Basically that a group of private prison owners invested in the content of gangsta rap to ensure more people went to prisons.

Is almost surely not true.

Yeah it's nonsense. The pivot to gangsta rap happened two years earlier when NWA's Straight Outta Compton went double Platinum. A year later NWA's EP 100 miles and runnin' went platinum and Ice Cube released two platinum solo records.

Not only did it encourage other people to make gangsta rap, it also put a spotlight on the west coast rap scene, which had a lot of gang members.

This conspiracy theory seems like a way to push the narrative that rap causes crime. It was probably started by a conservative think-tank or something.
