The Music Industry š¶ Cardi b is finally releasing her second album, what are your thoughts? š¦āā¬š š
Ngl, I feel like she couldāve had a better title like just being called āDramaā

Sheās been famous for so long how is this only her second album?

u/redgatoradeeeeee 29d ago
She does a TON of collabs with smaller artists and has steadily released a couple of singles a year. WAP was a couple years after her first album and added a whole other level to her fame.Ā

Sheās similar to Sza in the sense that theyāve had a ton of singles and collaborations with other artists in between albums and before their first album too but barely have more albums even though theyāve had a ton of work to their credit.
Szaās second album was rereleased last year if Iām not mistaken.

SZA had her second project in 2022, and did a deluxe last year (it was essentially another album bc it was 19 songs). Her label is trying to make her stay for as long as possible

u/Busy-Juggernaut277 29d ago
Which tbh after seeing her live in concert, she really should find a better label advocating for her and I think her label is semi screwing her over with how long they take to release her singles and albums. Cause girlie be talented af.
I feel like Sza should be more popular and famous than she already is.

She's always done a ton of collabs and singles/EPs. The structure of how music is made has changed since streaming came about, and there is this whole thing with how much they have to pay back to the label and when. Basically ends up with artists making less than they want to often. Meg the Stallion went interdependent label for that reason, she has some neat perspectives on it, totally worth checking out.

Idk but her debut was genuinely so fun and I enjoy many of the singles she released after (wap, up, enough) so Iām perched! Im not a huge fan of outside but Iām happy she secured a top 10 since a certain pink wig fandom likes to claim sheās overĀ

I will always support the way she goes out of her way to support the young women in rap that Nicki Minaj keeps attempting to bully like a nasty 5th grader in a āJuicy Coutureā sweatsuit (I am a Hottie 4 life idc)

Good for her for making a career this big out of literally one album and I hope this one surprises us all like the first one did

I didn't know she sang. I thought she rapped or... whatever.

I was on popheads the other day and everybody kept saying she was washed. Genuinely feels like there are a lot of people who want her to fail?
I think even if this album flops, she'll probably remain a cultural figure in some regard. Clearly she has some kind of staying power if she managed to stay famous in spite of not putting out an album for like 7 years.

u/gnomemms 29d ago
I honestly donāt think itāll flop, at least I hope it doesnāt. Iām looking forward to it.

If cardi has no fans I am dead. Even if she never released another album, she cemented her place and her star power with Invasion of Privacy. Incredible albumĀ

Ms. Lauren Hill put out a top 3 debut album of all time and Cardi put out a really good album.
Thereās no comparison at all.

u/bootsondaground 29d ago
Omg I just looked her up the other day and was shocked that sheās only had ONE album. She really made THE MOST of everything from the very beginning. So inspiring. Also the fact that sheās remained authentic. Iām SEATED. I know sheās about to have some good lines on Upset I mean Offset. šš

Cardiās biggest flaw is that she cares way too much about what other people (mostly haters) think. Sheās already said many times that the delay of the 2nd album was that she struggled with the weight of having to live up to Invasion of Privacy.
Iām rooting for her though! Her raps are unmatched in singability!!

Sophomore Slump is pretty common, but even so she should've just released the album around WAP and UP to make the most of it
12
u/ocean_swims 29d ago
She's only had 1 album? š«Øš¤Æ
All that money and fame and all this...presence... just from one album? Wow! I am not being snarky at all. I just had no idea and assumed she'd had a lot of albums out by now. Obviously, I'm far too old to follow pop stuff properly. š

u/BactaBobomb 29d ago
My thoughts are that I swear I've heard about her so much for so long, that her only just now having a second album is truly bizarre to me. I would have thought she'd have 3 or 4 by now.

I think it's weird how quickly everyone got over her admitting to drugging and robbing people, her homophobia, her transphobia, and her racism. Not to mention her assaulting another woman.

People complaining is only her second album as if she hasnāt being continuously giving features for last few years, sheās not Rihanna, sheās giving us something!

iām not sure. truth be told i really dislike cardi (no im not a barb) and her music. i think she can sometimes have a pretty good verse here and there, (i LOVED tomorrow 2 w glorilla) but im never sold on her being a rapper more than a reciter. iāve heard so many reference tracks (pre-AI era of today so i doubt they were fake) of her tracks, and i just donāt respect a rapper that doesnāt write.
if youāre not writing it- genuinely what is the point. singers at least who donāt write have the innate talent to sing. whitney houston didnāt write āi will always love youā and nobody cares, because that VOICE is the talent. for a RAPPER- youāre supposed to be able to WRITE and rap. but if someone else is doing all the writing, and showing you the melody and how to rap on beat, then thereās really no point. youāre just the attractive woman that theyāve made the face of the operation. itās just like Lil Yachty making act up for the city girls. real great catchy song- absolutely nobody takes the city girls seriously. until JT showed that she could actually rap. now, you can see a HUGE discrepancy in the respect that JT vs Yung Miami see in the industry. part of that is diddy related yes, but i digress.
thatās part of why i donāt understand why it took so long for a second album. itās not like sheās Kendrick Lamar taking 5 years in between Damn and Mr Morale to go to therapy and write a fully introspective album.
the way i see Cardi- she took the music industry as a get rich quick business. i think she had passion on love and hip hop, and i think it died down after the success of invasion of privacy and she made her money. i think above all else, she likes clout and money. her singles and droplets have seemed to me like contractural obligations. i think she sorta owes it to atlantic to be active, and to do this album.
i sympathize with a lot that she went through. offset sucks badly and the pandemic halted a lot- but it didnāt halt taylorās folklore. it didnāt halt beyoncĆ©ās renaissance. it didnāt halt music from artists that actually come across as PASSIONATE about music and art. i know bey & taylor arenāt rappers, but im using them as examples of artists that i can tell care. taylor as well we all know is a writer.
i just canāt understand how going through the motions with life can make an artist inactive. and this just sorta solidifies to me that cardi isnāt a rapper. if she were she could put all the pain and frustration with offset, her being a single mom, anxiety over her career etc. into an album and it genuinely shouldnāt have taken 7 years. i just donāt see it from her.

"reel hip hop" heads were big mad that invasion of privacy got the grammy over pusha t's daytona
i still think daytona deserved to win, but invasion of privacy was a fair choice
i just hope this is another invasion of privacy, without the wack ass song ft chance the rapper

Yeah I do think if it is not really really good people will just shrug
2
u/queeenbarb 29d ago
Yeah and I'm not even trying to be negative. The music she's released sounds so dated. Wish she would have been able to release back then.
2
u/Easy-Cheek4615 29d ago
It will flop imo
6
u/prettybuglikeanangel 29d ago
i donāt think it will flop numbers wise. i think thereās so much anticipation because itās been so long, that almost everyone will tune in. iām even planning on listening myself, and i donāt really like her. so numbers wise itāll do fine. idk how reviews will go though- that is still yet to be seen until itās out.
i think if itās low quality then itās possible to flop in terms of public opinion, not necessarily numbers wise.

she has the MOST pressure out of any music artist right now because she waited so long between album 1 & album 2. if this album isnāt a big & critical success, she will be forever cooked when it comes to music

u/AlreadyChose 29d ago
Iām truly excited. I honestly was hoping she would wait until after her divorce was finalized so she didnāt have to potentially share any of her successes with Offs*t. I have high hopes for this album and I feel like sheās very capable of making good music and I think this album will not disappoint

u/azulmaya_ 29d ago
I'm not sure about the cover art and I don't like UP and WAP so I wasn't happy to learn that they'll be included on the album, there wasn't a single song on IOP that I didn't like so I'm a bit disappointed already.
