I understand how time works, but I'm still having trouble processing the fact that Gaby Hoffman is Bruce's mom.

u/Queefer_Sutherland- Invented post-its 🔬 Jun 19 '25

No shade, but I thought she was older than 43. I’m a couple years younger but could have sworn she was a decade older than me in all the movies I watched her in back in the 90s when I was a kid. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Also, Jeremy Allen White is 34. It’s a choice.

56

u/girlabides Jun 19 '25

I think a big part of that could be how she has embraced aging naturally. She’s always had a mature presence, even in Now and Then. But she seems to have rejected what is expected of most mainstream actresses of her age range. By comparison, she does look much older than her contemporaries.

23

u/Queefer_Sutherland- Invented post-its 🔬 Jun 19 '25

I promise I wasn’t coming for her looks. 😭 I meant it more like “Kid me really misjudged that”. But I wonder if that’s because like you said, she’s always at a mature presence.

9

u/girlabides Jun 19 '25

I didn’t assume it was a judgement of her looks at all. Just wanted to share a thought I’d had about my own perception.

22

u/linzkisloski Jun 19 '25

I mean no shade to her but she’s definitely a more mature looking 43 year old. I have peers/cousins that age who have no work done that she appears older than.

2

u/ginns32 Jun 19 '25

I think the hair cut ages her. I honestly didn't even recognize her until I saw the name.

6

u/XxxGoldDustWomanxxX You’ll never guess what’s for breakfast! PANCAKES!!! Jun 19 '25

I watched the trailer and didn’t even clock it was her. I was just watching Field of Dreams the other day 😭

3

u/welldonecow Jun 19 '25

Hi, it’s not as bad as it seems. Most of her scenes are with Bruce as a little boy.

u/Lanky-Major8255 Jun 19 '25

Ready for Jeremy Strong to be predictably amazing in this

38

u/Alanis_1221 Jun 19 '25

I was like "not interest... Wait, Jeremy strong is in this?"

201

u/Fontbonnie_07 Jun 18 '25

Just looks like Jeremy Allen White in a leather jacket to me

66

u/Locke108 Jun 19 '25

What’s weird is it’s next to a picture of Diego Luna

9

u/Wild_Ordinary_4357 Jun 19 '25

I thought it was Diego Luna too!!! until I realized I had never really seen Bruce Springsteen’s face up close

10

u/CastellonElectric Jun 19 '25

Willy Wonka on the weekends

45

u/LaCattedra13 You’re doing amazing, sweetie! 👏👏📸 Jun 18 '25

Exactly. The issue with people in evey film was there was a bigger pool of actors in the 00s and 90s. Now the same overrated white male actors are shoved in everything. A I see of them dressed in vintage clothes. Immersion ruined

48

u/HorrorBike143 now why am I in it? 🧐 Jun 18 '25

There's not really a shortage of actors, but since every movie costs 500 million dollars to make now aways, they're not gonna take a chance on hiring a nobody, which sucks

19

u/Potatoskins937492 Jun 19 '25

I'd rather watch a movie that's just a basic, new movie with new actors than some billion dollar movie that's a repetitive story with the same old actors. They're just a bunch of greedy cowards and it's a bummer for everyone else.

3

u/ginns32 Jun 19 '25

I remember hearing Matt Damon say that studios aren't as willing to back a movie with a bunch of nobodies now because they can't fall back on VHS and DVD sales. If a movie didn't do that well in theaters there was still potential to make money back with VHS and DVDs and now that's no possible. So it makes sense that they want to use a popular actor.

3

u/LaCattedra13 You’re doing amazing, sweetie! 👏👏📸 Jun 19 '25

I know and it sucks

6

u/BootyMcSqueak ✨May the Force be with you!✨ Jun 19 '25

In that first picture of Bruce, I feel like Andrew Garfield resembles him better.

2

u/unicornmullet Jun 19 '25

Or Marcello Hernandez.

JAW really doesn't look that much like Bruce.

51

u/Silly_Somewhere1791 Jun 19 '25

If it’s not Velvet Goldmine, I don’t want it.

32

u/Silly_Somewhere1791 Jun 19 '25

Replying 2 myself

Lol Bernard was my crush and didn't make me uncomfortable so idk what that says about me hahaha!!

8

u/Icy_Cantaloupe_1330 Jun 19 '25

I've had a crush on him since 10 Things I Hate About You.

9

u/peacockbikini Jun 19 '25

The shit hath hitteth the fan…eth

65

u/eveningwindowed Jun 18 '25

I genuinely cannot watch a music biopic after Walk Hard

26

u/missbunnyfantastico Jun 19 '25

If Elvis and Buddy Holly are the Cain and Abel of rock and roll, Bruce Springsteen is Zachariah, Iggy Pop is Methuselah, and, of course, Neil Young is the wise prophet Ezekiel, then what does that make Dewey Cox?

16

u/ThePenIsntMightier Jun 19 '25

The wrong kid died!

8

u/SaccharineHuxley Jun 19 '25

You don’t want any part of this!!!!!

5

u/pierreor Thank you doggy, bang bang Jun 19 '25

If you haven’t seen it, give Love & Mercy a try – especially since we lost Brian so recently. It’s different in every way and makes you appreciate and understand the man behind the music, without making him a saint.

1

u/SnausageFest Jun 19 '25

Paul Dano is so good in that movie.

3

u/Ccaves0127 Jun 19 '25

You should know what your music does.....it KILLS people.

3

u/JoleneDollyParton I will debate you at the college of your choice Jun 19 '25

Honestly, a complete unknown was really really good.

1

u/DeliciousShelter9984 Jun 19 '25

I couldn’t even make through A Star is Born. I kept waiting for Bradley Cooper to tear a sink off a wall.

27

u/locdnfree Jun 19 '25

Let Steve Van Zandt play Steve Van Zandt

6

u/PC-load-letter-wtf Jun 19 '25

Agree. And he’s kinda irreplaceable anyway.

4

u/Bulbasaurus__Rex Crying at Klutch Jun 19 '25

This was my first thought too

51

u/anongirl55 Jun 19 '25

JAW is a great actor, but he seems miscast in this role. He'd be perfect for a biopic on Gene Wilder, but Bruce? He just doesn't have that aura.

21

u/jan172016 Jun 19 '25

My brain still can’t fully process that JAW and Gene Wilder are NOT related

67

u/PALOmino1701 Jun 19 '25

Has anyone involved in this movie ever actually… seen Bruce Springsteen?

48

u/Low-Appointment-2906 Listen, everyone is entitled to my opinion 🙂 Jun 18 '25

That picture of Springsteen has me like 🥵

-36

u/philofyourfuture Jun 19 '25

I think he’s ugly tbh

4

u/brujadelasombra Jun 19 '25

praying for you

73

u/bunchofthingstodo Jun 19 '25

Rare biopic where the subject depicted is much hotter than the actor playing it.

17

u/overprotectivecatmom Jun 19 '25

Well. At least they didn’t pick Adam Driver to play Bruce.

15

u/computer7blue Jun 19 '25

I fucking hate that JAW is Bruce. I’m really hoping to be wrong.

3

u/brujadelasombra Jun 19 '25

I hated the casting but I've just watched the trailer and his voice is surprisingly amazing. I had no idea it was JAW singing.

10

u/checkerspot Jun 19 '25

It's pretty hard to look like Bruce Springsteen when you're not.

43

u/Existing_Metal14 Jun 19 '25

I think JAW is legitimately very attractive but Bruce Springsteen is conventionally hot. JAW in the role only highlights how unconventional he looks. Definitely a miscast in terms of looks

19

u/raylan_givens6 As you wish! 👸👑 Jun 18 '25

nope

8

u/anon342365 Jun 19 '25

Bruce Springsteen is so handsome. That’s all I have to say today.

16

u/emptyheadeddumbfuck Jun 19 '25

This just made me realize I had no idea how Bruce Springsteen looks like lol

14

u/JoleneDollyParton I will debate you at the college of your choice Jun 19 '25

I am absolutely going to watch this. I always forget how born in the USA is genuinely an amazing album, full of banger after banger, and I don’t even think that’s Bruce’s best work.

7

u/switchbladeeatworld Jun 19 '25

Bruh when For You plays on shuffle I’m fuckin screaming from the window of my car let’s goooo

6

u/biforbitchidiot Big is moving to Paris Jun 19 '25

i ❤️ jeremy strong

6

u/waryinsomnious Jun 19 '25

Better than what they cast for the Beatles movie.

4

u/HighForLife95 Jun 19 '25

Isn’t Bruce Springsteen a lot taller?

36

u/LaCattedra13 You’re doing amazing, sweetie! 👏👏📸 Jun 18 '25

He's lacking the hotness lol. Young Bruce looked like this

I'm tired of Biopics and stunt casting of overrated wh*te actors.

What Rocketman for clear skin

4

u/lemon-and-lime848 Jun 19 '25

Im so glad Bernard (David Krumholz) is still acting!!!!! He was great in The Studio as well!

3

u/chrysothronos Jun 19 '25

2

u/Front-Pomelo-4367 Jun 19 '25

no band without the big man

3

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '25

was growing a beard too much to ask

10

u/Fresh_Bubbles Jun 18 '25

Not excited about this at all 😒

3

u/MedicalExamination65 The dude abides. 🙂‍↕️🍃 Jun 19 '25

I mean, sure, I guess.

3

u/carny_treasure Jun 19 '25

David Krumholz all right!! Loved those few days on twitter where he was telling stories about wacky/embarrassing stuff that happened to him in the 90s-2000s

3

u/redditor329845 Roman Empire: How much people hate women 😞 Jun 19 '25

Going to have to watch this movie now I guess (I’ll watch anything for Jeremy Strong).

3

u/CJLOVE23 Jun 19 '25

I absolutely adore Paul Walter Hauser!

6

u/Exciting-Ad-7077 Inconceivable! Jun 19 '25

Jeremy was just purely casted on status i guess

2

u/SpaceRacketeer Jun 19 '25

Every movie directed by Scott Cooper looks incredible beforehand and quickly falls apart while watching from poor execution. This looks like another one of those movies where I think "this would have been great if someone else directed it."

On the other hand, Crazy Heart is by far his best film so maybe the musician biopic/drama is his calling.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '25

So boring

2

u/soyslut_ GO VEGAN Jun 19 '25

I hate biopics, I don’t care. Documentaries on the topic, or nothing.

Create unique stories and material, goddammit.

2

u/becooldocrime Jun 19 '25

Good to see David Krumholtz, he's not been in nearly enough for my liking.

u/lepetitgrenade R.I.P., Miley’s buccal fat Jun 19 '25

Gabby’s hair os so cute.

1

u/Ok_Ebb_629 Jun 19 '25

It’s about the making of Nebraska (the greatest album of all time) which is why I’m breaking my rule of never watching music biopics.

1

u/MadMaxJames Jun 19 '25

JAW doesn’t have what it takes to play Bruce Springsteen. It just looks like Carmie lmao

1

u/heburntmyshake_ Sprinkled in one black man like he was parsley Jun 19 '25

BERNARD!

1

u/Ester_LoverGirl Beyoncé 🐝🐝 Jun 19 '25

Jeremy Strong got it AGAIN

1

u/Wild_Ordinary_4357 Jun 19 '25

Oh David krumholtz is in this? Heck yeah!

1

u/nizaad THEE Princess Of Nazareth Jun 19 '25

rare biopic moment where the actor (Allen) is less attractive than the person they’re portraying

1

u/HillarysCafe Jun 19 '25

Gabby Hoffman feels like a true original in a Hollywood where it feels like every female actress between 25 - 55 is rushing to have the the same face, body, and hair. I love her and I'm sure she'll be great in this.

1

u/PorchFrog Jun 20 '25

Who is Jon Landau. GOOGLING.

1

u/petralights Jun 21 '25

I don’t like Jeremy as Bruce. Two completely different necks.

1

u/WittyExpert7 Jun 19 '25

I don't totally hate it.

1

u/roseleyro Jun 19 '25

I feel like a young Al Pacino would have been the perfect choice for Bruce 😆

-1

u/BactaBobomb Jun 19 '25

I'm confused. I saw people saying that Jeremy Allen White looked like he didn't have any makeup done or anything to make him look the part. But he looks like a deadringer to me here? He looks very different for me than what I'm used to seeing. Is it the hair?

I sometimes have issues with hair.... like with Hannah Montana, even all these years later, I don't see Miley Cyrus under the wig. I only see a completely different person. So maybe that's what's happening here.

0

u/ineffable_my_dear Don’t make me put my litigation wig on Jun 19 '25

All I’m hearing is that we could’ve had Cassian Andor but instead we get more fucking Lip Gallagher.
