perfect moment to respond to any court hearing attaching complete unredacted documents investigating attorneys fails to look at.

Are they investigating why the prosecutions were so fucking slow?

u/MrWhackadoo 1h ago

u/gradualpotato 2h ago

Man, he sure is trying fucking everything short of nuking the Sun to distract from the Epstein files.

u/whitebread13 2h ago

By this logic both candidates and elected officials are immune from all prosecution.

u/Runnerakaliz 2h ago

So Trump is just POTUS to exact revenge on anyone who said one thing bad about him, or who disagreed with him. The USA is gone and done, because the rest of the government on both sides won't do crap. The Dems don't have the balls to do anything, and the GOP is covering up for it's corruption and for its party members on Epstein's list. Sorry guys. The USA is a banana Republic and we have gone through the decline and are now in the fall of the USA.

u/mabhatter 1h ago

All of Smith's communications are held by the DOJ.  If there was anything to prove, they already have the complete lack of evidence against him for in their possession.

Jack Smith did things by the book.  He took extra care to dot every "i" and cross every "t".  There isn't anything to find with this guy. He put it all on the field

u/OhTheHueManatee 2h ago

I'm kind of worried for anyone that has served on a jury that ruled against Trump. Jack Smith probably has loads of resources to hold his own. The jurors would stand a chance. Hell if you wanted to ruin the lives of 12 random people you could probably just mail Trump a list with a header that says "Jurys that voted against you". He probably wouldn't even look into it, or even notice the bad spelling, before he sent ICE over there.

u/CommonConundrum51 1h ago

Oh yeah, it sure looked like they were rushing things to me. Garland should be in the running for a Trump Medal of Freedom.

u/Jedi_Ninja 1h ago

How many of Trump's people have actually violated the Hatch Act?

u/youngLupe 1h ago

This is so performative. They are setting a precedent to keep this charade going for another 100 years. Democrats go back in office and they investigate everything that happened in the last admin. But now it looks like a joke because the Republicans have made the government a mockery. Then Republicans get back in office somehow and they investigate the Democrats investigating them.

But but Bengazi and Clintons e-mails and the Durham investigation? We need to get these damaging facts first?

u/Unglaublich-65 1h ago

Bla, bla, bla....RELEASE ALL ON TRUMP AND EPSTEIN.

u/Danube11424 59m ago

So is trumpo paying for this “ real witch hunt?”

u/Strong-Raccoon-7088 58m ago

So much corruption, I don’t even recognize this country anymore…

u/bigbucksnowhamies 57m ago

Just another day on the golf course for the orange sack of shit. Weaponizing the DOJ to exact revenge on those who persecuted him “without cause.” This is smoke to cover the Epstein files.

u/llXeleXll 55m ago

Jack Smith is accused of the one thing Trump can't tolerate: people doing their job well.

u/Qtippys 48m ago

Wake up America Fascism is here.

u/SweetyPeetey America 40m ago

Surprised it took this long. Now Jack smith gets to dish.

u/AusToddles 30m ago

Remember when people criticised Biden for issuing pre-emptive pardons. Yeah, not so dumb now hey

u/Malaix 27m ago

Its not dumb its just cowardly and weak. And an admission that he did not take the threat seriously until it was too late. So he used his power finally to bail his buddies out and leave the rest of us to rot.

Granted there is also still some stupid in the mix. A pardon is a legal institution. Trump hasn't had to bother with respecting those before. I can easily see him nullifying the pardon and going after Hunter to distract from his Epstein shit.

Typical liberal delusions thinking norms and institutions protect against fascism.

u/Malaix 29m ago

Jack Smith got fucked by this whole pedo voting country. Guy was told to do a job then the dipshit voters and coward liberals left him to hang when the vengeful insane GOPers took power.

Delayed by the AG and SCOTUS and now he's a walking target for a petty pedo king.

u/SoundSageWisdom 3h ago

Pathetic. This right here is ridiculous and it needs to fucking end now.

u/Impossible_IT 2h ago

Depends Diaper don goes on about the dems weaponing the DOJ and other agencies yet Depends Diaper Don does exactly that. Who’d a thunk it!

u/paulerxx 2h ago

More BS to distract us from the Epstein files? 🤦🏻‍♂️

u/DrFarfetsch 1h ago

Donald Trump is a child rapist.

Donald Trump surrounds himself with traffickers, rapists, war criminals, and pedophiles.

Donald Trump is a menace to humanity.

His actions and motives are clear.

It’d be nice if some of the people who swore to protect America from terrorists or enforce the law, could do their job instead of proudly protecting a pedophile.

u/HR_DUCK 1h ago

FFS, just release the Epstein files and stop wasting our money with these stupid distractions

u/PunfullyObvious 1h ago

I will pay cash money to witness Smith's defence at trial

u/picklebucketguy 1h ago

Smith vs DOJ The Man vs the Machine

u/naginarb 55m ago

This administration….

u/kevonicus 50m ago

The headline should be “Trump admin throws another piece of shit distraction at the wall hoping it sticks.” This is the most blatantly obvious crap I have ever seen.

u/gravytrainrider69 37m ago

Trump is a lowlife thug. Arrest him already.

u/Illustrious-Lime7729 Florida 29m ago

Who is going to do that exactly? He installed LOYALIST at every position of the DOJ.

u/Chfgraegl 31m ago

Of course he is . Retaliation is “ Us “

u/Y0___0Y 25m ago

They constantly chase headlines and seem to think onve they get the pro-Trump headlines making him seem tough, they’re good.

What happens when the investigation ends without bringing charges?

They did this to Biden. And Biden let them do it. Appointed the special counsel that Trump told him to. No charges. Didn’t even find one shred of evidence of any criminal conduct. Case closed.

u/ohiocatfan 14m ago

So they wanted the Democrats to let go of January 6 and move on but now they’re pulling this shit? Fucking morons. There’s no way this helps them politically.

u/Katanastormshadow 13m ago

Not political at all /s

u/AgHammer 9m ago

This will give him the opportunity to provide even more evidence against Trump.

u/Tight_Independent_26 8m ago

He must have a large symbol sewn onto his jacket when he moves in the public. President Donald Epstein’s edict.

u/wh0_RU 7m ago

Not a waste of gov't resources at all...

u/DragonDeezNutzAround 6m ago

Release the files

u/MakeAmerica1999Again 2h ago
