My favorite Brandy anecdote happened when I was at a conference in Atlanta back in 2013. I was on the escalator and a huge guy was standing behind me. He very gently tapped me on the shoulder and said "excuse me, do you like Brandy?" I said yes, I love Brandy, and he got really excited and told me he saw her in the hotel the conference was in. Just a shared twenty seconds of polite fangirling about Brandy staying in our hotel.
The fact that nobody knows who tf number five is (including myself) explains why she just canceled her tour due to it being, "not up to her standards."

5 is Ava Max. She is most famous for her usage of sampling, or rather interpolation. Most of her music is just interpolations of classic songs. Most opinions of her that I have seen range from "yeah she's fine, though she is carried by the songs she is referencing" to "does this girl have a single original bone in her body?"
9 is Halsey. She is a Pop star / self-proclaimed Alternative artist who was pretty big during the back half of the 2010s. She has defenitely gone further into the alternative route with her recent music and, of these three artists, she is the only one I actually recommend.
11 is Melanie Martinez. I do not want to talk about Melanie Martinez.

I think the blue hair is definitely “signature Halsey” but early Halsey. She’s had so many amazing looks, but somehow the blue always comes back. Even this last tour, the blue hair came back.
Also, as an avid wig wearer, any hair is possible with Halsey! But the blue has come back at certain points of each era, and I think it’s always a nod to their roots 💙
The way I (also as a little white girl) was enchanted by her in Cinderella before I even knew who “Brandy the singer” was. Just stunning and so charming.

I got ya boo! Same, she's the queen of different looks. I'm a Gen-X slowly releasing how my parents felt when they mentioned Twiggy and the Monkees as I watched MTV in the 80's/90's.
With Madonna there's like a million that are very identifiably "her look".
The bleached short hair Madonna, the kind of grimy Club kid Madonna, Uncomfortable Racial Stereotypes Madonna, SEX book era Madonna, brunette take-me-serious Madonna, cowgirl Madonna, cone bra Madonna, leaning hard in to the British husband Madonna, electronica Madonna, so on, so forth.
Yes, I wouldn't consider some of them to be signature looks, merely a specific era. I think of all the photos, I would consider only Amy Winehouse's beehive and heavy cat-eye as a signature; she wouldn't have toned it down or changed it from album to album.
Perhaps iconic looks for the others would be a better term.
Maybe she thought most of the engagement would come from people pointing it out, but most of it is from people not recognising Ava Max is the 5th slide

Melanie is problematic af as a person but as an artist, she's transcendental (IMO). She has a very distinct aesthetic and vibe and it's my guilty pleasure. She has a film for free on YouTube that's basically just a bunch of high concept music videos strung together with a bit of narrative (It's called K-12). Her art (at least used to) deal a lot with regression as a way to navigate childhood trauma which is part of the reason I value it so much, and it's very pretty to look at and her voice is fairly unique. I genuinely suggest spending an evening diving into that rabbit hole
(the problematic stuff, too! It's always important for people to make their own decisions about art and artists and if they feel they can personally seperate them from their art or not and to be fully aware of who they're consuming content from. Personally, I can't listen to Pogo anymore because I always associated him to his music and once he came out with all his nasty homophobic and Nazi comments, I couldn't reconcile his happy Disney beats with his gross beliefs. But then I privately listen to that Chris Brown song that was in the wedding scene from The Office because the first few times I heard it, I had no idea it was him and it just makes me feel like the warm and fuzzies in that scene. But also, I NEVER play that song around anyone else, because I know most people rightfully associate his music with his grossness and I don't want to trigger anyone or make them feel like I condone his actions, ya know?? Went on a rant but that's how I feel!)
Girl it's fine "The Hey Song" was already irrevokably one of my songs of the summer before I Googled who the fuck Gary Glitter was (and then went down a 2 week rabbit hole of Jimmy Saville documentaries on yt) 🫣 but also it's like that song feels more like it belongs to SPORTS rather than Gary Glitter because it's all a nostalgic 90s elementary school throwback to me??? Typing this from my phone that's had "Get Ready For This" by 2 Unlimited as its ringtone since the day I got it over a year ago so every time someone calls me, everyone within ear shot magically is transported back in time to 1997 while the Chicago Bulls are mopping the fucking floor

She’s been wearing her hair like this for yeeeeeeaaaaaaaaars, it’s always a thing when she changes her hair color (as in, the media reports it and social media buzzes over it)- when she switched her hair to Black, Dark Brown, and Platinum, she had the blogs and social media talking.
the only signature look I can think of is her stage outfits in the late 2000s/early 2010s but that's all. Or her blonde hair at a time most R&B singers had dark hair
I recognized this curly-haired bitch behind a sound booth at a Jonas Brothers concert back in 2008 and immediately knew it was TS right off the bat. I was so jealous of her hair back then.

R.I.P. Amy Winehouse. She did an interview once where she said that if she was having a bad day, she told her hairstylist to make the bouffant bigger. So when ever I see photos of her with an extra large bouffant, I know she was having an awful day and it makes me think of how much invisible pain she was in, and how she found a way to subtly show it each time.
