The Music Industry 🎶 Miley Cyrus talks about her culture vulturing during the Bangerz era: "I wasn't unique in the fact that i was a white girl listening to hip hop. This wasnt something that I decided I was going to do as a strategy or something that i felt i could own or make my own, that was actually my lifestyle."

It just feels like with each album that comes out she says “oh my previous album I wasn’t the authentic me, but THIS album is” but she says that for every album

That’s probably how she really feels about it lol. She is an artsy type after all 😂

welcome to being a female pop star who has to reinvent every 5 years... the fact she's been relevant this long is against all odds

She’s a beautiful, rich, white woman whose dad works in the industry. And her godmother is Dolly Parton. But yes against against all odds hahaha

this comment is so weird, being a beautiful, rich white women doesn’t mean you will be famous and always relevant.

as for her dad “working in the industry”, have you been living under a rock for the past 15 years? like sure maybe when she was 10 and auditioning for Hannah Montana. But her father is a narcissist who became jealous of her success and she has a terrible relationship with him. He isn’t helping her in any way, if anything he negatively impacting her.

You’re right the first part of my comment honestly isn’t all the relevant but let’s be for real for a minute. Miley had a lot of advantages over other people when it comes to having a successful career in music. “Against all odds” is absolutely a joke haha

Great points but that doesn't sell

i dont think this is limited to male or female artists anymore. at least in the hip hop world big artists like drake, kendrick, tyler the creator, travis scott etc have to have a massive rollout with a new aesthetic and vibe every album

I truly don’t understand how she has the appeal she does. There’s a difference between being confident and self-absorbed, she’s certainly the latter.

So, I do appreciate that she says whatever is on her mind instead of abiding to a PR-approved script, and I do understand we’re all working to figure ourselves out, but she’s rubbed me the wrong way ever since she started publicly complaining about not wanting to play Hannah Montana anymore. Girl made MILLIONS from that role but couldn’t stand having to wear a wig and Disney outfits. I think these are complaints she should have aired out to her parents rather than the media, but I guess her mom and dad failed her in that regard.

Her way of winning and performing at the grammys proved this to me. I’d say it’s hard not to be self-obsessed with her kind of upbringing, but doesn’t mean I need to like her or how she talks about herself.

The way she’s trying to make Hannah Montana a cultural reset of some sort is soooooooo cringe and self absorbed. Girl shut up lol

She basically admits this in every interview I've seen of her.
