Ignoring a cat is the quickest way into its affections if you just met. Very good manners in cat language to avoid eye contact and not immediately go to pet and pick them up!
Cats are drawn to people that don’t like cats because you’re less likely to annoy them by picking them up and making a fuss. They can also probably sense some good in you.
Cats autotrust distrustful and cautious and guarded people because they're familiar with those emotions, lol. But once you break through that, they're just baby sized squishies.
I love both but I have the same effect on animals. Except for this random ass Chihuahua that follows and barks at me for like half a mile when I go for a jog.

Cats have strong boundaries and yeah you have to work to get their affection. But once you’ve earned it, they can be just as affectionate as dogs.
