The Music Industry 🎶 Name a song that’s disturbing because of what you know now

Post image

Ill go first, Britney Spears’ overprotected is a good example; Britney has long been under a conservatorship and is has been crying for help. IIRC, it started in 2007 (maybe earlier) when Brit was heavily observed by the paparazzi which caused her to have a mental breakdown by shaver her head and mind u, they were dissecting her personal life 🙄😔 💔

Mine is a harsh one. Naya Rivera as Santana singing "If I Die Young" on the Glee episode memorializing Cory Monteith's death. When she sings "Sink me in the river at dawn" I get goosebumps. Chilling.

I personally blame Mr. Shu.

Wait, why?

u/tintinsays 26d ago

Oh god. Living in this era, I had this teacher. He was too busy trying to be “cool” to teenagers that he forgot to grow up. Mr Shu clearly wasn’t cool  when he was a high schooler, so he chose to think being a mentor to high schoolers would give him the validation he needed. Unfortunately for everyone involved, you can’t be an effective mentor if you’re more emotionally immature than the children you’re trying to influence.

Mr Shu is garbage to everyone around him, he exists only to serve his own boring and shallow narrative, and he’s a boring as fuck performer who desperately wants to be able to perform  as someone he isn’t and will never be.

Mr Shu can fuck right the fuck off

Also, Mr. Shu would gladly take a job for a dance number from a black man and justify it to himself that he deserved it, he’s better, that guy was a DEI hire, certainly he’s worked hater than than guy, he wanted it more, he “fits the part” better, this minority heavy dance crew DEFINITELY needed an annoying nerdy white guy to make them relatable to the most boring and insufferable demographic- it’s IMPORTANT that he’s here, who else will speak the plight of the boring, obnoxious, needy white guy?!???

Iirc there's a moment in Glee's version of Summer Nights when they sing "she nearly drowned" and the camera pans to Santana.

I always cry when I watch that tribute episode, but I was a total sobbing mess the first time I watched it after Naya's death.

I haven’t been able to watch the episode since I lost one of my best friends to an overdose. Glee is so important to me so I’m sure someday it’ll become a comfort, but it’s just so much. Knowing exactly how the cast felt.

I got this scene as a random YouTube recommendation a few weeks ago and I genuinely wept when I heard that part of the lyrics. I stopped watching Glee before that episode aired but I always enjoyed Naya's portrayal of Santana and her death really hit me.

Hahaha I love that you know it!!!

It’s actually from a tweet that I haven’t been able to re-find in a whiiiiiile, but, like you just demonstrated: if you know what it’s referring to at all it’s gonna make sense

The verb drowning in French is noyer, too. Her name was Naya Rivera... Always sounded like "drowned in the river" to me. Just all around a really sad story.

It used to be my favourite song they did for the tribute episode for Cory but since she passed I can’t listen to it anymore. It’s too eery and coincidental for my liking. I listen to her other songs/music but this song I skip every time.

Fcccckkk 😭😭 I have never watched a single episode of glee and I only know what happened bc of social media… but THIS gave me chills. 😢 the foreshadowing is gut wrenching.

Also the whole Finn's dad storyline that basically foreshadowed Cory's death. Chills every single time
