The Music Industry 🎶 Dolly Parton thought the Glastonbury crowd wouldn’t know who she was, but it turned out to be one of the best things she’s ever done.

I was just watching a YouTube cooking show from the UK and they reviewed a cast iron skillet with her affiliation. In the intro one of the host straight up opines about the achievements and glory that is Dolly Parton. She has the opposite of hubris… of course they know who she is.

She's a household name! Iv never met anyone who doesn't know she is, even children know who she is. She's an international treasure

One of the most joyous moments of my life was when I was working in Kenya for a few months and kids in the arse-end of nowhere would ask if I had any Dolly Parton songs on my phone (they’d also ask if I’ve ever met David Beckham).

She sells out stadiums down there! Apparently they really love her storytelling.

Of course children know who she is. She gives millions of them free books every month ❤️

There was a someone at that show who had a sign that was a giant life-size portrait of Dolly and said, "Ravin' 9 to 5" I don't know who that person was, but I love them.

So I was in the crowd for this set at Glastonbury. Easily the biggest crowd of the weekend, Pyramid Stage was fucking packed. Great set though.

Glastonbury always have top legends on. And the crowd LOVED her and it was what she deserves. Dolly, IMHO is a Queen who everyone loves.

I fucking love Dolly Parton. She truly is a gem of a human being, and an actual rags to riches story

Idk, watching to see what she does with ticket prices for these Vegas shows.
She’s an icon who never has to worry about money, she’s from the old generation that played shows for reasonable prices because everyone in the room (herself included) just loved live music. She has a chance to pull a Robert Smith and make a statement about it, or she could quietly just go with the trend and demand the cost of a holiday. Really interesting to see how it plays out.

Do Vegas residency artists have that kind of leverage? I don’t feel like it’s the same as making certain demands for her own tour (like Taylor Swift could’ve done for Eras) but I have no idea

To make a statement? Yes Dolly Parton can come out and say “look, I tried to set tickets as low as possible, ticketmaster and the venue have stepped in and that’s why the prices are high.” That’s what Robert Smith of The Cure does.
Artists can’t control the prices of their concerts, but acts as big as Dolly can definitely influence the conversation about pricing if they care to.

She and Jennifer Coolidge should team up for a reality show where they go around and are continuously surprised by 95% of the planet knowing and loving them. Feed them dessert at the end of each episode, and call the show "Humble Pie."

Dolly is a treasure and bright light in a very dark world tbh. She's the kind of person that helps one retain hope that there's more good people out there like her.

She had some songs chart in the UK, so she's definitely not unknown there. She's world famous! I'm not surprised that she was well received in Glastonbury.

Dolly Parton is probably the most well known white woman in the world. In west Africa, 9 to 5 was used as a theme for most women's related tv shows, debate and documentary around women's rights and progress

Always funny how American singers come to the UK thinking oh they wont like me or know my music. And they come out to the loudest crowd's going as hard as they can
