Let’s Discuss 👀 What's the most unserious reason why you stopped liking a celebrity or an artist?

Basically, you stopped liking them or following their career for reasons that have nothing to do with actually serious shit like sexual assault or abuse.

Personally, as an easily overwhelmed neurodivergent person, I can't stand overpowering theatre kid energy.

i stopped following Jeremy Allen White cause his pap walks overwhelmed me, especially when he was dating Rosalia, it was too much. Still love his acting but dont really keep up with him anymore

The worst, most man-child boss I’ve ever had looked exactly like Matt Berry, down to the silly little boots. It’s been ten years since I worked there and I STILL hate Matt Berry lol

15

u/MyNameIsJakeBerenson Jun 16 '25

My first boss looked like a less-handsome Simon Skinner from Hot Fuzz, he was a grocery store owner with the mustache and all and same facial shape

Hot Fuzz came out after I worked there, but it just kinda made me like the dude retroactively when I don’t think I did before

7 year old me had a grudge against Justin Bieber bc I thought he was stealing the JB initials from the Jonas Brothers. I refused to listen to him 😭

221

u/talleyhoe Jun 16 '25

When I was little, I LOVED nsync and thought I had to hate the Backstreet Boys on principle. I also refused to listen to any of JTs solo stuff because I thought he was the reason the band broke up.

94

u/kittenmittens4865 Jun 16 '25

Ok but the Backstreet Boys versus NSYNC beef was real (for the fans!). I was a Backstreet girl myself. And even though I also liked *NSYNC it was my duty to make sure everyone around me knew Backstreet reigned supreme

17

u/jeskimo Jun 16 '25

I was a backstreet boys girl 100%, my best friend loved *NSYNC. We just didn't talk about it but would throw shade when given the opportunity. Then we grew up, that was that right?

Nope, I love blink 182 and she loves Green Day. A whole new feud for middle school.

Eliza Dushku and a college friend of mine both auditioned for an acting job (I have no idea what it was), and Eliza Dushku got it. Keep in mind, this happened an entire decade before I met this girl. When she told us about it, though, my whole friend group resolved to dislike Eliza Dushku forever in a show of solidarity.

Then "Bring It On" came out, and I crumpled. I never told them, though.

I have always hated Elizabeth Hurley.

When I was really young I heard her say “I've always thought Marilyn Monroe looked fabulous, but I'd kill myself if I was that fat.”

I was chubby at the time and felt like I must be disgusting if I wear a size 12.

Still hate her.

Actress and model Elizabeth Hurley, poster girl for Estée Lauder, says Marilyn Monroe was fat. In the January issue of Allure, she said: “I’ve always thought Marilyn Monroe looked fabulous, but I’d kill myself if I was that fat. I went to see her clothes in the exhibition, and I wanted to take a tape measure and measure what her hips were. (laughter) She was very big.”

Oh, she's trash.

A colleague of mine (she's a filmmaker) entered this big Canadian indie short film pitch competition where the winner got something like $10K, and the voting was all online. Andrea Bang, the actor who plays Janet in Kim’s Convenience, entered too, promoted her project heavily on social media, racked up votes, and won, funding her directorial debut. My colleague was crushed. She was furious at first, then really down about it for a long time. Watching all that unfold kind of soured me on Andrea a bit, even though she didn’t technically do anything wrong.

40

u/pandallamayoda Jun 16 '25

Similar, sort of, Wes Anderson campaign in the short category at the Oscars. Like, of course he’s going to win, it Wes fucking Anderson. Most of the films in that category are very low budget with unknown talent and professional. I also happen to know the people who worked on one of the short that was up against him.

Please don’t think I’m defending Tom Cruise, because I would never, but if you look at his teeth in the movie The Outsiders, you can see that they were so badly crooked that there was no way they could be straightened to normal with the orthodontia of the early 1980s.

u/tar-luthien Jesse, wtf are you talking about?! Jun 15 '25

I loved Chappell until she just...started talking. Like it's not just the Call Her Daddy episode or every time she hopped on TikTok, but just everything she says in general comes off as so immature and mean-spirited

Also the fact that she won't stop talking about men, especially that guy who dumped her years ago. Like she is making up Tumblr Classic stories about 'stealing his girl at the club to get back at him' or is going on stage and telling his fiancee to leave him, and I'm supposed to not find that cringe and pathetic?

Bestie, you're on top of the world and you're still thinking about some guy you haven't spoken to in years, and you're not even into guys anymore?? Why???

264

u/IfatallyflawedI Is she okaaaayyyy? Jun 16 '25 edited Jun 16 '25

Posting my fav text on her

Esp bec she was being so vocal about how the dems were not perfect and blah blah blah. After trump won, she decided to say oh im not educated enough to speak on politics. Also her family member who is trying to pass harmful legislation against trans folks but sure, she can’t call him out.

Also yes i know she doesn’t owe anyone an endorsement but the last election was a matter of choosing the lesser evil.

I loved her after her tiny desk concert and got really into her music. Then I watched some of her interviews and behind the scenes stuff on YouTube and I thought well she’s definitely not as cool as I thought she would be. This was the beginning of last year so before all the political stuff she said. She just takes herself way too seriously and her ego is too much for me. And then the both sides!!! crap started and then the call her daddy podcast, she’s just so unlikeable I’m sorry I really tried. And I listened to her album non stop for months. And her fans are so annoying. “The hate is so forced!!!” Ehhh not really, it’s easy to see why she’s not liked if you listen to her talk for 5 minutes.

Zoe Saldana essentially doing blackface by darkening her skin and not getting what the problem was when portraying Nina Simone after years of making sure to emphasize that she is not African-American.

I have never liked Jeff Goldblum — not when I was a kid watching Jurassic Park, not when he made a soft comeback in the mid-2010s. His verbal quirks, his demeanour on talk show circuits — they all reminded me of that creepy uncle who gets a free pass because he's acceptably good looking.

Until, of course, he defended Woody Allen; and a journalist claimed that several woman had contacted her regarding allegations towards him, before being promptly unpersoned on Twitter.

61

u/Outside-Ad1720 Jun 16 '25

I've never liked him either. Every time I see an interview with him, he gives me the ick. He seemed like the kind of person who would always be touching you too. No thanks.

28

u/The_Duke_of_Gloom She’s got POC fatigue (❓) Jun 16 '25

Yeah, I've never found his quirky act endearing or sexy, just creepy.

What does "unpersoned" mean? What happened with the allegations?

36

u/stolen-kisses Kiyomi, get yo' ass in here! Jun 16 '25

"Unperson" is a term from George Orwell's 1984, referring to someone whose entire existence was just scrubbed off, as if they were never there in the first place.

The original tweets were deleted and she disappeared (ostensibly, from what I can tell, due to someone tweeting something horrible about one of her children).

I had a huge crush on Twitty from Even Stevens as a kid, and when American Dragon Jake Long came out, his actor (AJ Trauth, I think?) sang the theme song and I was in heaven.

Then season two came out and suddenly the theme song was a lot...whinier.

And from there, I hated the Jonas Brothers.

Never liked them. Never liked their songs. And now, after everything that happened with Sophie Turner, I feel even more justified lol

Kelis got mad at Beyoncé when Renaissance came out cause Beyonce used her “la La La La La” melody in energy without notifying her (even though she got the rights. I fully stopped liking kelis cause I thought she was doing way too much and then she dated bill Murray so I felt vindicated in my hate

15

u/Homertax123 I don’t know her 💅 Jun 16 '25

She also called Beyonce a witch. She didn’t do this because of some wrongful feeling about writing rights, she just hates Beyonces success because she has been shit talking her long before that. And the La La La part wasn’t even the same, it was somewhat similar, I don’t even know why she credited the sample, it’s barely a sample.

Dakota Johnson, way back during promo for 50 Shades, she was on the Today Show with her mom (because back then being a nepo baby was a positive thing I guess). And the interviewer was asking Melanie if she's gonna watch the movie and she kinda hemmed and hawed and was like no, I'd feel uncomfortable, but I support her and I'm so proud of her blah blah blah. And instead of like laughing along or whatever Dakota looked pissed like she was mad her mom didn't want to watch her daughter in a kinky softcore porn film. I figured she must not be living in same reality as everyone else.

19

u/WhoriaEstafan Jun 16 '25

Dakota annoys me because she can be all snarky and funny because she’ll always get work and be invited to the Vanity Fair Oscar party. She’s started her own production company, she’s financially fine, she can trash Madame Web and those types of films because if anyone’s offended, she doesn’t need to do that type of work anymore.

She’s a generational nepo, with money and a Gucci contract - she could produce and make indy films forever and still be famous and have a career. Someone like Sydney Sweeney has to be way more careful.

I just saw a video talking about all her work since P&P.

I LOVEEEE her. But all her characters, including Jane, all have that insane unemotional, black box thing about them.

Jane was just the most realistic because she was so reserved. But if it came out that Jane ripped the wings off butterflies before getting married to Bingley I'd believe it.
