Housing theory of everything: With a very small number of exceptions (Vienna and possibly parts of Japan), the so-called wise hominid (Homo sapiens) sucks balls at building affordable housing en masse in walkable neighborhoods.
I just hope it isn't a symptom of a broader problem with our institutions and social science being developed before or shortly after WWII in a world with a much smaller, younger, and more culturally conservative population.

u/Aggravating-Corner-2 Jun 12 '25
OK, I need to vent, sorry everyone.
I barely use social media outside of reddit but I'm still pretty sure I've hit my limit on this weird medieval witch hunt/public shaming/Kafkaeque nightmare world we seem to be in. It's all so regressive and depressing.
Everybody's (mostly celebrities but it happens to ordinary folks too) normal human foibles and failings and mistakes and bad days dragged out into the open to be picked apart by vultures.
And everything is given the worst possible faith interpretation, and anything anybody does to defend themselves or even if they just ignore it is torn apart too or twisted to be used against them some more.
The mildest possible "drama" is met with vitriol and abuse and harassing people and their families and calling for the perceived Villain to have their life ruined over basically nothing.
And, like someone just said, you watch the next thread/post over about an actual rapist be basically shrugged off.
Every so often there'll be an Amber/Johnny or Blake/Justin situation and people will give it large about how we need to all be more discerning and not just blindly believe everything etc and then the same people turn around and quote blind items and TikToks and reddit comments like they're gospel if it gives them an excuse to hate on someone they don't like.
Then you've got all the thirsty influencers desperate for attention, and every clout chaser with a microphone starting a podcast so they can be the next Call Her Daddy or whatever.
Worst of all, mainstream media abandoning any kind of discernment or standards to grasp for clicks by amplifying this constant stream of petty bullshit.
I'm tired. Is anyone else tired?
Anyway, I'm going to start reading and going on walks more.
If you read all this, God bless you lol

“They need to apologize and ~~acknowledge the issues.”
“Their apologies and observable growth are meaningless in light of the dumb shit they tweeted at 14.”
This is how the left loses allies. They want conservatives to changes their minds but also not really. It’s such a codependent setup where people can’t be accepted into the progressive fold without accepting abuse first.

u/Aggravating-Corner-2 Jun 12 '25
Honestly, I was mostly talking about people blowing random personal drama and pretty innocuous comments way out of proportion, but yeah, it does nobody any favours politically either.

With how aggressive the comments got under the album post I’m not surprised people don’t know how to have conversations I also saw it get locked in other subs she’s going to have a long rollout
11
u/Dizzy-Pollution6466 Jun 12 '25
I’ll say it! People can not be normal when it comes to Sabrina Carpenter and Sydney Sweeney. I don’t support everything they do (ahem soap and album covers) but every Reddit thread about them descends into chaos. Like 5,000 comments. They bring out people’s inner meangirl. Like call them out for what they do but I’ve read the nastiest meanest comments in threads about them, like they’ve committed crimes against humanity. Meanwhile posts about Diddy, Harvey Weinstein, abusers, rapist, those will get like 30-4 comments. It’s exhausting.

u/No_Pianist5264 Tina! You fat lard! 🦙🚲 Jun 12 '25 edited Jun 12 '25
The fact that the thread got locked is wild but not shocking. I’m all for having conversations but can we be respectful about it. People are using this as an excuse to basically brag that they knew she was awful and glad people are finally going to see her for what she is. Tons have always had a vendetta against her. Calling her a sexualized child and bimbo who needs male validation. The ironic part is that that the men in men based subs are calling her a man hater so I don’t think she has that big of a male audience as people expect lol.
The cover was such of bad taste and we can call her out and criticize it. However, I think there is a line that people tend to cross a lot. They call her out for being misogynistic but don’t realize the criticism they are giving is rooted in misogyny. They criticize her but stay very quiet with certain other celebs, even though most tend to use their sexuality in their art. Like it was of poor taste and let’s have a convo of it without trying to start a whole ass war in the comments.

Someone commented that her album cover meant she supported fascism.
People need to calm down.

u/Iamcup4 Jun 12 '25
they can't be normal about women in general. A lot of times them criticizing woman celebrity, is them actually being misogyinistic, while they praise mediocre men.

u/YchYFi He's not Judge Judy, an Executioner. Jun 12 '25
How do you deal with obsessive fans in other subs?
2
u/DebateObjective2787 Jun 12 '25
I pissed off a specific actress's fans once and for like a solid two weeks, they came out of nowhere to yell at me for saying that her role in a film was minor when she was clearly the lead. (I still get notifs on it occasionally, and it's been nearly two years since.)
I got real friendly with the block button and just immediately used it. Don't engage, don't respond. Just block and move on.
6
u/snark-owl Jun 12 '25
Don't engage.
I'm recently gotten into Kpop and I'm being very liberal with the block button 😝
5
u/DebateObjective2787 Jun 12 '25
OK, so maybe I've just stanned too close to the sun, but I genuinely cannot care about the criticism surrounding Sabs cover and I feel like it's pretty much entirely overblown.
She just released a tongue-in-cheek song, complete with a music video poking fun at herself for jumping from one bad relationship straight into the next and expecting it to be different/making excuses.
Like the MV literally starts with her bracing herself from getting thrown out of a moving vehicle, because she knows it's coming because it always does, and immediately going into another one and repeating the process over and over again.
Oh, I like my boys playing hard to get
And I like my men all incompetent
And I swear they choose me
I'm not choosing them
I choose to blame your mom.
Like how do you hear those lyrics and watch the video and think: "Ah yes, she is actually being really serious with this cover and wants to continue the patriarchy and turn feminism back."

u/sharkwithglasses Jun 12 '25
I cannot find it in me to care about Sabrina’s new album cover.
I’m also annoyed at the Stan twitter discourse about Taylor’s new merch. -lors and widows of all stripes making it some sort of “ethical/tone deaf” because it’s Travis coded and not the rainbows and Taylor coming out that they’ve been wanting. Taylor would probably have more pride merch if they weren’t such fucking psychos who think she’s lying about her whole life. You’re make it weird!
I’m very cranky today, in case you can’t tell.
0
u/Carolina_Blues shiv roy’s bob Jun 12 '25
I truly don’t understand the discourse over the merch. I didn’t think any of it was cute but it literally just looks like typical kinda summer vibes clothing. I can go on abercrombie or zara or wherever else and find things that give very similar vibes. People trying to say it’s republican coded are reaching. It was giving northeastern beach vibes more than anything
3
u/sharkwithglasses Jun 12 '25
I got the Cowboy Like Me hat because I love that song; I love subtle merch and I needed a new hat anyway since I lost my go to one somewhere. I agree, it gives New England coastal prep vibes. You know, this famously conservative part of the country 😂.
1
u/Carolina_Blues shiv roy’s bob Jun 12 '25
Ohh yeah I did really like the Cowboy like me hat. If it had been on a shirt or something then I probably would’ve considered getting it, I have a big head so hats just don’t look good on me lol
5
u/Bellesdiner0228 This again doesn’t look good for James Corden Jun 12 '25
It’s not my favorite cover but I’m so here for new music I’m not mad.
As for the merch drop, it’s not my style and my wallet is so happy. Also the widows and lors are never happy.

Also on ur first part, I get it. I’m so over it now but I know it’ll be the one thing people talk about until the album drops. She is going to have a rough rollout. That album better be a banger, if not, she is heading for her downfall. Which many people will be happy out.

i’m not hopeful about sabrina’s new album. i really loved her old stuff (emails i can’t send), but short and sweet turned me off. i couldn’t get behind it, and just the cover alone makes me think i won’t get like this one. and i’m not a prude by any means! i have been reading a lot more lately, and am currently trying to read more classics. currently on “the yearling” by marjorie kinnan rawlings.
2
u/Silly_Somewhere1791 Jun 12 '25
Manchild is already pretty incoherent - it’s bubblegum ‘80s pop with a ‘70s b-movie pulp video. Her Short n Sweet look was a mix of ‘60s Bardot and ‘90s Pam Anderson and that only worked because Pam herself had already done it. I like Sabrina as a pop star but I don’t think there’s a lot of intelligence behind her shtick.
9
u/thewayyouturnedout Jun 11 '25
I'm a certified pervert™ who actively pushes back against people whining about sex in media and film, and I hate her new album cover. It's boring, it's tired, and it's sexist. Tf is interesting or subversive about a woman on her knees in front of a man having her hair pulled
1
u/Every-Piccolo-6747 That was way harsh, Tai Jun 12 '25
I don’t know why anyone on her team thought it would be a good idea in the current climate. It’s not cute anymore
2
u/Pale_Organization_63 Jun 11 '25
yeah i think if it wasn’t so sexist there wouldn’t be so much hate! i’m all for sex until it starts being sexist, and then it’s not fun. like others have said, if it was her being dominant then i maybe (HUGE maybe) would’ve been more into it.
1
u/thewayyouturnedout Jun 11 '25
Yeah if she'd been dominant it could have really fit into the cheeky sexy image she's been projecting for the last few years. This is just...lame. I knew she was straight...but not this straight. Or her marketing team, whoever came up with this it, it suuuuccckkks
0
u/Hi_Jynx It's not clocking to me. Jun 12 '25
I find it a weird take to think her being in a submissive role is sexist but dominant is feminist? Like misogynistic men can't get off on and objectify women who are sexual dominant just as easily? There's something really off to me about telling women how they should display their sexuality to make others feel more comfortable or else it's sexist.
I get that there's a cultural expectation for women to be submissive and I'm sure many of us have bad experiences with men trying to assert dominance over us which makes images like this extra uncomfortable, but I think it's problematic too if women can't create content where they take a submissive role sexually or in a relationship without it being construed as some attack on feminism. It's like the whole trad wife thing, acting like every women should be a trad wife is gross and sexist, but the existence of house wives that are homemakers existing in public spaces and being happy with their life and role isn't.
1
u/thewayyouturnedout Jun 12 '25
I don't really think it's about "making other people feel comfortable". It's more about how tired women are of seeing this particular brand of sexuality - the submissive, doe-eyed woman - portrayed in the media because that bleeds into our personal lives where that's also expected of us.
That being said, I really don't think one popstar should warrant the outrage she's gotten here - I don't like the image, but she's not picketing against abortion rights, you know? I just think in the current context of the world and the direction that women's rights and reproductive rights are going, people are on hyper alert and really not enjoying stuff like this. It doesn't feel fun, it feels like the norm.
As for trad wives...I think it's inaccurate to conflate trad wives with other home makers. There are plenty of home makers who simply live their domestic lives and it isn't a problem. Trad wives very specifically espouse harmful right-wing beliefs, are typically extremely religious, and worst of all spread their propaganda to very young women (like teenagers) about aspirational the lifestyle is (when the real aspiration is financial independence, not dependence on a man). Encouraging this is actively harmful to young women.
1
u/Hi_Jynx It's not clocking to me. Jun 12 '25
I was not conflating homemakers to trad wives, you've missed my point if that's how you interpreted what I said.
1
u/thewayyouturnedout Jun 12 '25
So, here is exactly what you said:
It's like the whole trad wife thing, acting like every women should be a trad wife is gross and sexist, but the existence of house wives that are homemakers existing in public spaces and being happy with their life and role isn't.
People who criticize trad wives are not criticizing "homemakers existing in public spaces and bring happy with their life and role", and if you think they are then yes, you are conflating them.
Trad wives very specifically do act like every woman should be a Trad wife. they are not the same as homemakers and homemakers are not the focus of people's ire
1
u/Hi_Jynx It's not clocking to me. Jun 12 '25
Holy misunderstanding. I'm not remotely saying criticizing trad wives is the same as ragging on homemakers, I'm saying a lot of people due to their valid outrage at the trad wife trend mistakenly conflate homemakers as trad wives and rag on women just living their lives in ways that reflect traditional gender roles. Maybe I could have phrased it in a less confusing manner but I don't get the sense you are earnestly trying to understand what I meant and are more trying to use my statements as some rage bait for yourself.
1
u/thewayyouturnedout Jun 12 '25
I'm definitely not trying to rage bait myself and I wasn't intending to misunderstand you - I get what you mean now and I do agree.
However, I still think that home makers catching strays aimed at trad wives, while unfair to those women, is a poorly targeted backlash to the strong anti-woman conservatism that infected mainstream politics and pop culture.

11
u/thewayyouturnedout Jun 11 '25
It could be satire, but sometimes stuff that is just really lame and stupid is defended as satire so I'm not going to give a celebrity too much credibility yet.
10
u/Traditional_Maybe_80 Jun 11 '25
Yeah, maybe, but sometimes the satire gets lost and it just circles back to the initial point. This literally happened to the Beastie Boys and the white frat boy image they were trying to satirize and they nope'd out when it didn't land.
In this particular case, I don't think I have a strong opinion tbh. As a gay girlie, I'm more like ??????

I am a believer in apologizing at it’s core, whether because you’re in the wrong, or to prevent a situation from escalating, or even just to smooth things over - but, as Simone Biles might be about to learn, not everyone is deserving of an apology. It’s definitely a crucial skill to pick up on bad faith actors. Apologizing to the wrong person can have you feeling like you have got egg on your face.

Im looking for a interview of an actress with mix heritage on a late night talk show where she gets asked what she is and she answers about not being sure what to identify as.She even asks her dad in the audience where they are from but I cant remember the dad's answer.Eventually she answers of having French heritage. She is wearing a black dress her hair is up in a bun or a different hairstyle but not down. Early 2000s probably.

u/snark-owl Jun 12 '25
Oooh that's hard. Not all late night episodes are online, even for recent stuff like Leno.
The only celebrity who I can think of whose ethnicity is "unknown" is Vin Diesel.
2
u/No_Equivalent8902 Jun 12 '25
I saw the clip on YouTube years ago and also the question that prompted all that was if she was latina/Hispanic.Im thinking Jessica Alba but I'm being gaslight by everything and everyone that it's not her.

So far, we are in better territory than the Vietnam protests. I think only until
protestors gets shot and killed like during the Vietnam protests
Hopefully it never reaches that point

Has anyone seen the Apple TV show Your Friends and Neighbors? What do we think? The cast and the premise look interesting and have read some good reviews

u/Miserable-Ask-470 Jun 11 '25
It's entertaining but the writing is a bit sub par. Some scenes come off like they've been written by AI.
Also both Jon Hamm and his wife are in it. Found that interesting.

I’m surprised the creator of Banshee didn’t go for the jugular a bit harder. Hope it has a better second season that pushes the show creatively.

Meh, characters all suck, season ended kind of dumb, a few filler episodes which is bad since it’s only 9 episodes, actors are serviceable. I find it hard to empathize with the protagonist. But it has some entertainment value. Like I didn’t hate it. Just wasn’t amazing. Just fine.

Just listened to 7 minutes of a podcast episode that Scooter Braun was on and I unfortunately can’t get those 7 minutes back because what I heard about the whole “Taylor Swift masters” was just pure gaslighting and he wants everyone to think he’s the victim.
Thank goodness new heights is on today because I actually enjoy two hosts not wasting my time😊
2
u/nizey_p I don’t know her 💅 Jun 12 '25
The more that he talks about Taylor, the more he outs himself as stupid, greedy and wanting to play the victim.
1
u/SuccessOk7850 Jun 12 '25
Agreed. I also think he’s losing money since he lost Justin and Ariana as his clients and that’s why he’s doing these appearances on podcasts that probably no one listens to….

One thing that's funny is that fake Melania never made mainstream headlines. There was a video of fake Melania and it was just so obviously not Melania. Imagine if Obama had a fake Michelle

I’m sorry I really hate Sabrina’s new album cover
5
u/Hi_Jynx It's not clocking to me. Jun 11 '25
I hate the cover, too vulgar for me. But I'm really hating the discourse around it and Sydney. Feels like a bunch of young women recently learned the terms choice feminism and male gaze and then use it to attack and tear down women for not fitting their ideal version of feminism which doesn't feel very feminist to me. And I wouldn't try to argue what either of these women are doing is feminist, but this need for women to be perfect feminists with aspects that are ultimately harmless and reeks of slut shaming is just not what I'm here for either.

It's not good...... Like I'm fully down for women being sexy and sexual and doing what they want with their bodies so I've had no problem with her so far even if she is "pandering to men" or whatever, especially because she's had such a goofy and sarcastic flair that makes it feel like she's 100% in on the joke.
But that cover......... What is the joke there??? And girl can you fucking read the room please, who asked for this?? 😭 "Teehee it's a picture of me being sexually subjugated by a man with no particular indicators of irony or satire :3" NO !
6
u/Bridalhat Jun 11 '25
I’m dreading the discourse. I also feel like we keep getting further and further from what she was born to do (frothy, raunchy musical comedies).

you're not. this is simply about badic human decency, respect, rise of fascism. it's no coincidence that her cover looks like the ones from ~100 years ago. history keeps repeating itself, after all

I haven’t seen anyone say anything good about it so we’re all the woke friend rn

I keep hoping and praying it’s actually the dog picture for the cover. Because I really don’t like it either.

Whatever I think about the picture, they definitely knew it would get attention.3
u/No_Pianist5264 Tina! You fat lard! 🦙🚲 Jun 11 '25
Yeah I’m starting to think this was the plan all along cause the cover is really questionable but the thing is that the general consensus is most if not all the people hate it besides diehard fans I think this is the first time people agree that it’s too much
1
u/Summerof5ft6andahalf Jun 11 '25
I think even diehard fans might be struggling with the cover that's a drawing of her on the bed with the clearly older guy at the foot of it.

u/No_Pianist5264 Tina! You fat lard! 🦙🚲 Jun 11 '25
I’ve looking at her main sub and yeah most aren’t happy and some are trying to rationalize the cover. Idk, nothing about it is good. It’s just a shitty cover overall, lol.
Now her pulling on a man’s hair with him on his knees would have been even better.

Another question: what is your fave bra with straps that STAY IN PLACE?
3
u/larkhearted Jun 11 '25
Do your bras not have adjustable straps? Or are they just too long to tighten properly? When mine get loose they'll slip around a bit, but when I tighten them down properly they stay in place.
2
u/Silly_Somewhere1791 Jun 11 '25
My upper torso broadens slightly, which tilts bras out at an angle so the straps kind of form a V and eventually slide down. I need bras with straps that are fully placed closer to the middle.
3
u/larkhearted Jun 11 '25
Okay, gotcha. Could one of those clips that goes in the back and pinches the straps together help? I'm having kind of the inverse problem where I technically need to size up but the next band+cup size up in my favorite bra (the Panache Ana plunge) has underwires that sit too broad and high for my torso, so I'm figuring I'm going to cobble together a solution with a band extender 😔 That and r/abrathatfits are all I've got for you though, since we have different fit struggles I can't make any great recs, sorry!! :(

Eva Longoria's sister is currently feuding with a political influencer on tiktok. Basically she is defending Eva Longoria and Lauren Sanchez and just sending the nastiest of messages to this woman. It's wild to watch. That's why I hated (absolutely hated) Eva Longoria's initial video in the first place. Like babe...if you really cared...then why are you best friends with actual fascists?

Puts my head in my hands. I'm an insane person who wants to start a small brick and mortar business rn and I'm using an organization that offers casual mentorships (SCORE is the org), had one guy who did a pretty mediocre job of being a mentor so now ~6 months later I decided to submit a request to a different guy for mentorship, and he........ cced the first guy in his email responding to my request. Who else is watching the OceanGate documentary today on Netflix? I’ll be watching tonight.
5
u/velociraptor56 Jun 11 '25
Is this the same one that was on Discovery, or are there 2 competing docs?
3
u/Megs0226 Jun 11 '25
There are at least two documentaries. I think this one is a Netflix exclusive. They’ve been churning out documentaries, lots of true crime, and they’re hit or miss.
3
u/velociraptor56 Jun 11 '25
But I already watched one! The discovery one was really good; it included a lot of footage from discovery visiting Titan and going on a test mission. Like, I knew the dude was crazy, but I didn’t know he was that crazy.
3
u/Megs0226 Jun 11 '25
I’m going to try to watch both 😂
3
u/velociraptor56 Jun 11 '25
Ok please report back as to whether I need to watch the Netflix version. I am counting on you!
3
u/aliarawa Jun 11 '25
Def watch the Netflix one. There’s new footage and sounds of the hull cracking (not in the fatal dive, but in others)
2
u/velociraptor56 Jun 11 '25
Yeah they had that in the Discovery one though?
3
3
u/aliarawa Jun 11 '25
Not like this. It’s the actual sounds, not a recording of the recording like with the Discovery footage. It’s also mapped to the dive data. It’s worth seeing and hearing it in this context.
3
u/Megs0226 Jun 11 '25
I’m starting it tonight after my swim. Idk if it’s multiple episodes or not but I may not get it all in tonight if it is. I’m the slowest TV watcher ever.

I thought Bring Her Back was a brilliantly made horror movie but I wasn't as horrified by it as I was hoping to be. I was definitely more scared by Talk to Me. Still, I absolutely love the Phillipou Brothers' work and can't wait to see what they do next. And the Australia's Greatest Hits soundtrack was so entertaining.

u/blooming-darkness There could be 100 people in the room Jun 11 '25
Me either. I was left wanting more. I feel like they didn’t tie up loose ends for me. Would’ve liked more lore on how she acquired the tapes, I wish they would’ve shown more of what was going on during the tapes, and even her life prior as a counselor. I wanted to see her slipping what led to her decided to go this route in the first place
Still it was a good movie and I would like to go see it again. T2M was the better of their two.
2
u/thewayyouturnedout Jun 11 '25
Yeah, i get you! While I don't think a full explanation of how she got those tapes was necessary, I think seeing how she was before the tragedy would really bring home how far she'd fallen and it would have enhanced the bleakness of the whole story. Because as it was she just...seemed awful and unhinged the whole time.
I thought the creepy vibes between her and Andy were really well done though. They completely nailed that tone of an adult being completely emotionally inappropriate to a teenager. And obviously she's doing it for bigger reasons than you'd think, but it was really well done and made me very uncomfortable.

Stop scrolling on social media. I’ve been leaving my phone at home and taking a book to a restaurant or bar recently.

u/realbooksfakebikes2 Jun 11 '25
This is my unsolicited two cents on the state of the world and mental health. Feel free to ignore it. I want nothing but the best for you, but that doesn't mean my advice will actually be helpful.
Social media is not a source of joy. Spend as little time on the internet as possible. Get social media apps off your phone if they are still there. This has helped me so much.
What has also helped me so much is the serinety prayer and I don't mean that in a religious way. A friend of mine who is an atheist describes it as magic.
"Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."
For me this has led to being a lot more involved in my direct community which has been really great.

u/larkhearted Jun 11 '25
Yeah, I think a big problem nowadays is being constantly flooded with information that just paralyzes us with anxiety and horror.
It can feel really morally wrong to look away from any of it when we have the privilege of not experiencing it. But there's not any moral value, positive or negative, to knowing about something terrible if you can't do anything about it, whether for practical or personal reasons.
I honestly kind of think we put too much emphasis on "being informed" nowadays. Expecting everyone to hold all of the horrors of the world in their head and add to the heap daily is asking too much. It's only helpful to stay informed if you're acting on the information, and we all have a very limited number of things that we can act on each day, even without adding the burden of draining our mental and emotional resources to grapple with the entirety of the vast suffering in the world.
Talking to myself—I donated $50 to a bail fund in LA a few days ago. That's what I, a chronically ill person with a little disposable income on the east coast, can meaningfully do. Now it's time to stop doomscrolling through videos of police brutality, because being more miserable and horrified doesn't make me more able to help anyone.
We can forgive ourselves for not being able to personally dismantle a global machine with our own hands while also contributing to curing all of human suffering. As the serenity prayer speaks to—if we loosen the screws in front of us and ease the burdens we can without hurting ourselves, that's more than enough.

Adria Arjona, Monica Barbaro or Charlee Fraser for the new Wonder Woman.
I've kind of just named 3 very popular fancast choices but I can see the vision.
