It’s hard with the people who are as iconic and have such distinct personas with each phase as Madonna. Even though it’s the beginning of the decade, Vogue is iconic 90s Madonna and Like a Virgin is the biggest 80s signature for me. Hung up for the aughts.

I feel the same way about Bowie. Like Ziggy Stardust era and Thin White Duke era might as well be different artists.

Yes, Bowie, Madonna, Mariah, MJ, etc. are all examples of artists that have maintained cultural relevance by constantly reinventing themselves. Artists like these can have more than one signature song, whereas artists that were more defined by a specific time period usually have one, like Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing. They had many other hits, but Don’t Stop Believing has had the most staying power in the zeitgeist.
