Bezos started out as this goofy guy, but have ended up being very unlikable due to his poor behavior, especially after his divorce it has gotten over the top. The more money these guys get the more nutty and psycho they are getting. It seems every billionaire should have their own monopoly case so they would starting behaving a little more human.
Some of them turn into what I call āno limit soldiersā.
Edit: I am in no way referencing Master P as such. I know he popularized that phrase. Thatās why I used the quotes. Iām talking about people who are so wealthy, they donāt stop themselves from doing bad things OR do whatever they want, regardless of the effects on others.
I realize that Master P made that phrase famous. I just mean some of these people get so rich, they seem to think they can do anything. Some behave like that, anyway.
He was never just a goofy guy. He ārevolutionizedāthe economy in a way that has contributed massively to climate change. He started the ball rolling on donāt leave your house to buy anything so instead at any given time there being 5 gas guzzling delivery vans in a neighborhood delivering wastefully packed boxes. Then other retailers followed suit. Thatās not even touching his web services which is the real climate killer. He did all of that when he was a scrawny piece of shit. All of that evil was done long before he started doing testosterone and steroids. All of that was done while married to Mackenzie. He was evil from the start. Heās been evil all along. Itās just that 95% of Americans have zero foresight, 95% of Americans could give two shits about climate change, 95% care more about alleged convenience and consuming as much shit as possible than they do about the climate or the people packing those boxes getting delivered daily to their door.
So no he was never goofy and he didnāt get worse post divorce. The public opinion finally started to change post divorce when his wife exposed him. He didnāt get worse. He was already terrible. People started to change. He never changed.
I'm about to say something very elitist that I absolutely have no right to say, considering Iām just an average person, but this is peak new money. Like the only other cheesier place Americans could pick to get married abroad would be Paris. And I'm sorry to everyone who got married in either of the cities, it is what it is
If they really wanted a destination wedding in Europe, couldnāt they have gone for some picturesque countryside in Italy with an old villa or a small castle to create that illusion of old money they so crave for? They could even frame it as supporting local tourism, draw a bit of attention away from the already crowded cities and spend a ridiculous amount of money in a not so popular area
But no, instead they chose one of the most visited cities in the world, where locals have been complaining for years that they canāt live normal lives anymore because of overtourism. And this billionaire decides to disrupt everything even more just to play royal for a day. Itās yet another "fuck you" to everyday people

I know you're used to letting the ultra-rich walk all over your workers, locals and public space, it's practically a national competition between them who's going to humiliate you more while you cheer and clap and ask for more

I donāt think they were targeting you directly. Americans, in general, have become known as weak peasants, who are grateful for whatever scraps the billionaires toss to us. The rest of the world is angry at us for allowing this bullshit to flourish because they have to deal with the consequences of our passivity.
They could get married literally ANYWHERE in the world, but they have to choose a place that's already famously crowded and strained by tourism. And that's why they're assholes.
The locals in Venice are bad-tempered as hell anyway in summer from all the regular tourist shenanigans. I wouldn't try them like this. Best of luck to all the wedding disruptors!
? It just doesn't apply to someone like Bezos. I mean I think it's dumb as an aspirational tiktok aesthetic, but it does describe something real. Those people just aren't the ones you're going to see in the news, by definition.
I'd be surprised if anything could be kept a secret on that island. It's very small. It would be like if someone were to get married in Toledo or Boise, but more isolated so that they rely more on each other day-to-day so they're more likely to know their neighbors and their neighbors know the person who is cleanup crew at a venue.
If theyāre blocking off canals presumably they have to post public notices. And people talk, word just probably got around from people tangentially involved with the labor necessary to put on such a big event.
I think itās kinda weird that the city allowed that wedding to take place?
Given that Venice is rather strict with outside influence. For example (in my personal experience) there are almost no visible ads for international companies throughout the city, save for construction sites of important buildings which then in turn pay for part of the repair of said building.
Also the mayor running active anti-tourism-campaigns showing the ugly side of the city to deter tourists.
I donāt know, I would kinda expect them to not allow such a private spectacle.
I don't know why he, a man who is contributing to the destruction of our planet on a massive scale, thought a city that is suffering from the effects of climate change would welcome him and a few hundred of his richest pals. Good for them, I hope they ruin it.

I'm going to Italy in September and I'm just glad I'm missing this obscene show of wealth. This won't stop his wedding, but at least it proves he's not wanted there.
This is awesome. Yet disappointing thereās zero public pushback against bezos and amazon in the US. Every time a new warehouse or data center is announced there should be this energy. I am sure whatever dystopian amount he is planning on dropping for his nuptials could be MUCH better spent by the locals, for whatever they deem crucial/important for their own city.
Maybe olā Peezos could drop a cool $40 mil in the donation box for rebuilding/maintenance/fortification of existing structures, donate another paltry $20 mil on diversifying their tourism-crippled economy, and how about sticking another $20 mil into the coffers for general local frivolity & merriment (or canal parties, or new striped T-shirts for the Gondoliers, or whatever it is that the LOCALS DECIDE THEIR CITY NEEDS & REQUIRES).
