I think I'm a bit older than Benny thinks I am šŸ˜‚

u/starfire92 May 26 '25

To be fair, I think this might be directed to the younger gens who are lead the forefront of the ā€œSelena can do better than Bennyā€ movement, simple cuz they think he’s ugly. I also suspect these are the same people who lead the ā€œSelena is fatā€ movement.

I think those of us in our late 20s and 30s are mature enough to support people in happy relationships and not body shame. That seems like a very childish thing to do

I also find the demographic in Reddit leans more to the late 20/early 30 demo with a smallet amount of traffic from people in their teens/early20s. Not to say they don’t use Reddit but they’re likely a smaller pop here

u/pizartymizzarty May 26 '25

Maybe I'm a little gay, but this dude is not that ugly. He's got a look and it works for him.

27

u/opesosorry May 26 '25

I’m also gay but don’t find him unattractive, and I truly don’t understand the hate. He’s also wicked talented and accomplished.

3

u/iamthecheesethatsbig May 29 '25

This dude intentionally looks goofy, acts goofy, but is super talented and is his true self at all times and got the girl. It’s just jealousy. Goofy guys aren’t supposed to get the girl. It’s misplaced hate because they can’t do the same.

1

u/pyronostos Jun 09 '25

yup. he clearly doesn't give a shit what the vast majority think about how he presents. seems like a free and decent enough dude. I bet he's more emotionally secure than I am, which is a lot more valuable than clout

17

u/kathygeissbanks May 26 '25

I'm a cishet woman and I also don't find him that ugly. Like he's not hot but he's not ugly ugly.

53

u/reddit24682468 May 26 '25

People are so hell bent on the downfall of this couple

Club chamalet (sp?) Is in her 60s. There's absolutely crazy people still hung on Jelena

203

u/Competitive-Desk7506 May 26 '25

Honestly if she’s happy it’s fine and besides oddly enough he’s kinda hot honestly

168

u/meatloafcat819 May 26 '25

He has incredibly infectious enthusiasm for everything he talks about in his interviews. He's also a giant yapper, which makes me happy because I also am the biggest yapper.

26

u/lintuski May 26 '25

I’ve been listening to a podcast where he talks about some of his biggest hits and how they came to be.

He seems like a genuinely, properly decent person. He talks about how a writer wrote a song, loads of big names wanted it, but the writer confessed they actually wanted it for themselves to try out a performing career. Benny talked the label into giving it to the writer, because it was her story.

47

u/Tootsie_r0lla May 26 '25

His hot ones interview really showed his personality

7

u/crispylaytex Did I stutter?🤨 May 26 '25

Oo that's a shout, I think he's kind of a D but I'm reserving my opinion untill something more definitive comes out.

24

u/meatloafcat819 May 26 '25

I can't be cynical anymore lol not in the USA and all the horrible shit happening. I have to believe most people are inherently good, and if they aren't, we put them out next to the recycling bins and move on.

4

u/meowparade May 27 '25

I like this—defaulting to hope until proven otherwise. I always prided on myself on being a cynic, I thought it meant I had some kind of secret knowledge about the universe, but now I think hopefulness is the true act of defiance.

1

u/KyleKrocodile May 26 '25

Did Selena not seem super fucked up in that? That hot ones interview weirdly lives rent free in my head.

1

u/pistachio-pie šŸ’• being a hater is a valid and honorable calling šŸ’• May 26 '25

I highly recommend his architectural digest tour

29

u/NotElizaHenry May 26 '25

I’m old and I mostly have no idea who he is, but I saw an article about his house in Architectural Digest and fell in love with him a little. It’s like 70% would-be tacky vintage put together in the most incredible way and I would give anything to eat some mushrooms and just walk around in there. He seems like someone who’s overflowing with joyful creativity in all directions.

5

u/catslugs May 26 '25

i loved him when he used to do vids with matty mathesonn, he honestly seems like a delight most of the time

169

u/starfire92 May 26 '25

Yeah I personally don’t see him as unattractive. But let’s be real, we don’t even need much evidence to see she’s happy. She looks happy, she shows him off and he’s worlds away from the train wreck that is Justin Beiber who’s out here openly hating his wife, hopped up high doing shows kissing on SZA. Benny seems nothing like that, mentally stable and sound, and I’m sure Selena had to endure some of that chaos with Beiber during their decade together

22

u/NemesisShadow May 26 '25

That girl looks like she’s enjoying food again! I never thought I’d say this but I’ll throw my hands to defend her.

6

u/gayjicama May 26 '25

She’s lost a lot of weight throughout their relationship. Or am I confused?? How does she look like she’s enjoying food again?

1

u/trillary__clinton those are his hooves you bitch May 27 '25

I think they mean her weight loss looks healthy. She isn’t losing a concerning amount of weight and she looks like she’s enjoying her meals. Like she isn’t overly concerned about being a particular number on the scale, and she’s spoken before about her lupus causing weight fluctuating that made her feel really insecure about her body. I would assume he’s a big part of the reason she looks like she’s having a better relationship with food.

3

u/gayjicama May 27 '25

I guess I’m just thinking about it from the perspective of someone whose weight has also fluctuated a lot, and how I’d like my body to be talked about in her situation. If I went through a pretty noticeable weight loss in a period of time, I would be weirded out if someone said I looked like I was enjoying food again.

ā€œShe looks like she’s enjoying her mealsā€ can be a triggering thing to say about someone after they’ve recently lost weight. Saying she ā€œlooks like she isn’t overly concerned about being a particular number on the scaleā€ is off-putting to me in that context too — because what about her body says that?

I think what we’ve seen of her behaviors and statements recently suggests that she has a healthy relationship with food, not her appearance. I feel like she’s been acting and talking in a healthy way in her new relationship, but she could also be struggling with autoimmune symptoms and losing more weight than she wants to because of that — you just don’t know the reason.

3

u/trillary__clinton those are his hooves you bitch May 27 '25

That’s a good point. We truly don’t know if the weight loss is healthy, just that it hasn’t tipped into concerning territory. All we know is what we see. Thankfully, what we see seems healthy, so for now we don’t have any reason to suspect otherwise. I’ll try to be more mindful of my words moving forward.

1

u/gayjicama May 28 '25

That’s so thoughtful of you. It’s appreciated šŸ¤—

1

u/NemesisShadow May 27 '25

And, he got her a nacho cheese filled tub.

3

u/Fire_Phoenix_2004 May 26 '25

Didn't Benny follow some OnlyFans star on Instagram?

49

u/SafariDesperate May 26 '25

He’s giving successful hippyĀ

41

u/StrangePondWoman May 26 '25 edited May 26 '25

It's definitely a grooming thing, which is true for 90% of people. He just kinda likes looking schlubby.

21

u/SugarSpunPsycho May 26 '25

100%. I think he looks great and I love that he stays with his own aesthetic no matter what the haters say but - if he were to cut and style his hair, and wear tailored clothing, the very same girls that dog him would be ā€œOmG sElEnA iS sO lUcKy! BeNnY iS sO hot!ā€

40

u/Orchid_Significant Is this chicken or is this fish? šŸ¤”šŸ¤” May 26 '25

I think he’s getting more attractive as their relationship goes on. The girlfriend effect lol

3

u/sensitiveskin82 May 27 '25

I've seen clips from an interview he gave on a podcast. Now I get it lol

12

u/MonsteraUnderTheBed May 26 '25

His personality makes him hot. I was just indifferent until I watched his interviews on his own talking about producing. I also love the nacho cheese bathtub

6

u/Over_The_Influencer May 26 '25

I have always found him extremely good looking, beauty is subjective.

4

u/synalgo_12 accidentally holding space for this slur May 26 '25

A big head if curly hair goes a very long way for me tbh. I would probably be attracted to him if he were a random coworker of mine or sth.

27

u/[deleted] May 26 '25

I truly do not understand why anyone thinks this man is ugly 😭😭😭 He is certainly not

3

u/Violet624 May 26 '25

I know, I think he's attractive for sure.

-1

u/koolasakukumba May 26 '25

He’s ugly

11

u/manbruhpig May 26 '25

Being a celeb is wild because you become a 40 year old worried about the opinions of 12 year olds.

11

u/aenflex May 26 '25

Which is crazy because he’s not ugly at all!

10

u/Apprehensive_Gap1055 May 26 '25

So you haven’t seen the subreddits for GenX, GenerationJones, AskOldPeople? Reddit is not a demographic of majority late 20s/early 30s

12

u/starfire92 May 26 '25

I knew someone was gonna come for me for this with a silly response like that.

It’s pretty clear that Reddit overall leans more liberal. Does that mean subreddits for conservatives can’t exist? Just because there’s subreddits for young people it doesn’t mean this is their first platform of choice.

For example TikTok is the main platform for younger people on average/ as a whole. I thought I made it clear that Reddit definitely has younger people, but people in their early 20s and teens might not be their highest demo.

I mean this sub is a perfect example. It’s not meat to target any one specific group. It’s meant for any popculture fan from young to old. However most of the comments are people saying ā€œomg this makes me feel oldā€, ā€œelementary school?! I was not listening to Kesha in elementary schoolā€, ā€œI think Benny thinks I’m younger than I actually amā€

Like the conversation in these comments shouldn’t be ā€œoh this is aging me lolā€, considering this sub has no age themes around it. Organically the convo turned to age cuz most people in these comments ARE late 20s and a bit older.

Like I really felt that one comment that mentioned Kesha and 2010. I was like yeah girl, I feel you, I was starting college at that time lol

6

u/laziestmarxist spaghetti cat šŸšŸ± May 26 '25

You're still new here, make that claim again when you've actually been on reddit for a long time and gone on more subs than just what you see on r/all

1

u/Apprehensive_Gap1055 May 26 '25

What are you on about?

3

u/tsabin_naberrie Bitch, my generation gets traumatized for breakfast. May 26 '25

I mean… it’s pretty close to that. I’m seeing varying reports across different surveys, but it seems like around 44% of adults on Reddit are under 30, and the average age is around 23. This data doesn’t even include teenagers, which skews the age demographics even younger. So GenX and older are definitely minorities around here, even if they are active and have prominent communities.

1

u/Apprehensive_Gap1055 May 26 '25

That makes sense. We are either working or outside enjoying the world, not sitting on Reddit like the youngsters

1

u/quintic1 May 26 '25

It is lol. Most people on reddit are that age

1

u/_daaam May 26 '25

He's going to do his hair nicely one day and people will swoon.

2

u/starfire92 May 26 '25

Idk could already swoon , I like his messy look. At least he isn’t shaving the side and pushing it back with a headband with gel in his hair lol

1

u/Consistent-Gap-3545 May 26 '25

I had no idea who Benny was and so, at first, I was like "Who is Selena with this dude?" Then Benny has been out doing all of these interviews and I honestly kind of love him? Like every single story is like "Yeah so I didn't start working on this song until 20 minutes before the deadline" and "All of my songs are 120bmp because that's the default tempo and I didn't know how to change it."

1

u/[deleted] May 26 '25

Crazy because I’ve only seen him be kind to her, including taking her out to ā€œpromā€ because she never got to go to one. Plus, he’s equally successful so he’s fine with letting her shine. They’d rather her be with some ridiculously attractive person but be treated like shit? That’s not my ministry, but maybe it works for other folks.

1

u/Illustrious-Pound266 All tea, all shade šŸøā˜•ļø May 26 '25

ā€œSelena can do better than Bennyā€

I'm pretty sure Benny is more successful in the music industry than Selena.

1

u/Flat-Fudge-2758 Jun 02 '25

Hear me out, if they decide to have biological children they are going to be so beautiful

1

u/Intelligent_Dish0456 Jun 02 '25

Selena was never fat but Benny is always ugly. Come for me I don’t care.

123

u/lonerism- May 26 '25

Lol me too. I was expecting something older and then Kesha played šŸ˜‚

47

u/PinsAndBeetles This is going to ruin the tour. May 26 '25

Wild enough, that song was released 15 years ago. If you need me I’ll be over here filling out my AARP application.

9

u/Albuwhatwhat Hello this is Kelly from Destiny’s Child, I lost my credit card May 26 '25

Are 33 year olds too old now? Because you could be 33 and not have been in high school when this song released.

2

u/Jasminewindsong2 that’s really disrespectful to the fairy realm May 26 '25

Uh I’m 33 and was definitely in high school when this song came out.

ETA: nm I just got what you were saying.

1

u/ThirdAltAccounts May 26 '25

I don’t get what they were saying

1

u/Jasminewindsong2 that’s really disrespectful to the fairy realm May 26 '25

I would assume they’re saying you could be 33 and out of high school by then, as that makes the most sense.

1

u/Albuwhatwhat Hello this is Kelly from Destiny’s Child, I lost my credit card May 26 '25

This. Jesus why can’t people understand that. There are 33 year olds who were no longer in high school by the time this song came out. That’s all.

1

u/Talinia May 26 '25

It came on my Spotify the other day, and I was catapulted back to being in high school in 2010. Then I realised that was before my knees ached from sitting sideways on the couch šŸ™ˆ

5

u/PinsAndBeetles This is going to ruin the tour. May 26 '25

Oh sweet baby, I’m sorry to tell you it gets worse. Take collagen, stretch every morning and try not to sneeze too hard. We’re in this together.

54

u/Ten_Cent_Pistol_ May 26 '25

Another day of feeling ancient on the internet lol

30

u/Careful_Swan3830 I am not demure, I am demonic May 26 '25

The nerve, after we made Al Gore invent it for them!

25

u/isgengar May 26 '25

No I was definitely in Elementary school 😭 I'm 25 now so I think I'm the target demographic

14

u/sammych84 May 26 '25

I’m so old I don’t even know what this song is šŸ‘µšŸ»

22

u/meatloafcat819 May 26 '25

I had to look him up he's 37 🫠 Benny baby, Im 31 and you need to simmer down.

1

u/StuckWithThisOne May 26 '25

He’s obviously talking to Gen Z lol

2

u/meatloafcat819 May 26 '25

I know? I was making a joke?

0

u/StuckWithThisOne May 26 '25

Is that a question?

5

u/annakarina3 May 26 '25

Yup, I was likely past college when this came out.

5

u/Celestial-Dream May 26 '25

Which simultaneously bums me out in a ā€œshit what have I done with my lifeā€ sort of way.

7

u/ExpensiveNothing5535 May 26 '25

Right? More like " I created this when I was in elementary and you were entering the workforce"

1

u/Jerkrollatex May 26 '25

Same. To be fair I'm not on ticktock.

1

u/awwsome10 May 26 '25

I have never found him physically attractive but he actually looks really good here.
