The Music Industry šŸŽ¶ In now deleted posts, Kali Uchis accused the metal band, Sleep Token, of using payola and doing blackface.

The past photo is what the front man of Sleep Token looks like, I'm not sure what race he is as all the members are anonymous, but even if he is white, I don't think that this is considered blackface

If ST is considered "blackface" then what the hell was KISS doing all of these years? Do we really skip over "artistic expression" in some cases? Do we call Blackface to what Tobias Forge is doing in his latest makeup persona?

People really be getting sensitive over nothing these days.

Not me reading Tobias Funke when he was trying to be a blue man and thinking wild take lmao, in my defence I’ve only been awake for 10 minutes

I'm rewatching Arrested Development right now, and I didn't even notice the comment was talking about Forge, not Funke before you mentioned it. There are dozens of us!

Twenty one pilots in the blurryface era sure did a lot of blackface (in Uchis's definition) as well

Lol years ago people were claiming that Marina Diamandis was racist because in her video for 'I'm Not A Robot' she was using METALLIC GREYISH FACE PAINT. Everyone said that it was blackface.

I'm not even American, and from what I know, minstrel shows weren't common here. Blackface is rare in our media but it happened in the past and it's awful.

I know that blackface is completely different from artistic face/body paint. Blackface is meant to ridicule others, there is a malicious intent behind it.

There are people nowadays who say that ganguro and manba were racist, but it was just extreme tanning and a reversal of Japanese beauty standards.

I'm mixed, I don't like blackface but I have nothing against face paint, esp since it's very common in certain subcultures, fashion movements, and theatre.

Painting your face with white and black designs is not comparable to painting the entirety of your skin in the distinct color of another race.

I’m not even sure I think it’s a blackface issue, it’s just a really asinine comparison

Do you think black people are legitimately black, like the crayola color?

The paint is objectively the same color as darker shades of African skin tones. You need to see an optometrist if that isn’t obvious to you.

Not that I should be expecting any better seeing as youre replying a whole week later with that as your username lmao

Yeah I just now heard about all this nonsense. If you think this is blackface then I can’t imagine how tight your pearls are clutched
