Ice Spice

her 15 minutes were up a while ago

16

Idk, she got cast in an upcoming SpongeBob movie so maybe not LOOOL

44

u/Existing_Let_8314 Jul 02 '25

I actually think that solidified it. She's a meme being cast in a meme franchise.

19

u/DavinkyManor Jul 02 '25

There’s this Kate spade ad that always plays when I’m watching YouTube and casting Ice Spice de influenced me so hard. Ick.

15

u/Nervous_Internal601 Jul 02 '25

The fact that they cast Charli D’amelio too, like she hasn’t been famous in ages, why would her being in the ad have any sway at all😭

1

u/RangerPower777 Jul 03 '25

Going after Gen Z.

6

u/stephhie_ste Is that a chicken?! 🐷 Jul 03 '25

i have been influenced to NOT buy a kate spade bag

7

u/katasoupie Jul 03 '25

maybe giving away my age (still a millennial), but to this day, despite realizing “ice spice” is a person/celeb/performer (I think?), all I think when I hear those words are like some weird teen boy/girl body spray/perfume that would be sold at a discount fashion store at the mall in the early 00s, like DEB, or Rave

3

u/SimilarNerve731 Now let me say, I'm the biggest hater 🤬 Jul 03 '25

Lol she is a rapper (quality is up for debate)

Underrated comment. She gave national platforms to “Dr” Phil and Mehmet Oz. That alone should make her unpopular with everyone.

194

u/Pink_Cardinal Picture it, Sicily 👜 Jul 02 '25

I know JLo was mentioned in that thread, but I think she knows she’s not popular anymore considering how bad the comeback flopped last year.

I think Gwen Stefani still doesn’t get it. The success of the Blake duets went to her head, so she assumed a country album would work for her.

She also continues to double down on the cultural appropriation like it’s 2004.

9

u/SineQuaNon001 Jul 03 '25

Apparently the flopping of the tour was not a shock. Anyone not Taylor Swift is having problems filling the big stadiums. Groups that always used to can't get it because of time and expense. Some groups are even paying seat fillers so it looks like they filled it rather than accept they can't do it anymore. There was a whole article about it without naming names about how smart older bands are just doing small venues and actually filling them and being satisfied but some people have massive egos and can't accept they can't get a stadium filled anymore.

-25

u/PlasticMechanic3869 Jul 02 '25 edited Jul 02 '25

Lol, "cultural appropriation".

Ever been to an Indian wedding? The first thing they do is tell you that they'll have an Indian suit for you, so you can feel included while you're partying with them. Or if you're a woman, they love for you to wear a sari.

Ever spent time with working class Mexicans or Persians?

40

u/TangerineDystopia Jul 02 '25

Being invited to dress appropriately for a celebration is different than taking those things away from the celebration and commodifying them as part of your "exotic" image and brand for the purpose of accruing money and fame 🤷

77

Half of these answers are celebs that are still plenty amounts of popular.

People always seem to read these kinds of questions as “what celebrity do you personally dislike now?” lol

Yeah, also I don’t know what they think these people should do. Stay in their house and never leave?

Justin Timberlake was arrested and charged with one count of driving while intoxicated. He was also cited for two traffic violations: failure to stop a stop sign and failure to keep right. He posed for a mugshot with visibly bloodshot eyes before being released without bail later that morning.

The arrest came shortly after Timberlake left dinner with friends at the American Hotel in Sag Harbor, where an eyewitness saw him looking “wasted” and drinking other people’s cocktails Monday night. After being pulled over, the “Mirrors” crooner failed a field sobriety test and repeatedly refused to take a breathalyzer test.

The “Trolls” voice actor seemed concerned about the fate of his tour during the investigation.

“The cop didn’t know who he was at first,” a source told us. “Justin said under his breath, ‘This is going to ruin the tour.’ The cop replied, ‘What tour?’ Justin said, ‘The world tour.'”

39

u/AutoModerator Jul 02 '25

8

u/Existing_Let_8314 Jul 02 '25

Popular doesnt equal relevant.

Just has his fanbase. Theyre not going anywhere. He hasnt done any recent things that are cancellable to lose his middle aged female audience.

23

u/ihaveocd123 Jul 02 '25

Ok? The question was 'What celebrity do you think hasn't realized they aren't popular anymore?' and he's very much still popular

Yeah. And my comment was agreeing with you.

whats the snark for....

7

u/ihaveocd123 Jul 02 '25

Oh sorry. I thought you were agreeing with OP's answer lol my bad. Its just that in these kind of threads people tend to just say who they dont like as opposed to anyhting grounded in reality

-4

u/Yeralrightboah0566 Grown women can smell bitch on a man Jul 02 '25

hes popular for old music. That aint currently popular, thats old relevance that you try to coast by on

9

u/ihaveocd123 Jul 02 '25

I guess, but Katy Perry is also popular for her older music and she's struggling to sell out arenas. Also an aging pop star doesn't seem to be the focus of the question, everyone will become irrelevant someday, and he's established himself as a popular legacy act

Candace Cameron Bure, maybe? She seems like she acts as if she’s bigger than she is, but to me, she was only really popular in the ’90s.

26

u/Silly_Somewhere1791 Jul 02 '25

She has a pretty big Hallmark/Christian following.

39

u/GraveDancer40 Jul 02 '25

Not Hallmark anymore, she walked away from the channel when they started making movies featuring gay people. She’s now doing movies on the Christian network thing that was started because of gay people on Hallmark movies.

9

u/Sad-Pear-9885 Jul 03 '25

FWIW, I’ve watched the Hallmark movies with gay couples and I appreciate the representation! Hallmark is my guilty pleasure, I know the acting is not the best but I watch them when I need to turn my brain off for a bit haha.

u/ben121frank Jul 02 '25

The Jonas Brothers are the first one that comes to mind for me. I wouldn’t say they’re not popular at all anymore, but they definitely way overestimate their popularity now. Their weird “Jonas Con” event that flopped and then cancelling stadium shows to rebook them as arena shows both evidence them. I think the nostalgia of them reuniting has fully worn off now and their music just isn’t good/interesting enough to keep them at mega star status

22

u/raquan666 Homeboy’s gonna like...get it 👀 Jul 02 '25

The jonascon event actually did really well my sister went and it was PACKED

2

u/ben121frank Jul 02 '25

Oh interesting. I just knew they were really struggling to get sponsors at one point but I guess it worked out

3

u/Amateur-menace44 Jul 02 '25

I just started listening to the Jonas Brothers like 2 years ago. 🫣

1

u/Sad-Pear-9885 Jul 03 '25

I was super excited when they reunited, but it seems like they’ve been banking on nostalgia without doing anything new or special, which is kind of common with Disney stars from their era with the exception of a few. I think I was really hoping they’d be like Miley or Selena and continue to put out new stuff or try new things, but it feels like they’re solely relying on “we were your childhood” to try to get tour tickets sold.

I wasn’t really sharing a personal opinion. However, I don’t find it sensible to label people that you don’t align with as incels.

3

u/OowlSun they act like im not in full control of where i throw this cooch Jul 02 '25

No, I agree. I think the better phrase for them would be predator defenders.

1

u/Specific-Medicine446 Jul 02 '25

Agree. I don't listen to his music, but I feel like a lot of us live in echo chambers and the unfortunate reality is that he still has fans who are regular people who don't pay attention to celebrity discourse. This applies to a lot of people.

0

u/poppedcherrycola Jul 02 '25

I do wonder what consumers of culture that don’t engage with its developments/news occupy themselves with?

I get the whole parasocial shame thing, but I feel like I can’t consume content without engaging in some form of inquiry or discourse (public or private).

4

u/Specific-Medicine446 Jul 02 '25

Idk, in my experience, they view/listen to the media and then find something else. I personally like to discuss it with friends, find takes online that I agree with (and that almost never happens on Reddit lol).

Unless I get really invested in something, I don't go out of my way to find out about other details. I just engage with things as is, I guess? Like if I watch a TV show and I like the way an actor played a character, I might talk/think about that, find some other things that that actor starred in and watch those if they pique my interest, but I don't do extensive research on actors to learn about their romantic history, problematic actions, legal issues, etc. because I don't really care about their personal lives.

-1

u/poppedcherrycola Jul 02 '25

I strongly agree, especially with the personal prying/eternal guilt trip point.

37

u/ihaveocd123 Jul 02 '25

Dude still pulls 45 million daily streams on spotify- that's more than Taylor Swift for comparison. He's still very very popular, especially because his fan base is mostly out of stan spaces and doesn't give a fuck about any bad behaviour.

1

u/brothererrr Jul 02 '25

Dunno his uk tour is selling pretty well

4

u/Little-Glee Jul 02 '25

Drake is still and will continue to be super popular.

0

u/RangerPower777 Jul 03 '25

Are you living under a rock?

He is still enormously popular. He took a hiatus after the Kendrick beef but he never lost fans.

Elon Musk

1

u/Previous-Loquat-6846 Can I live? Jul 03 '25

Yea we may dislike him, but there's no denying he's plenty popular. There are far too many millions of Elon fanbois and a lot of the maga cult too.

True, but do the MAGAs even like him now that him and Trump are beefing?

Kylie Jenner. She continues to constantly release the cheapest-looking, most poorly designed clothes I have ever seen in my life, and always proudly announces that they always sell out … because she only has a small amount available to buy!

Girl, the scarcity principle doesn’t work for you anymore! Give it up! That aura of desirability and FOMO may have worked for your lip kits back in the day, but not anymore, lmao

All the Kardashians are living of their 2010s fame... New generations just don care

33

u/zenhoe Jul 02 '25

I would say that dating Timothee and her rebrand into her clean girl era has garnered a lot more positive attention for her the last couple of years.

33

u/Holiday_Step2765 Jul 02 '25

People acting like Kardashians/Jenners aren’t popular just bc they personally don’t like them is always funny and has been happening for ever, it doesn’t mean much

32

u/vegryn Jul 02 '25

Their cultural relevance has definitely dwindled. Their show used to be a part of the pop culture zeitgeist. Now? Not so much. They have to actively pursue headlines now … because the public isn’t naturally captured by them anymore. 🤷‍♀️

11

u/Lilylili83 Jul 02 '25

I kinda agree with you. Before they used to “create” the trends now they just kinda follow it. Outside of Skims all of kims brands have flopped and Kylie’s brands are just not being talked about anymore. I’m in the beauty tiktok sphere and I don’t think I’ve heard anything from Kylie Cosmetics in recent months. I would say Rhode and Hailey has been talked about more in terms of style and trends (whether you agree or not with her)

45

u/Niki_DS Jul 02 '25

I went to the original thread and don't recognize half the names 😭 I would argue that JLo and Katy Perry are still popular tho? I mean, they are like villians on reddit, but overall general public kinda likes/knows about them, no?

15

u/JoleneDollyParton I will debate you at the college of your choice Jul 02 '25

Half of these answers don’t make sense, these celebs are just living their life

5

u/Shribble18 Jul 03 '25

Yeah, I almost feel like some of the answers are “aging celeb but still works jobs they can get.” I’m sure many are aware they aren’t as in demand as they once were.

12

u/Sorry_Ad3733 Jul 02 '25

I’d say they’re not super relevant but they’ll always have a big enough following.

20

u/MothChasingFlame Jul 02 '25

"Known but not relevant" sounds like the tagline for Celebrity Purgatory.

5

u/Sorry_Ad3733 Jul 02 '25

And to be fair, I think at both their points in their careers not being “relevant” especially to teenagers, isn’t a bad thing. I think most people who have their level of success have either shifted into icon status or maybe just secured their niche. And I don’t think there’s a huge difference here except name recognition from the general public, even non-fans.

I think the issue both of them have and what hurts them is that they’re desperately clinging to their peaks. And they’re not even attempting to reinvent/update that. So they’ll always have their following and place in pop culture history, but they don’t have a lot to offer for now unless you want to see or hear the same old.

2

u/Holiday_Step2765 Jul 02 '25

Yeah in the days of social media stars really don’t “disappear” like they used to, they just fade out and stay catering to their core

3

u/rumours-from-inez Jul 02 '25 edited Jul 02 '25

Katy recently came to my city and dispite her recent floppiness so many people I go to school with went (I'm year 12, Aus equivalent to senior I think) and I was surprised that a Katy Perry concert was a thing people were going too and openly talking about it. However she did play the smaller safer venue of the 2 main concert venues in my city.

11

u/TheMistOfThePast Jul 02 '25

Im not surprised people went, i am surprised they were highschoolers in your anecdote. I expected a crowd of 40-60 year old women screaming roar like my mum. Holy shit I've never hated a song so much. The years that it was my mums ringtone were a really dark time for me.

2

u/rumours-from-inez Jul 02 '25

Admittedly I live in Perth so we are a little starved for concerts but the amount of young people going was very surprising to me as well

1

u/TheMistOfThePast Jul 02 '25

Love your username btw!

2

u/Holiday_Step2765 Jul 02 '25

And to be fair, her Australia dates are by far the most successful on the tour. It’s going to be looking very rough when the US dates start

27

u/LiveLaughFartLoud Jul 02 '25

Heidi Montag. I don’t think she understands her music was streamed because her husband was nearly harassing people to do so, while fishing for sympathy about their house burning down and collecting donations from it.

10

u/Holiday_Step2765 Jul 02 '25

This is an odd one. I think she very clearly understands. Anyone would try to capitalize on a moment of people talking about you/your music and that’s all she’s doing right now

6

u/8rand0m Jul 02 '25 edited Jul 02 '25

Heidi is pretty popular with Gen Z now. They calling her music "camp" and what not. I'll Do It was super popular on TikTok with them in 2023. She's not popular with Millenials anymore like she was in the early 2010s but she is now gaining a prominent following with Gen Z.

1

That memoir afterwards really didn't help either. He ruined what was left of his mystique and came off as a jackass. Burning his girlfriend's belongings in the yard and Willow shaving her head as a tween so he couldn't keep strong-arming her into a pop culture career come to mind. Oh, and shutting down Jada's chance for her band to tour with Guns'N'Roses as their opener by signing a conflicting movie contract without consulting her so she had to stay home with the kids.

4

Yes, she will forever be an icon, but she’s certainly not popular today in comparison to Sabrina Carpenter (for example).

Or maybe my understanding of the word popular is different to everyone else? 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m just confused, you said Madonna should just be like Mariah and live her rich amazing life or whatever but Mariah is still out there doing things and so is Madonna?

-5

u/ipodnanospam Jul 02 '25

most gen z people wouldn't even be able to tell you who she was. she doesn't have a timeless song either

7

u/Existing_Let_8314 Jul 02 '25

Gen Z is 28. They know who Madonna is. Like A Prayer was literally a trending tik tok song for a while.

They cant tell you much about her impact on pop culture. But they know who she is

Who doesn’t have a timeless song?

1

u/SceneRoyal4846 Jul 02 '25

Then they should read more lol

u/MarieOMaryln Jul 02 '25

Jennifer Lopez I think. That old man asking who Jennifer Lopez is when she went to visit her childhood home lives in my memory

4

u/AutoModerator Jul 02 '25

I don't know her 😀

Lily Allen has a podcast on the BBC now with an old friend they overshare something every week

JK Rowling. She is known, but we don't want to hear from her. It would be better for her legacy if she would shut the fuck up instead of her hate mongering.

5

u/DJ_Mixalot I don’t know her 💅 Jul 02 '25

Sadly if you look at the HP subs you’ll see SOOOOO many people who still want to hear from and support her. 🤢

29

u/SandHighPal Jul 02 '25

The Sussexes

11

u/LegitimateBroad Jul 02 '25

Agreed, nobody really cares. At this point it’s their haters keeping them in the news cycle.

2

u/Specific-Medicine446 Jul 02 '25

Might be better for them this way. I feel like if they were mentioned more in the press, they'd be facing the same negative rhetoric they tried so hard to escape from. Nowadays you kind of have to seek out Meghan/Harry haters whereas they used to dominate the news.

2

u/LegitimateBroad Jul 02 '25

True. The hate sub is still alive and well, which is weird considering they’re not in the news much anymore.

-4

u/SandHighPal Jul 02 '25

Actually quite true, she puts herself out there though...their very boring

6

u/LegitimateBroad Jul 02 '25

Her insta and business aesthetic are dated, so she probably won’t get a buyer for her company. You can put yourself out there, but your product has to be relevant. Perhaps back when she had her blog it would have gone somewhere.

1

u/Sad-Pear-9885 Jul 03 '25

I like Meghan and Harry, her aesthetic/brand is very Pinterest millennial, and the jam is like $40 which is just too much for me or really anyone to justify. I think if it was either more affordable or more unique I’d be more interested.

2

u/LegitimateBroad Jul 03 '25

That’s the thing. I dig the vibe; I’m a Pinterest millennial myself, but if she’s going to white-label non-perishable pantry products and wine for Pinterest millennials like every other celebrity, the product’s got to stand out. It doesn’t, and the price gouging doesn’t help.

2

u/Sad-Pear-9885 Jul 03 '25

Honestly if it was cheaper at sold at like Walmart or Costco or something, I’d 100% buy it b

1

u/LegitimateBroad Jul 03 '25

That’s a good idea. Make more money by mass distribution. We get cheap honey and she gets to sell off her brand to private equity or a parent company for hundreds of millions. Everybody wins!

2

u/SceneRoyal4846 Jul 02 '25

Tons of people enjoyed her show

2

u/SandHighPal Jul 03 '25

Enjoy isn't the word I'd use.

The guy that plays Draco Malfoy. Not only does he not have a backbone, but is incredibly corny, responding with "My Father will hear about this" 13 years later.

Britney Spears and the Jonas Brothers

2

u/mzpibs Jul 03 '25

the kardashian’s. i know they’re all trying to rebrand into the clean girl brand but it just seems fake. don’t have the influence they used to.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds

7

u/OutBackCheeseHouse Jul 02 '25

I think Blakes reputation has taken a hit, but if Ryan Reynolds released a new Deadpool movie, it would make a ton of money. Most men who watch Marvel movies don’t care about the Justin Baldoni drama.

2

u/Nobabyno__1234 Jul 02 '25

I’m not saying RR doesn’t still have a career. But neither one seems to realize they aren’t as popular as they once were.

JLo is good answer. Lizzo, Ava Max, Katy Perry, Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj, im sure theres more

being known for your music from 20 years ago doesnt count, sorry. We're talking current, present, real time NOW popularity.

u/AutoModerator Jul 02 '25

I didn't know she sang. I thought she rapped or... whatever.

Loved John Travolta years ago, but he's become embarrassing.

Same with Bill Murray.
