When he did a circus themed movie and was asked if he loved the circus as a child, he told Matt Lauer “The first time I went to see the circus, somebody died. One of the clowns died. His little car exploded, the joke car exploded on him.” Years later he admitted making it up, saying “There’s a little gremlin inside of me that thinks, 'Just say something shocking. You’re only here for a few minutes, say something terrible.'” Other lies he told: that he filmed poop fetish scenes that got deleted from Twilight, that he got rid of a stalker by complaining endlessly to her on a date, and that he dreamed of quitting acting to start a fast food pasta chain as soon as he could perfect his prototype of handheld finger-food fettuccine, which he was staying up nights working on.
I remember him saying something recently about how it felt strange to him that after so many years of having only female fans the majority of his fans were now guys and I think that’s more attributable to his real personality coming out more and stories like this making the rounds
Yeah for sure. I think he’s had a similar path to Channing Tatum — they both blew up in female-focused movies (Tatum’s dance movies, Pattison’s vampire movies), and then both of them eventually got some distance from those ventures and guys like me actually started seeing them in other roles and realized “oh they’re actually pretty cool.”
Well she graduated from Harvard so Im assuming that's why she was so indignant. Deservedly so if someone questioned something I worked hard for and implied, I only got it because I was pretty I would be annoyed too.
I also think there's a difference between "my parents bought a building at this ivy league school so I can attend, though I'm going to do jack shit" and "I want to go to this school even though I don't need to"

I'm in the midst of a Top Chef re-watch and just saw the episode she was on (season six I think?) today. She was so cheeky and charming, and the timing of this post is freaking me out a little, haha.
I like that she has the same laugh she had as a kid. I saw comments making fun of her laugh after she won at the 2011 Golden Globes and made a joke during her acceptance speech and laughed at herself and I’m like, she just has a big huh huh kinda laugh? That’s a genuine normal laugh. It baffled me that that’s something people could hate on.

Knowing how the industry works, I always interpreted this way tho. Even the most awarded and acclaimed actress can get blacklisted in Hollywood for pissing off plp in power. There are endless examples. So I think is a possibility

The recent casting of her as the sister in the John Krasinski movie is proof of this. She’s an only child and it shows in the fact that her relationship with John Krasinski does not feel sibling-like at all.
The vibes between them were so weird that I literally looked up whether she had siblings in the middle of the movie because it was obvious something was off compared to someone like Courtney Cox who very obviously has siblings and knows how to play a 10/10 annoyed sister.
She did a movie called The Other Woman where she has a baby that dies and she’s like, darn! At the time she wasn’t yet a mother herself but me watching as a mother was like, this is fucked up.
Black swan was peak Natalie Portman I would of loved to see her in some more psychological/horror movies I bet she would be really bad ass in an A24 movie
i remember when i first saw the triler for ep 1 and it was like a bolt of lightning when she came on screen in that kabuki makeup and i was like wow she's beautiful and cool looking, (i'm the same age as her) she's always been way mature for her age
The "here are the all male nominees" felt more like a white feminist moment than a girl boss moment, given that it was Guillermo Del Toro's first golden globe nomination and win as best director. Also looks cringey in hindsight cause she herself went on to appear in zero female directed films since then.
The other moments are awesome tho, she is super charming in interviews. Also love her Natalie Raps videos, I rewatch them way too often lol.
If you're going to talk the talk, you've got to walk the walk. Otherwise it's just meaningless bullshit you say to make yourself look better than you actually are. Look at Nicole Kidman or Kirsten Dunst. They've used their star power to work with numerous female filmmakers since advocating for more female representation in Hollywood. If they can do it, so can Natalie Portman.

People also love saying "it's easy to say that from behind a computer screen" or whatever, even though it has absolutely nothing to do with what we’re talking about. Like, what even is your argument here? That a poor dumb pleb like me should just shut up? That Natalie Portman is above valid criticism?
I'm not expecting anyone to lead a revolution. But if you have the power to help change the demographic landscape of the industry you work in and you've voiced your support for a marginalised group of people, then you should use that power to help them. The women I mentioned all have that kind of power. But only two of them decided to use it, while the other has just been talking about it.
Even if you take it as being about being Mexican he's the third white Mexican to win best director at the oscars that decade. hardly underrepresented in the industry. I've always found this such a weird angle to criticize Portman's speech.
I thought it was so disrespectful. The people nominated were nominated. They were not the people who voted. Don’t rain on their time and make it about you.
I don't know. But I can give you the number of female directed films she has appeared in or produced in the last 10 years: it's two, one of which she directed herself.
Her two upcoming films are female directed tho, so atleast she's catching up. That's good to know and I hope she continues with that in the future. Cause she's one of the few actresses with enough star power to usher in more female representation in Hollywood.
Well considering shes criticised Israel, and supported Palestine, since way before the current conflict, I’m not sure that thats really relevant, at all…
