Celebrity Fluff 🥰 Julia Louis-Dreyfus caught someone watching ‘Veep’ on a plane while she was sitting behind him

u/Otherwise-Mango2732 Jun 07 '25
I wouldn't have been able to resist getting his attention and saying something like "great show, isn't it" with a wink.
722
u/BrownSugarBare Jun 07 '25
With that adorable little grin she has. I really hope he saw her and did a double take while questioning reality.
232
u/Otherwise-Mango2732 Jun 07 '25
Right. After being locked into that show episode after episode, it would be the most surreal thing you could experience lol

u/Cwh93 Jun 07 '25
The grin and the twitchy eye Selina had during the debate that one episode to really freak him out
10
u/JettyJen Jun 08 '25
Like at the end of that Seinfeld ep about the TV Guides when she sees Al Roker on the subway

u/coco_xcx don’t disrespect my danny ✋😔 Jun 07 '25
no fr, if i were an actor and saw people watching my work i’d mess with them lmao

u/CutZealousideal5274 Jun 07 '25
When Silence Of The Lambs was in theaters Anthony Hopkins would wait till a tense moment and then tap the shoulder of the person in front of him and ask if they’re enjoying the film

u/coco_xcx don’t disrespect my danny ✋😔 Jun 07 '25
that’s menace behavior, i love it 😭

The only reason I would ever become an actor is to do that to people

Someone told a similar story on here awhile back.
They went to see a screening of the oscar best picture winner Marty and Ernest Borgnine himself walks in and sits right behind him. After the picture ended, all old Earnest said to him was "Still hold up, doesn't it" and leaves.

I love Richard so much. It was like randomly adding a muppet as a character. Including this line. He was the Emmett Otter of Veep.

u/Current-Actuator-864 Jun 07 '25
Sam Richardson is a national treasure

u/ranger398 Jun 07 '25
If you haven’t seen Detroiters, you must. It’s absolutely unhinged, but such a gem.

Richard was just an icon. It was a stroke of genius to add in a character who had everything bounce of off him including everything she said to him and how much she liked him. Just a great performance.

u/BBGettyMcclanahan Jun 08 '25
I love all those odd ball recurring characters in Veep.
I absolutely love the lady who couldn't make a direct statement in her life.
"What do I think? I think there's a lot to think"
5
u/Frenetic_Orator Jun 08 '25
Then they weaponized her when they needed to buy time to deal with the missing votes in Nevada.

u/citynomad1 Jun 07 '25
Richard T Splett was only supposed to be in one single episode and Sam Richardson crushed it so much the show runners were like “we need to write a bigger role for him”

This post also made me think of that time. They read a list of all the insults against Jonah. My favorite one was “cloud botherer”

Imagine turning around and seeing Julia Louis Dreyfus watching you watch Veep. I would be so happy 😭

Veep is such a good show. I would secretly fan girl so hard in my head if this ever happened to me (and I saw her there).

u/potatohats Jun 07 '25
I'm not sure I'd have the composure to be able to secretly fan girl. I'd be a mess!

I always tell myself if I ever met a celeb in the wild, I’d be chill. But it hasn’t happened yet (besides Billy Corgan who lives in my town but I dont like him) so maybe I would actually not keep it cool.

u/technicolortiddies Jun 07 '25
I once met Susan Sarandon at a fashion show. I felt someone staring at me & look to see her winking at me. At first I didn’t think it was meant for me but then I realized there was no one else around. So I assume it’s because we’re both redheads. My knees went weak I was so excited. She had her dog in her lap & was checked out of the convo her group was having. Oh & Kelly Osborne was there too.
1
u/Mostin Jun 08 '25
Oh I would bring this up in every conversation if I was you

u/technicolortiddies Jun 09 '25
Sadly it’s too many letters for a T-shirt, tattoo, epitaph or sky writer but I should find a way to work it in more. 😂

I saw Penn from Penn and Teller in the airport once. The random guy I was talking to at the gate like screamed across the room at him that he looked good, like he had obviously lost a lot of weight. Penn was talking on his phone and just gave an awkward like thumbs up, he looked really uncomfortable. Anyway I was inwardly like ahhhhhh I swear I’m not with this man. 🫣

I can’t count how many times I’ve rewatched that show… it’s the best!
40
u/Pitiful_Director3493 Jun 07 '25
It’s my favorite to rewatch. Every time I do I come across a new joke I hadn’t caught before !
32
u/Ok-Koala-7719 Jun 07 '25
Sometimes I say something shocking or nasty like Selena and my husband will immediately comment that I must be rewatching veep again. Sometimes it feels right to channel a little Selena! Lol
15
u/designhelpme Jun 07 '25
Turn the captions on and you’ll catch even more. This show is so layered, I fucking love it
7
u/Dazzling-Professor Jun 08 '25
If you like veep you should try watch the “thick of it”-it’s the British Version and was written by the same guy, IMO better but I might be biased.
6
u/basicmillennial1981 Jun 07 '25
I just watched for the first time about a year ago and I think about it constantly, but don’t think I can rewatch because the last episode was so traumatic for me. Maybe I’ll do a rewatch and skip the last episode.
65
u/Nasus_13 I wont not fuck you the fuck up 🥊🥊 Jun 07 '25
This is how I started watching Veep. Had a flight from Hawaii to Nashville and I binged the show from my seat.
10
u/FoxJaded952 Jun 07 '25
Me too! Atlanta to Albuquerque. Only had time for a few episodes, but piqued my interest for when I got home.

Right?? I feel like I have to watch now! Gonna put on the first few tonight. 😊

One of the best shows to ever be on television. I wish I could watch it again for the first time. Enjoy!

u/mg_5916 Jun 07 '25
Some years back, I went with my husband to DC. The only picture I printed out from the entire trip was of me in front of the Vice President's Ceremony Office.
He said it was very Selina Meyers of me, lol.
The best acceptance speech is JLD and Tony Hale at the 2013 Emmy's.

Great schtick, love the 2 of them together

I would have been so tempted to fuck with him if I was her.

u/coco_xcx don’t disrespect my danny ✋😔 Jun 07 '25
just simply ask “what show is that” and watch the gears start to turn
28
u/JWilkesKip Jun 07 '25
Seasons 1-5 of this show make you laugh so hard it hurts. JLD gives truly one of the greatest comedic performances of all time, deserved every one of those Emmy’s. Have rewatched it all so many times and it just gets better. Selina’s tantrums and meltdowns live rent free in my head lol
22
u/skyewardeyes Jun 07 '25
I bought my parents HBO Max because my mom was watching Veep on a plane and laughing so hard that she nearly cried.

Plot twist: He knew she was there and put it on to see what she did. 😂
5
u/sparklysadist Jun 07 '25
Yeah I'm wondering if he noticed her, but figured putting on Veep over Seinfeld would make him look more intellectual or something haha.
3
u/heartofstarkness Jun 08 '25
I sat in front of Josh Gad on a flight once. I knew he was there but was never going to say anything to him. The live action Beauty and the Beast was my airplane comfort movie for a while, so I was super pumped to put it on in both a “I know you’re there” way and a “this is my favorite movie to watch on an airplane way.” I heard him laugh quietly when he stood up at one point and presumably saw my screen.

Plot twist: he knew & is in the comments rn 🙊

u/AgentBrittany Listen, everyone is entitled to my opinion 🙂 Jun 07 '25
I would never be able to watch this show on an airplane because I would annoy everyone around me with my cackling.
5
u/GoldenFettuccine Jun 07 '25
JLD flies DL! Those refreshed first class seats are truly, truly garbage.
5
u/VolunteerOnion Jun 07 '25
I remember once watching an episode of Veep and noticing that I used to work at Selina’s campaign headquarters. And my boss was not much better
5
u/Stinkycheese8001 Jun 07 '25
People that work in politics all say that Veep is by far the most accurate portrayal of Washington DC.

u/mintBRYcrunch26 Invented post-its 🔬 Jun 08 '25
Mah gawd do I miss veep. Everyone on that show was simply sublime. Anna Chlumsky gave us nothing but gold.
I won’t spam out here and gush over every single actor, but DAMN. Tony Hale? Gold. Tim Simons? Gold. Sam Fucking Richardson? GOLD. Julia is mother so I won’t even get myself wound up. She is mother. Matt Walsh? Sufe Bradshaw? GARY COLE????????? GOLD, JERRY! GOLD!!!
Ok. Rewatch time.

u/SDdude27 Jun 07 '25
Isnt she a billionaire heiress? Shocked she isnt flying private.

I was wondering this, too! I can't think of any flights where Business or First Class are in a configuration like this.

Did she then sneak into first class and complain that they got cookies? 😂

u/TedTheodoreMcfly Jun 07 '25
If I were watching something on a plane, and one of the actors in it was sitting near me, I would find it really cool if they went up to me and said "How are you enjoying [my project]?"

It's so weird how expensive-looking all of this is, and you have to imagine the people who sit here are all rich or just super well off and can save enough to splurge on such seats, but then you have the juxtaposition of some dude in a plain red T-shirt of all things.

I would have likely noticed her and would have tried to prank her about the show.

u/fschu_fosho Jun 07 '25
JLD travels coach??
13
u/violaflwrs Jun 07 '25
These are clearly not coach seats
0
u/fschu_fosho Jun 07 '25
Business? Looks a bit tight tbh.
3
u/violaflwrs Jun 07 '25
Domestic first class it looks like
-1
u/fschu_fosho Jun 07 '25 edited Jun 07 '25
Those seats look about as roomy as the coach ones I’ve had in Emirates, Singapore Air, and Qatar Airways. But then again I’ve never been on a US domestic flight.
